I learned to knit when I was 3, I asked my mum to teach me because I was fascinated and spent a lot of time just watching her knitting. She did advise me to start with a scarf too: it's a great way to learn how to how the needles and master the basics without all the fuss of increasing/decreasing/knitting to gauge and so on... She thought I'd get tired pretty soon but I stuck to it, finished it and here we are I'm almost 52 and haven't stopped. So, well done for your sweater WIP, and well done to your daughter for starting her scarf, maybe she's just started a lifelong relationship. And if she tires of it before the end (the length of a scarf may indeed be a bit too much for a first project) , you can always join the two ends of the scarf and make a cowl.
Your mittens looks good too. I don't think there's a right or wrong cuff length. And actually a long cuff is nice because it stays well tucked into a coat sleeve :) I'd go on and make the second the same to have a pair i.e. some sense of achievement before turning to the next project.
Just my two cents of course :)

Hello, thanks so much for watching and for your comment too :) That's lovely to hear how you started knitting. I agree a scarf is a perfect project just for getting the hang of the process of knitting, and my daughter does seem to be sticking with it too! She's hoping to have it finished in time for Christmas, so we will see! :) x

Catherine, I'm so impressed with how good your Felix looks, considering you say you're not an experienced knitter - it looks amazing! I definitely have to cast on mine soon 😁 I would go for the Nutmeg colour for your October socks, it's such a beautiful autumnal colour 🥰

Aw, thanks Emma! I’m also quite pleased and very surprised with how the Felix is turning out 🙂 I think I might like to make a stripy jumper for my next one… and then maybe try some colour work… 🤔 it’s so hard not to get carried away with plans though!

@@catherinecrochets I think you’ll really enjoy colourwork - plus you’ll already be a pro at reading charts etc from your tapestry crochet ☺️
