Kentucky fan here... I was not "checked out on John Calipari," but he left, and Kentucky goes on being Kentucky. Coach Pope is doing great things already. The goal is winning, and I think Kentucky will continue being the winningest program in the NCAA.
It's easy for you to say good not great. Well guess what they are going to be great! That's right great right off. You think Cal is great ? Look at his last 6 years and this past year . First time in history 3 home loses in a roll first game of S.E.C tourney loss. Then he says they were made for NCAA tourney and lost to a 14 seed in the first game. Brea just committed. They got their starting 5. 83%eFG on catch and shoot??? It’s game over. EVERYBODY is on notice now. This is a SOLID TEAM. If they can all buy in and learn the system and play together the way Pope wants they will make a lot of noise. You’re looking at a top 10 defense off the bat. Knockdown shooting? Just got it. Paint presence and rebounding? Got it. An offensive 4 who can shoot and spread the floor? Got it. Leadership and experience? Check. Toughness? Check. This is gonna be a good year for kentucky fans with an actual POSSIBILITY to hang a banner ON PAPER at least. Still need a couple bench pieces but that shouldn’t be hard to come by seeing as how everything else has completely fell right into place like magic.

Kentucky goes from 5 Starting freshman with zero experience to being able to have 5 fifth year seniors with proven experience. Alvin Brooks III and Jon Hart will bring in guys cause they know what NBA takes. There's not another staff out there like Kentuckys right now. It's like when uk football used to only win 2 games a year.

I like that these national guys always think they need to lecture UK fans about having realistic expectations. We are all well aware that this is a multi season rebuild. Give the condescending lectures a rest. It’s tiresome and lazy.
You guys dont realize how good this roster is. No one has ever had this many eoite defenders in a lineup in years. Four of his first six guys were all defenisve players. We added shooters too. At BYU he liked defensive play followed by kicking out to shooters. He has that. UK will be great.

If he couldn’t get out of the first round this past year, he wasn’t going to do better with a worse team. Cal left on his own. The fans weren’t happy with paying him $9 million a year to win no post season games. I can do that. Even after getting a public back from the AD he left to go somewhere else because of his own ego. Now he has mostly the same staff and a so-so roster. I’m sure he can coach them up though. 🙄

It's not good and there's a reason even the experts who were most heavily invested in separating UK from Cal are not willing to say Pope will ever crack the top 25 next year. The sad thing is there's a real strong chance we not only lose vs what we had, but also just lose to Cal straight up as well. You're right to be in panic mode because it's your fault.
