Great video to watch before you tackle this project!!! One thing to add. I had really stubborn bolts(264K miles on my 2004 Colorado) so lots of Liquid Wrench and hammer taps on and around the bolts!!!! And lots of Patience.... Also, I almost broke 2 wedges.... an axe and a sledge hammer used as a wedge while trying to get off the axle nut!!!!! Instead of using either of those to wedge the hub, leave on the caliper assembly and stick a screw driver into one of the rotor slots near the brake assembly so the rotor cannot turn. Works a lot better!
Bob H Oh yeah, use good sockets such as Metwrench. The design of the sockets make it highly unlikely that you will round off any bolts and when you apply as much torque to the bolts as I did today, that is a really big plus. I literally had to stand and bounce on the breaker bar a dozen times before the axle nut came loose....
+Bob H It's a great idea to use the screwdriver like that. Another thing I do instead of the bouncing on a cheater bar is to put the breaker bar in a position so I can put a floor lift jack cup under the end of the bar and just jack up the breaker bar end until it breaks loose the nut. You might put a rag between the cup and bar to keep it from slipping, but it works pretty well.
Bought a 06 4wd Colorado Z71 and I can say that this is a very good video and his review on the Chevy forums is excellent also. First time for me to really work on trucks and made it through with a new hub that's totally silent now. TY from years later :)
I utilized this vid many yrs ago...This vid was very very helpfull when I used it. I still own my 2005 4wd rado. Its 2016 & I always refer back to this vid as my repair guide. +Thx bursott1
Thanks man I thought I was going to have to take it all apart just to change out the pads but I see its nice and easy. it's my first truck always had cars so this help out big time....
"wiggles right off" - ha ha, in my dreams! Thanks GM for making it so hard to replace a broken wheel stud. Good You Tube video though by this mechanic.
Got the broken one off after three days lol couldn't get the passenger side off. Ended up with a leaky brake cylinder in the back. I sure love the truck but they couldn't have made the braking system any more of a pain in the tookus. Allergic to beer but jäger sure helped a lot and neighbors now think I've got Tourette's
I like your video bro it's pretty good I would like to ask you a question I know this video you posted 10 years ago did you change your knuckle on your truck so high suspension if you answer me appreciate it
I can get the sensor as a hub again, because buying a new hub but it came without the ABS sensor, and another question is whether the right wheel sensor can be placed on the left side also. I say this because I have damaged the sensor on the right side but I have a new sensor on the left side, I can also install and official
Tiffany Reynolds lots of wd40, beer, and patience/excessive use of bad words. I wedged my breaker bar between the brake cover and the nuckle, hit it with a rubber mallet...rotate/switch sides and repeat. 6 hrs of work later, it finally came off. I applied anti-seize to all the contact areas and it went back in MUCH easier. Hope you got yours done.
I just did the hubs on my 2008 Chevrolet Colorado and the ABS light and ABS Fault Warning light both went out for a day but now they're back on again. Any ideas what I should do next? I don't own a ABS scan tool.
Hey Luigi a lot of guys are saying it’s the ground on the sensor and ground at the computer itself. We all keep replacing sensors and it doesn’t help. Has to be some thing else.
so why didn't you show the whole procedure ? to replace rotor you must remove steering knuckle then unbolt rotor damn lot of work to replace the damn rotor we did both sides thanks chevy for a screwed up procedure
Thanks for the vid I saved 2grand coz of it and I learned more tricks. It is way faster using the brakes to un torque or re-torque the spindle nut and rotor bolts. Also after you are done loosening those and brakes are off it is easier to undo outer tie rod and then turn the hub assembly to undo the hub bolts then connect again use wd-40 to soak around hub to steering nucle fitting if it jammed y hen shimmy out hub with rubber mallet and cro-bar if u are going to replace rotors now is the time to do it!!!!!! Thanks for the vid

Still the only god damn 4WD Colorado brake/ hub video out there, thanks man!

Whoever designed the hub, rotor and wheel bearing setup on this truck should never be allowed around cars again
You just described the majority of automotive engineers.
For real
no air tools? your the man!

Thanks buddy! I have a 2wd and had never disassemled the hub before... Your video was very helpful
don't let anybody give you shit about having the jackstands, the jack and the tires underneath as a safety, you can never be too careful
Thanks man I thought I was going to have to take it all apart just to change out the pads but I see its nice and easy. it's my first truck always had cars so this help out big time....
Thank you for this! About to do mine on my 2012, seems like it’s not too bad.
Thanks for your videos. I just did mine in 2 hours first jack to test drive. Very helpful.
Might need to borrow that axe..I have a couple hubs to replace. Great vid!
"wiggles right off" - ha ha, in my dreams! Thanks GM for making it so hard to replace a broken wheel stud. Good You Tube video though by this mechanic.
Bob H...I was just about to suggest the old screwdriver in the rotor trick....isn't that what all those little holes are for? LOL
Your video saved me a bunch of time man, cheers!
Thanks for the vids!! I'm going to do mine this week, Wish me luck. P.S. does the cig help?
Thank you for sharing! So much useful info!
You could have placed a bar in between the brake pedal and drivers seat...it works.
dudes smoking when working. I think my favorite part was when he was laying on the breaker bar while smoking. lol.

btw I like what you did to you're truck she's pretty mean looking I check out some of your other videos...
Note leave wheel on break hub bolt way easier

Why’s outer tie rods on up side down? The nuts supposed to be on top?? Well at least on mine 🤷♂️
Hardest part of this job was the damn abs line... fuckin clips. Lol
Have an 06 4x4 and can't get the effing hub off...any nifty ideas or advice?

Chevy and their stupid fucking captive rotors. Great job on that design. I own a 2006 and their brake system is crap.
Great video, Thanx!
What is the size of the axle nut on a colorado chevy?
with 4WD do you need to pull the entire yoke like it shows on alldatadiy?
I've just recently purchased an 04 colorado. are there any lube points I need to hit on my next oil change.
wat was wrong with it did the bearing bust or something?
wow....just to replace the rotors....damm thats a lot of shit.. thank for good viedo..

can ax running removing arrows and 4x4 transmission?
so why didn't you show the whole procedure ? to replace rotor you must remove steering knuckle then unbolt rotor damn lot of work to replace the damn rotor we did both sides thanks chevy for a screwed up procedure
Ken Dixon You didn't have to do that. You just turn the wheel out to reach that 4th bolt on the back.
You need some air tools .
3:45 tie rod boot torn?
no wonder you don't have an impact wrench , you spend all your money on cigarettes
Dents-n-dings?
I showed the entire procedure...you just did it wrong.
Hey bro: just have a question on the new hub install. Do you pack the bearings with grease prior to installation?
nvm, lol just seen part two , trashed the senser
