    About Drunk History:
Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation's history. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. Booze helps bring out the truth. It's just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

@@filltee Yeah but he ultimately made the decision to put his life on the line and fight against segregation when he could have just blown the whole thing off. Also we have tons of women who have done amazing shit in history. Its stupid to try to make every inspiring story about women when it isn't always directly about them? Men have also done amazing shit. Isn't that what equality is? I mean I'm not saying women haven't had credit for accomplishments stolen by men, a lot of great women have been erased from history that way. But at the same time I don't get why it's ok to therefore steal credit because someone within the minority that you feel has struggled the most isn't receiving all of the attention.

    • @lucasbell4831

I can safely say I haven't. Public school - as misguided and ignorant and "whitewashed" or whatever else people insist it is - generally laid the foundation for my understanding of history. Then, once I gathered the basic knowledge of historical figures and events, I was left to my own devices to look beyond what I was taught to see if there were differing opinions on things and/or straight-out inaccuracies. I've found plenty of things that have changed my mind, obviously. But I wouldn't ever say things outside of public school taught me more about history - at least, as individual sources.

Are we going to ignore Mendez v Westminster (1947)? This case was used as precedence for the Brown v School board case that ended segregation because a Mexican family thought it was unfair their children were attending run down schools. Im sure they used this judge's dissent (kudos for him standing up for what is right) as well but you can't end this segment only giving him the credit.

Nice, very nice! Waring slyly outlined a legal strategy in his dissent, and bravely passed it on. And yet, the presentation still feels a little white savior-y... Really, no mention of poor Black parents who risked their lives & livelihood to protest? No mention of the Black principal and preacher, De Lain, who’s kid, Gona, wrote in “Dawn of Desegregation:” Briggs was first time “a group of American citizens had petitioned a United States federal court to abolish segregation in public schools with the claim that it violated the equal clause of the Fourteenth Amendment?” [I found this in “Struggling to Learn: An Intimate History of School Desegregation in South Carolina,” by June Manning Thomas ]

I do think that her 2nd wife is not the only factor of changing his perspective in the african american, but another factor is they (with his wife) are treated as an outcast. That is why they had a meal with other people of different color. Hence, he realized that we are not totally different at all.
