Everything you said in this tutorial was excellent. I don’t think there was anything you didn’t cover, right down to leaving our third finger dangle. Thank you for such a detailed lesson. Really really helpful. ❤️
Yay! I'm so happy it was helpful for you.
Thank you so much Tiffany! I have been playing almost 2 years. I had been attempting these "full" left hand chords by using two hands, and am now ready to learn to "do it properly". I have struggled this week in how to form my hand for the fingering, and this video has helped me make it feel natural. Especially that one little tip - keep your pinky with your 4th finger. I am a self-taught harper (with MUCH help from Harpers on you-tube showing the way) and it's little tips like this we don't get if we don't have a teacher. THANK YOU!!! This has revolutionised how I approach these full left hand chords.
That's so lovely to hear! I'm glad you found it helpful. Happy harping!
Watching your video as pianist for inspiration 😀 thank you for the nice harmonies 😎
I love your wings! Thank you so much for the wonderful wonderful video, I will certainly make a difference when I play what little I know how to play for other people Tiffany!😊
@yoli4220 thanks for your kind words! So glad it was helpful.
Your harps look just like wings, that was awesome!!!😉
Love that sound.
Thanks so much for this wonderful class. It is very detailed for those like me that have never played the harp before. I hope one day l can learn how to play it correctly. Thanks for the way you explain the positions of the fingers.
I'm so glad it was helpful for you!
I have loved the 1-5-8 chord ever since you taught it to me. I will enjoy trying some of the variations.
WOW... That takes lots of practice... Thank you so much for all the help... I will definitely be trying this in the near future...
glad you found it helpful!
Love this! I’m a relatively new harpist and this is so helpful! Your improvisation with the different patterns in the second half was really beautiful!
This was very helpful and I like the way you broke down the Left Hand pattern so it was easy to see and hear - and then applied it in some pieces afterwards....thank you! Keep 'em coming! :)
So glad it was helpful Patricia!
Great video, Tiffany! I had been wanting a tutorial on THIS VERY THING! I'll already play some of these patterns, but I'll be getting the rest under my fingers starting today. Thanks so much; you are a treasure!
wonderful! Thanks for watching:)
Dear Tiffany Schaefer, thank you very much for your great videos. I am so happy about them. Although I'm only just starting to play the harp, I can already learn so much from your videos. Your teaching is really wonderfull!
Thanks so much, that means a lot!
Thanks Tiffany - very helpful tutorial! Will be using these more when improvising.
It’s called a MODAL chord by guitar Master Saraj MacQuaid 😎
I use it a lot.
Goes well in Dorian modes and quite often in Mixolydian too. :)
Your next album cover better be you posing in front of your harps as wings
I've been using 1-5-8 but I also learned a lot today. Thanks! I also found the camera angle very beneficial in seeing finger placement and shapes. Now I'm curious where my #5 goes. I thought it was "glued" to #4 but I need to check.
Look like an angel
Wow, I did not know there were so many variations to that particular chord, I thought they were all beautiful, thank you that was very informative, can I add your camera angle was very helpful, but if you could brighten your lighting a bit more it might be even easier to see, I will be bookmarking this video to learn these. Thank you for your time and talents.
Thanks for the feedback Deb! Yes, I think we could go on forever with variations to this, I didn't even add all the ones I could think of! I hope you enjoy learning them
Very cool ! These are for celtic music or are used also for other genre?
Anything you want! I had slower songs in mind when I made these.
I like doing 1-5-8-10&12 where 10&12 are at the same time also I'll use 1-5-8-7-6-5 for a long pattern
Those are great ideas, thanks for sharing!
I’m a butterfly!
P.S. I liked your butterfly wings too!!!
What brand of harp are you playing? Its sound is magnificent!
Hi! It's a Thormahlen Ceili. Thorharp.com.
Isn't the thumb "1"? I'm confused now. I play 4-2-1 a lot, where "1" is the thumb. But perhaps that's counting the fingers, not the strings. Is that the difference?
Yes! You're exactly right. The 1-5-8 is referring to the numbers of the scale, which is played with fingers 4-2-1. It's just easier to talk about patterns when referring to them in numbers, plus they can be transposed to any key easily.
