Your Sleep can determine your Hair Loss | The Circadian Rhythm in detail | Darling Buds Clinic

  • Hair loss can be due to poor sleep patterns like jet lag, shift work disorder and followign an unregulated lifestyle. Jet lag and sleep desynchronisation were shown to increase cortisol levels in humans. Jet Lag Disorder occurs when a person crosses multiple time zones in a short period of time and gets its name from the fact that it is often experienced by people who take intercontinental flights. Until a person’s circadian rhythm can acclimatise to the day-night cycle of their new location, they are likely to suffer sleeping problems and fatigue from jet lag- and if this is a regular phenomenon, hair loss and other serious medical problems as well.
Similarly, our 24/7 work obligations that lead to shift work which requires having to work through the night and sleep during the day. This can cause major disruptions in a person’s circadian rhythm leading to the Shift Work Disorder.
And thirdly, unregulated social lifestyles causing sleep deprivation, sleep debt and circadian deregulation.
Sleep impacts hair in 2 ways-
    (a) Melatonin regulates the sleep cycle and increases hair growth. While sleep has a direct impact on the human body’s natural hormones, it means that poor sleep reduces the amount of melatonin, potentially causing hair loss. And then,
    (b) Lack of sleep will stress people. The psychological stress response has been shown to lead to hair loss due to telogen effluvium. The reason is that the tiredness has caused the hair follicles to fall into an early resting state, followed by a period of loss earlier than normal.

I swear to god this might be true. My hair loss started in 2019 when I started staying up late till 3-4am playing video games. Maybe it's just AGA but I think irregular sleep cycle definitely contributed to my hair loss. I noticed after I started staying up late, my stress level went up, maybe that triggered my TE hair loss i don't know and you also start to age faster when you have bad sleep schedule. Although my hair loss isn't super aggressive and thank god for that, I'm taking finasteride. I also need to correct my sleep schedule.

After years of asking doctors this question, I have finally found the answer!
I have no family history of hair loss. In fact everyone in the family, even old people have strong and dense hair. I was always confused why I’m the first to lose hair.
But now I know my sleep cycle might just be the cause! I sleep at 2-3am precisely for what the doctor said. I felt more creative at night 🙁
Thanks Doctor! I will definitely change my sleep habits ! :)

Learning something new whenever I tune in to you.
Dr. Bhatti, I do have a concern and hopefully not a stupid question. And this deals with the safe donor zone for FUE extraction. The rules for the safe donor area for which to harvest grafts is the same for FUE as it is FUT isn't it?
The reason I am asking is because there is a clinic that is showing great results and in the comment section, the clinic is receiving all this praise like it is magic. However, the common factor in these cases seems to be harvesting beyond what I would consider the safe zone. In other words, they are going higher up to get more grafts. I would like to hear you thoughts on this. Thanks!

Hair afflicted by androgenetic alopecia will grow slower than the hair at the back and sides. It is important to follow the sun cycle since the hormones are regulated by day and light. The problem will lessen if you follow proper waking and sleeping hours. It may not go away since unhealthy lifestyle seems to have triggered your androgenetic alopecia.

I am from south..i don't have a thick hair..Infact 50 percent of men above 50 are bald in Kerala.

Yes those who have hair have thick and long hair. But when the baldness gene is present malayalis have higher incidence of baldness than North Indians do.

      @hairtransplantinindia  2 года назад +1

National average of baldness is 62% so Malayalis who are bald would be a greater percentage. It is a myth that baldness is not seen in Kerala.

@@hairtransplantinindia Doc, what's the reason? Genetics or poor lifestyle? As you know most malayalis apply coconut oil .Most men above 50 in kerala are bald and younger generation too.Is it due to the weather? Or the water we use to shower? Both my grand parents had thick hair and my dad is 58 he isn't that bald.I am 27 and in norwood 2.

@@hairtransplantinindia Doc, starting a clinic in kerala would be a great business idea.😋You and your team will never run out of patients .BDS doctors are doing hair transplants in kerala after studying plastic surgery.
