    I bought a 2021 Prius and all I can say is once you get a hybrid you will never go back to pure gasoline engine. It's fascinating what a Prius can do.

      Yes! We drove my wife's 2017 Prius 2 from Colorado to Maine and back and only spent just over $200 for gas for the entire trip!!! She wants a newer one with the bigger screen so wants me to trade in my old beater car and drive her old Prius. (I'm too cheap but nice try!!)

      If you charge it multiple times, you can avoid using the gas. But be carful, because gas engine has to run time to time to avoid problems and corrosion.

    Great review!!! We have the 2017 Prime Advanced, which is the same generation and pretty much identical to the 2020. It is by far the best car we have ever owned and it is so fun to drive. The technology is fun, and I like all the little oddities about it. Personally, I like the fact that it has a manual emergency brake. It has less tendency to malfunction and more reliable in an emergency situation.

      Thank you for taking the time to comment, I’m so glad you are happy with it! It’s definitely full of quirks and has some pretty fun exterior styling. I will also add that the tactile feel of a manual parking brake can’t be beat. I wish you many trouble-free miles!

    Nice video. I’ve had my prime for 6 months now and plug it in whenever I’m at home. Where I live electricity is all geothermal generated. After 5000 km I still haven’t been to the gas station, my running average is 0.7 litres per 100 km which is about 330 mpg. It’s a great efficient run about.

    • @jaybo234

      If you couldn't charge it, would that mean it would only run on the gas motor?

    • @sMeth09
      @sMeth09 4 года назад +1

      @@jaybo234 Hi Jay. Yeah if you did not plug the car in to charge it then it would alternate between battery and gas motor just like any other hybrid does. If you were not able to charge it at home then your probably better off just buying the standard prius which carries around a much smaller and lighter battery and costs less to purchase. Like I say, we don't use our prime for long trips (we use a rav4 for that) so your average day to day running around to the shops, to work, picking up the kids etc you get incredible mileage from the prime if your able to plug it in at home or work. Cheers and have a good one.

    The curved back window “Duck Bill”, serves another purpose. You’ll notice there’s no rear window wiper. The car relies on the air moving over the car to clear the back window in the rain. I have such a car. It works achieving 1. better air flow. 2. Further weight reduction. Another point if I may, the bonnet is aluminium achieving yet further weight savings! On my first fill I achieved 1.53l/100kms driving 824kms on 12.63l of fuel + numerous full charges. I have solar and batteries on the two houses we occupy. So predominantly, the “electric fuel” is free coming from the rooves and storage batteries once you’ve made that investment. Oh What A Feeling!

Toyota has proven the best e-cvt tecnology, saves money, less enviromental damage because of less battery, less roling resistance, better aerodynamic than tesla, cost not that much and eco oriented! I had a rental of this car for 2 days. I agree with you on the pain points. The foot parking brake is so outdated. Also the car is noisy on highway. Also the steering is dangerous on highway. Car won't track straight. It wonder left and right on highway. I had to constantly correct the steering.
    Tire size is 195/65/R15. My old 2003 toyota corolla has this tire size. Come on, Toyota!
    I looked up the specs and the car weight 3400bl, same as Camry. So if you bought this car, I suggest switch to 225 width tires. Also check the alignments, it could be the causes of not tracking straight

    Yes, my Prius Prime XLE have fabulous gas mileage, but the annual insurance cost $400 dollars more than my Honda CRV. You do save in gas but it cost a lot more in insurance. Before buying Prius Prime check the insurance cost at your local area first!, and it does not have a spare tire. I do like both of my vehicles.

    I have a 2019 Prius Prime. Keep in mind that the traction battery (the one that runs the all electric mode) takes up the spare tire well and most of the trunk space. There is no spare. The Prius Prime comes with a tire plug kit. If had it to do over, I believe I would buy the standard Prius. That said, I have over 36,000 miles and averaged over 80 miles per gallon.

    I wish critical information was highlighted vs mixed into silly appearance talk.
    - limited space in the trunk due to lifted floor.
    - you will spend around 60 cents and upwards of 2 hours to recharge equivalent of half gallon of gas.
    Makes one wonder if it is worth the price. And for some it clearly does.

    I have had 2 gen2 Priuses. My first, a 2005, the overall mileage for the 2 years I had it was approx 55mpg with my best tank, 63mpg.
    the second, a 2009 that I got used in 2016 and have till today, avg 45-48 mpg, note: in Israel with 95 octane gas.
    Still love the car AND really appreciate the manual parking brake, especially with its placement that you bemoan.
    Let's just chock that up to "different strokes?"
    Also, to be clear, I like having a rear wiper...makes it safer to see out of, especially in the rain.
    But your opinion please is it really worth the trade-off for the "dippy" window

    • @MichaelDrivesOfficial
      @MichaelDrivesOfficial  2 года назад

      So glad to hear you enjoyed the review. Yes some people still prefer a mechanical brake, and on the floor or between the front seats is a matter of preference. I believe they had to design the rear glass to achieve the desired aerodynamic effect and probably saved a minimal amount of weight in eliminating the rear wiper, and if anything, its unique.

      There is no such thing as pure gas motor for this car. If you don’t charge it then it runs on electric/Gas hybrid motor. In other words if you don’t charge it then it behaves like a regular Prius. Still giving you about 56mpg at least.

      If you actually go off roading or need more space, the RAV4 Prime Limited would be the better bet. The Prime is the best of the RAV4's. Power+efficiency

    Hi Michael, good review. Now, a trick question for you? Prius Prime or Ioniq HPEV? I'm trying to figure out this answer.... Regards!

    • @MichaelDrivesOfficial
      @MichaelDrivesOfficial  4 года назад +2

      Thank you! I do prefer the interior design and functionality of the Ioniq a bit more than the Prius Prime. Luckily both are great options.

    • @domthemom2270
      @domthemom2270 4 года назад

      I thought the ioniq interior was a bit small and the middle console didn't have very much space. Also saw 1 cup holder on the "blue" trim. If you are looking, try and get a 2020 prime with a lot of discounts and rebates, will be almost the same price.

    Question: If the plug in cord is not long enough to each my exterior (on my home) outlet can I use an extension cord? I need about a 30' run.

    It's not 60 cents to charge it up. 8.8 kw. I pay 40 cents per kw do the math. It's cheaper not to plug it in. I have solar and I still don't plug my car in. Gas is cheaper. I get 60 mpg on 1 gallon which costs 3.45 . why pay $3.50 to charge it up and get 25 miles. Off peak plans are available to charge at night but since I have a solar plan it's still 40 cents per kw here in California.
