@@jasonmorgan27rocksett has roughly the same breaking strength as locktite blue but with more heat resistance. I've taken off tons of muzzle devices that were installed with rocksett/hot lock vibratite and never once have I had to use anything other than a reaction rod, muzzle device wrench and a breaker bar. It's incredibly easy and I don't know where the notion of it being impossible to remove comes from. Use the right tools and use your strength. It's not hard even when there is a copious amount of thread locker applied. Just don't let your wrench/crows foot slip off cuz you'll end up hurting yourself. Forward controls actually makes a good muzzle device wrench but you can also just look up whatever size you need and if necessary grind it down to be the right thickness. Also,.don't over torque the shit out of your muzzle device. 25-30ft lbs with thread locker is super easy to remove with the right tools. Tapered nuzzles like those on SIG or Q barrels are going to be harder. People have talked about this with the Spear LT. It isn't because they use rocksett. It's because the taper itself is there to make the muzzle device harder to remove. That's the point of the tapered muzzle.
I didn't realize that it expired either. I checked the bottle that I have about two months ago and the product appeared to be separating with little "snowflake" lookng particles floating around. I will never buy a large bottle Rocksett again unless I absolutely have to.
Rockset has never given me a problem on set screws. They have always held great and broke free with a allen key even with a fresh bottle. With muzzle devices I soak in water for 15 min and it comes right off or if you're in a hurry you can put a 2x4 infront of your muzzle device and smack it real hard with a hammer. The shock can break the rockset.

Not really. Copies of the TDP are public. He already offers the gauges and the info through his class. He also had done several videos showing us how to use the gauges. Trend data isn't always helpful and we do get that through his videos to some extent.
I appreciate this video. I’m an 07/02 FFL/SOT and had recently came across one of @carrytrainer videos called “AR Science” where he was with Criterion getting his rifle rebarrelled. The armorer in the video gave some pretty bad advice IMO and when I commented about it I got a lot of flack back. One of the worse things he said was to use blue locktite on the gas block set screws. You putting out great info like this is extremely helpful, thanks again.
I had solgw rebarrel an upper I shot out. They used and swore by red loctite.. did a shoot where we put about 1500rnds through our guns and at the end of the day one screw was missing and the other backed out with ease. Use rocksett on set screws.
Interesting. Does SOLGW pin their gas blocks? BCM doesn't, but I've also haven't heard of anyone having the gas block set screws come loose from a BCM upper. I wonder if BCM uses Rocksett?
@mysteryman33333 solgw doesn't pin, but they told me to send it back and do so. I just ordered some new screws off brownells and used rocksett. Didn't happen again. No idea what BCM does. I do use their blocks and they're a VERY tight fit, but I use rocksett on the ones I build.
@@SchooloftheAmericanRifle Oof. I recently put together an upper with a barrel that didn't come drilled for a pinned gas block, so I used Rocksett on the set screws because you mentioned in a previous video that you recommend Rocksett. Now I'm glad I used that instead of the red Loctite!
I took their armorers course a couple years ago and remember them saying to use Rocksett, because it was ceramic and wouldnt come loose with heat from the barrel or gas block. Granted, they also said pinned gas blocks were the best, followed by dimpled with set screws. I also remember them mentioning some type of special screw for dimpled gas blocks/barrels that had teeth of some kind to dig into the barrel, preventing the screws from loosening easily. Assuming my memory is accurate 😂
I look forward to the full video on using Rocksett or HotLock. I have a nitrided barrel from Faxon that is not prepped for the gas block to be pinned. Nitriding is so hard, the set screws can't get a bite and it is difficult to drill a dimple into the barrel. I haven't had any functional issues with the gun, but it does make me worry that the gas block with slip in the future (especially at a critical time).

I didn't know that this stuff goes bad after a year. I got a bottle that is definitely over 1 year old. I just used it on a thread protector and it seems solid, so time will tell.
Yeah, I wish had known Rocksett has a relatively short lifespan years ago. Bought the bottle, installed the few muzzle devices I needed to, and put it away. Next time I needed it the bottle had almost completely solidified and was useless. Definitely nice to have an option to purchase a smaller amount, especially with how expensive it is.
Great info as always. I have a few new muzzle devices/suppressor mounts to install and grabbed some Rocksett from my toolbox and it is starting to get white chunks floating around in it. I called Flexbar to check and they said it was starting to go bad and that was the ceramic setting up in the bottle. They said bc it’s primarily still liquid it should be fine but the temp rating isn’t at the 2k mark and will continue to degrade. They have a 1oz bottle now as well and I was about to grab it but I’ve heard Hot-Lock is just as good. Being you’ve used both more than most, curious your thoughts for suppressor use.
Oof, did’t know Rocksett expired, have the same bottle for several years now. Luckily, I have had muzzle devices come loose with red loctite but not expired Rocksett. Will order a new bottle for my next project though (and of course will probably go back and re-install anything put in with expired version.
I’m going to be that guy 😂. According to Silener Shops website, if the rocksett hardens you can put it in a cup of warm water for a few minutes to soften it up. Does this only apply to those small unopen packet of rocksett that come with muzzle devices, or is it all bogus?
Please tell us the removal secrets!!!! I've done water (cold, boiling), tried the hairdryer trick to make vapor etc. And nothing is sure proof. Some manufactures bath their guns in these chemicals, and it makes it such a pain when its time to change parts.
It expites? Crap, and that explains why my sico mount came loose when installed with the supplied rocksett. I had to get a new bottle and i thought why not go big, ill use it later. Ouch thats a $50 hit.
When are you gona show us how to remove rocket from gas block and muzzle device I’m scared to use it if it’s to hard to get off if something goes wrong 😂
