@@schmidtyhk I built a house and made it 11 x 3 in size, Figure I could fit enough chests in there to keep me happy. The smoke effects are amazing, I'm pretty certain this is first survival/base building game where you actually have to think about the smoke, allowing it to escape while at the same time doing it in a way that doesn't let the rain put out the fire. Pretty awesome stuff.
@@Hals They sold me at death by falling tree. But it keeps looking better and better as I watch videos. This game looks fantastic. Can't wait to download and try it out.
Didn't know about the strength levels with the colors. Great tip. Also regarding the fire, I like to build a 1x1x1 vertical walls as an outside attachment to the building creating a real chimney. Then you can use a half wall to block off the inside and it looks like a real fireplace.
Yes for sure! The style I gave here was simply a very basic starting design, if you check out my recent Longhouse Tour video you can see 2 of my chimney designs :)
Instead of a hole in the roof you should have a hole at the top sides, the triangles. That way you have maximum comfort bonus. And you gain a shelter from rain for the fire.
And to make it look pretty use the little sloped walls inside of one another in either direction to make a little diamond shape, only works if you have the steel roofs with the shallow sloped wall tho, other ways either look goofy or the smoke can’t get out for some reason
What I did for my fireplace was built in the back of the starter house with a higher roof line with an opening on the side of that roofline to the lower roof and it vented just fine. and looked way better.
for the whole in the roof, just use 2 long pillars on the lower side, and 2 1/2 pillars on the upper side and drop a roof ridge on top. it looks alot better that way.
Great guide. I've been playing with the building and I build a small chimney for the smoke. I like the tip for the chests. Will have to add that to my build.
For the chimney tip I have also another idea that I'm using on my own. Among 45° rooftops just use the 26° one above the fireplace, this creates a small hole allowing the smoke to go out.
Oommmmggggg I dddint know about putting floor under the fire! Amazinnggg. I have like over 20 hrs in the game already since launch and 3 bases. Never thought of that.
Great tips! I'm absolutely loving this game. I got Minecraft for the first time about a month ago and I just couldn't get into it. But this is so addictive! I'll eventually I'll give Minecraft another go 😂
You can make chimney for fireplace by simple stacking walls. Put a door for one of lower walls to access the fire place if you need to stack logs. Rain does not seem to go through open top chimney.
I made this house for cooking. It's a 8x8(small square size) house with 4 fire pits and each fire pit has 2 cooking stations on it. The perimeter has a basic 3 block high wall with 45 degree roofing. In the center where the fires are. Around that in the corners of this 4x4 area(still small blocks) are pillars extending above the original roof by about q 2 block high amount and then a full roof on it, leaving no room for rain but a nice ventilation system.
Great tips! That is a lovely viking hall there at the end! You should definitely consider doing some build videos in the near future on how to nail that viking aesthetic
Im still scared of cutting really tall trees on heavly densed forest, sometimes two fall off at the same time 😂 the 2nd one got stuck when i first cut it and couldn't reach so i forgot about it lol
I place 2m long wood blocks around the fire, then above the fire I build walls going up and through the roof, then I place a 26 angle roof on top. This way you ventilate the house, but when it rains the roofed chimney blocks the water and you can maintain your fire
Brah the last tip got me good. I was trying to figure that hud hiding yesterday when I got a good shot of my boat on a dock I made with moonlit ocean. Damn. Well thank you!
Here's my tip with indoor fires. Use the eaves of the building for ventilation. Then you don't have to have a weird piece of roof sticking out. Use the "crosses" pieces at the peak of your roof, instead of wall pieces.
I'm excited to mess around more in this game. I love base building in games like Rust or The Forest. I'm excited for this though because the base building is very forgiving and you can easily delete or move stuff without losing the resources to get them. In rust, I get tired of being stomped on before I can finish a base or having it get destroyed while I'm offline (or wiped after a week or two). The forest's build mechanics are sort of clunky and they don't end up looking as cool. This looks like a really good mix of what I like about both without many of the downsides.
I use the roof tops, and remove one from above my fire. Then use vertical beams around the opening on top (they lock in on the corners) then add a rooftop on top of those to let the smoke out. If it doesn't fit, you can start with walls and replace them with vertical beams or put horizontal beams across.
I built along the coast on a peninsula. I then turned that into an island by digging a moat. I did it at first because it turned out i was close to the black forest so i had wandering monsters on occassion.. So i wanted defence. Turns out to be very helpful because i was invaded by dwarves 2 times in 3 ingame days. So i dug deeper and put spikes in the moat. I also made a bridge with a gate. Now that ive killed elder i get teolls attacking. I made the moat deeper. Which def helped. Only damage to the spikes and some of the bridge which was fine since base itself was ok. Now i have stone walls that i replaced my wood walls with around the base. Im currently replacing the bridge now.
Not only is it my favorite but a huge part of the game because the further you explore the more you need outposts. So I make full blown outposts, forward operating bases, lumber depots, etc.

I don't play this so I don't know the mechanics. But I was wondering why you don't use the historic way of building to get the smoke out. That is to leave a space in the wall point of the roof, so not the roof itself.
There is a better way to have campfires indoors... the peaked rooves have a gap at the bottom... the smoke will naturally flow up and towards one of them and outside
That's not really too much of an issue as it's easy enough to break and move the campfire, also roofs/chimneys can always be changed and reconstructed easily
