  • Albert Frost recalls in vivid details the heyday of fishing in Peel in the 1930s and 40s.
    The young lads could fish for gilpin in the harbour from Freddy Teare’s steps with a bent pin and string, though the fish was only good for the cats. More exciting was going out in the bay spotting flounders with a glass-bottomed box. But the herring was so plentiful around the harbour when the catch was brought in that gulls were too full to even take off to fly!
