Amazing amount of useful info in 18 min; it will take a lot of time to unpack it and get a few ideas under my fingers. I know it's probably heretical, but I'm not much of a Vai fan-I admire him technically, but the songs don't really speak to me (I'm just not much of a metal fan). Having some the signature ideas isolated here for more general use has been really helpful (and makes me want to go back to his work and listen for these particular ideas). Thanks, Sam! -Tom
That "crying sound" is a bit reminiscent of Eric Johnson's koto technique, though he does it without a whammy, in a very different way: ruclips.net/video/ljHviOLnF0U/видео.html. So a very different physical technique, but aurally a bit similar. -Tom
Best lesson ever ,we need more ,a complete course with more of these tips & tricks that help us understand his style
Oooh yes. Subscribed. Loved the bending sample. Gonna really enjoy gong through your posts. Excellent chops dude.
The backing track and jam takes me back to listening to Vai's tune Boston Rain Melody when I was kid. Cheers Sam!
Great lesson Sam, inspired to go and play, keep rocking
