    Gads! This "gal" is talented! She played that in her......graduation recital!!!!And with the flair and ease of a pro! Sheesh! What I wouldn't give to be able to play this gorgeous Rachmaninoff piece at all, much less that suavely!

    Hello Fred, thanks for the links, absolutely amazing I thoroughly enjoyed this and by far the best rendition of this piece. I have listened to a lot of ms Wang and in some pieces she is a breath of fresh air and others, OK. However my YT friend, very hard to compare a 24 year old prodigy to a 65 year old master and ditto for the pieces she plays like the Rach III. Sort of like comparing a Bugatti to a Vesper isnt it lol? Give her some more years.....

    And as I just saw the link below she was 19 here :)

    She was only 19 years old here! That explains the long hair and the long, modest dress.

    Listen to Chura Cherassky play this piece and you'll hear a charming rendition. This Wang is all technical wizardry.

      Para mí es mejor la versión de Wang que la de Horowitz !!!

    I'm not berating her. No. She's not bad, perhaps, the most impressive 19 yr old pianist on any continent and her rendition of this polka piece, while not true to the intended original composition, is, nevertheless, of a different take and a ball of fun to hear.

    What a silly comment by freeqwerqwer . This is a polka, not a Viennese waltz...written by a Russian...no Kreisler or Godowski needed. Plenty of feel, along with the easy technique...no need to compare to anyone else. It is a wonderful performance...
    Yes, he should not be so critical...and needs to be a little more musically comprehending...:-)

    Listen to Chura Cherassky play this piece. He plays it with charming flow. This Wang is all about technical dazzle and wizardry.

    @nextren nonsense,,,,one could learn a lot from her 'sonority' ....

    I think you would gain great gratification from Bang Bangs playing..

  • @EdwinRywalt
    @EdwinRywalt 13 лет назад

    @nextren OK, you're entitled to your opinion, but 'doesn't organize her sonorities', 'seems to get tired', 'strengthen her hands' , 'get some REST', 'listen to her sound more closely'?? What??? where do you get that stuff??? I think you need to get more rest and listen more closely.

    It's just someone who is BRAVE enough to play outside the box. You must be a bore in life.

  • @bloodgrss
    @bloodgrss 11 лет назад +3

    But your own "incomprehension " still stands; this polka has nothing to do with a "Viennese waltz'. Perhaps you should sturdy your musical theory a bit more...
    You don't like her performance is, of course, your option; I do not look for absolutes. I think she plays the composers SCORE...and with plenty of bounce and fun. The fact that other versions are different doesn't make her merely a "technician" or ignorant of "european art"...any more than a viennese waltz is a Russian polka...;-)

  • @freeqwerqwer
    @freeqwerqwer 11 лет назад +1

    And, bereaved fool, as for her age thing, she has already planted her musical roots and isn't expected to alter drastically with age. Hear Pollini's playing Chopin's piano concerto #1 at age 19 and hear him again playing it, now decades later with a white mane. In fact, he played it better at 19.

  • @bloodgrss
    @bloodgrss 11 лет назад

    A typical comment from a fanatic of another pianist...not a fan. A YT staple...

  • @bloodgrss
    @bloodgrss 11 лет назад

    More fault than that...but you seem determined to shill for Chura's version here and elsewhere no matter what; he is a great pianist....still doesn't make a Viennese waltz a Russian polka...more power to ya...
    Of course, your opinions of Grafmann, and who or who is not an "artist", are simply prejudiced shallowness...but more power to ya....

  • @bloodgrss
    @bloodgrss 11 лет назад +1

    It is plain to see that this is rubbish opinion, meant to dazzle us with your critical acumen, but in the end, it feels empty. I think it is due to your laughable asian bigotry in not realizing she was brought up on "european" music and trained with Gary Graffman, who's Russian heritage and training in "european art" is impeccable. Horowitz is my template anyway, with Rach himself next-Chura's is fine but not 'transcendent'. Yuja does well enough in any case without silly need to compare...

    As to the ethnic question, there's no denying that if one were raised on polish dance art one might play Chopin well like many slavic/jewish Russians do. Wang, on the other hand, was raised hearing the bangs, clangs, and screeches of chinese opera and that's why her Chopin is horrendous.

    • @LaurentPingaultLyon
      @LaurentPingaultLyon 3 года назад

      I don't think so, she mainly has been listening to classical music during her childhood, check the Chinese video about it. Since 6 y.o her teacher, found of Russian music, opened her mind to the full repertoire

  • @freeqwerqwer
    @freeqwerqwer 11 лет назад

    I'm afraid the keeper of foolish thoughts is you for suggesting that her training is "impeccable", as your standard for top caliber playing is questionable. I'm not saying Wang isn't talented but there's no artistry in Wang's playing, It is all just a child's idea of technical widzardry.
    Also, being a student of Graffman, a not particularly amazing pianist himself, Wang falls into the level of impressive pianistic talent but not an artist.
    My only fault is to criticize a 19 yr old kid.

  • @freeqwerqwer
    @freeqwerqwer 12 лет назад

    Well, Wang's interpretation of this piece is almost generic, meaning bland. dont get me wrong, She does have fab technique and good dynamic sense of balance yes. But she doesn't know play with the essential charm of a viennese waltz. Her accents, timing and little graces have no polka feel. listen to Fritz Kreisler or leopold Godowski play viennese waltz and you'll understand what i mean. But for a 19 yr old, I shouldn't be so critical .
