If there’s something I loved about water 7 and sasuke retrieval split up arcs is that With one piece it didn’t really feel that bad in fact it was calm and beautiful until the viewers thought the main characters eyes finally realized everything was falling apart and robin was gone before they even realized And with Naruto we already had set up that the retrieval team were powerhouses and based on Naruto’s growth and the retrieval team saying they got stronger too make the team feel like a powerhouse team. Until there numbers get cut one by one and we finally realize the villains are not to be taken lightly just because there kids
It's not a split up arc because that's not the driving narrative they split up because that's the tool the author uses to advance the character's developments as individuals.
He never really said it was but couldn’t come up with a name for it. He’s clearly explaining that the teams will be divided for multiple reasons sometimes by force or on purpose. He even says the “actual” arc names while explaining a “split up arc” in his explanation. He’s explaining how to correctly write arcs that center around a team going after something for a limited time while another established team is meant to be their opposition. He also explains different things well like not all battles should be won right out. This is very similar as the trial trope where if a character is given a set of three trials he shouldn’t be allowed to pass all three or fail all three. He also explains simple stuff that people should already know like fights should be more personal. And he also explains things most probably don’t realize like characters need to be made specifically for defeating or losing to their match ups. He did really good for the small points he wanted to make.
Although tournament arcs don’t count I’d like to point out Yuyuhakusho follows this formula perfectly. And that’s probably why it’s the best tournament arc ever
Usually those kinds of villains only matter to the plot in the beginning stages of the story - when the hero(es) is/are still weak and learning about themself(selves) Take Zabuza from Naruto, for example - of course, Naruto still remembers their fight and what he learned from that experience running into Zabuza - but overall, he didn't really matter once he was defeated (cause he died) The one-arc exclusive villain archetypes you're talking about serve as good first obstacles to the protagonist(s) - they're supposed to be the rude awakening of the hero to the "real"/"adult"/"cold" world around them, and are obstacles that the hero must face and overcome in order to grow and get stronger (whether that be mentally or physically) Another way to use one-arc exclusive villains is in the middle/later parts of the story, to show off the growth of the hero - the villain doesn't necessarily have to be emotionally resonating or important to the heroes or the viewers, they just need to pose a certain level of threat Here's what I mean: say you have a weak hero that slowly grows stronger over the course of the story, and they run into a strong one-arc villain who wants to beat them Sometimes, villains don't need to be stronger or more dangerous than the heroes - you could call this type of villain a "fodder villain" Continuing with the example scenario above, Villain A is the first villain in a story - they have a power level of 20 and severely outclass the Hero, whose power level is only 9 (simple example) One way or another, somehow the hero overcomes Villain A and survives the encounter, to then go on to become stronger and more experienced Sometime in the middle section of the story, the Hero runs into Villain B - say Villain B is just as strong, if not slightly stronger than Villain A, and has a power level of 22 You can use Villain B (who, in this scenario, is a one-arc exclusive and narratively relatively unimportant villain) to show off the growth of the Hero Villain B is actually slightly stronger than Villain A (who once beat the shit out of the Hero), yet is now not perceived as being that strong - compared to the Hero, who has grown and reached a power level of 30 That's the only other way to use a one-off villain that I can think of, usually these villain archetypes are reserved only for the beginning of the story - where neither the conflict nor the stakes are that high
There's a simple way of achieving this in my opinion, making it abrupt, making this villain someone, that even if they're involved in the plot, there wasn't any reason for them to participate or to be know by the heroes, by being hidden or, by being someone uninvolved like a mercenary or some other sort of opportunist who saw some gain in messing with the protagonists At least that's what i would do, hope this helps 😊
is a back story enough to flesh out all the villains in a spilt up arc like this, like i introduce 10 villains and i show their backstory in the fight is that enough? this question is not for reoccurring villains just ones u introduce and get rid off in the same arc.
You can make the villains connected in someway so that you can cover all of them in like 1-2 back stories, 3 at most. Also if you don’t want to bring them back then try to expand the world using these villains, otherwise it’s just too many characters for no good reason
@@SakthidharPV-o9g thank you, i always write and think how would the story be if i removed this part, if it does not change i change it or remove it, so doing what u said would make the char necessary
This gets into curiosity if you're going to do this with Tentei, I only read volume 1 and it was fine, but if you are I'm excited to see how that turns out.
I really appreciate it. The training arc on my 2nd channel has vastly improved my artwork, so I hope you stick around for Vol 3. As for the Split Up arc, I'll have to think about it.
Wait idk if u remember this but i was arguing with u once whether nami was a damsel. Then here u say that arlong in arguably a rescue arc so what changed? I fucking love ur content btw
I dont remember, but I said "arguably" because Nami isnt held captive or in immediate danger like actual rescue arcs. Its arguable, but not definitive.
@ what about sasuke in retrieval i mean orochimaru technically did a better job at teaching sasuke than jiraiya did with naruto but sr is considered a rescue arc anyways
I wonder how would you classify the arcs in Magi: Labyrinth of magic and D.gray man? That and shows which are a bit below the most well known but are great as well, Rave master, Toriko and Black Clover come to mind.

another question how do u write a 1 arc villain properly one that was not foreshadowed and the arc is short
