- Today I try to have a dream wedding in The Sims 4, and then I try using Carl's mod to fix it!

Hey there. So learning dance wouldn't work for James led me to investigate a bit deeper into that interaction. This is a very big bug with the pack I had not discovered until this morning. It turns out none of the situations in this pack are triggering correctly, which won't let the AI do the things that you expect them to do. They get stuck in 'Arrival' the entire time the wedding is going on. So my toasts worked great, I heard, but dance doesn't and this is the why. I'm working on a fix this morning that will make those parts of the party work, too.

I'm really thinking this was a retaliation from the programmers for all the complaining over the years. "You want them to sit? Fine, we'll make them sit."
He didn't tell them to "gather for recessional." That was probably the interaction he needed to do to start the ceremony.

I don't think you clicked "have guests sit" too much. Lilsimsie reported the same problem: when they sit, they don't get up anymore...

In my experience they still don’t sit. At my sims’ wedding, the guests all crowded in the aisle, preventing the ceremony from starting at all, wouldn’t sit when I clicked that command, and then pissed themselves in the aisle on a lot with three working, accessible, unoccupied bathrooms. 🙃
I love how deli is the one walking semaj down the aisle and also the one delivering the swoonworthiest kiss ever. Deli is one to get things done, semaj is a lucky and pampered sim

Its broken. Don't give EA any excuses. You cannot recreate the trailer, that's broken. It was broken in their own official livestream and they released it as it was which is pathetic. The release day patch did nothing. The patch to fix it should be a complete fix and they shouldn't come back until it is. They literally sold a game that doesn't work, in any other instance that would be a scam and false advertisement
Honestly. It’s wild to me that they did a livestream where it didn’t work, released it in that state, and then put out a patch with *no patch notes to tell us what they apparently fixed* and there is no visible difference since that patch. Nobody can tell what was supposed to have been fixed

21:55 No, that's not your fault, James. Packs should be tested in combinations with other packs to test that everything works fine. By not testing them, it's how you end up with the festivals from City Living being ruined by the weather from Seasons.

So I know it's annoying when it keeps happening but... admit it, it added a nice bit of realism the first few times it happened because when hasn't an even been ruined due to poor weather planning?

I kind of wish that the wedding worked more as a whole cued event. Like, you would click what you wanted for the ceremony in the planning window and then the whole event would just go without having to cue each thing individually. Then the reception could have just worked like normal gameplay. It would be a lot less micromanaging.
Yes, this! You should be able to plan the formal part of the ceremony in advance, and then just click to have it happen as you planned it.
I feel like that would make it even more of a nightmare tho, considering some actions aside from the wedding ones may take priority (like peeing yourself/dying/falling asleep) so it may cancel queued actions and may mess up the actions of everyone else. That’s probably why it’s a select event kind of thing
When a DLC has so much missing code even a modder can't fix it. I understand new releases in any game almost always have bugs, but this is on another level. I've never seen anything like it in the 20+ years I've been a gamer.
This is honestly no man sky level. It’s really disappointing from such a big company as ea. At least no man sky did major improvements. I don’t think es will work much on it. So sad since I think weddings are really important for many sim players.
Ultimately the problem comes down to the base game coding. I'm not sure if modders or developers can ever fix it.
I cannot comprehend how this could have been released. I work at a software company and the audacity to ask for money for this is through the roof. Someone should lose their job and everyone who paid for this should be refunded and get a voucher or something as an apology.
@@sophiewhite3140 It honestly makes perfect sense that this pack would be released like this. Why would they invest more time and money into developing something when they know that people will pay just as much money for something this broken? It's completely in line with everything they have done since the original release. Rather than fix issues, they create new ones and charge people for them. They will continue to lower the bar until people stop giving them money.

Yep. I was about to comment that. Technically, it's still in the inventory of the sim who purchased it, but invisible. The "clean out spoiled food" option wasn't disabled.
Ravasheen has already created a mod fix for the wedding cakes spoiling, thank goodness, but the Modders should not have to save this game as much as they do - it’s unfair on them!

What a great idea to compare the pack with and without Carl's mod. I have to give Carl props for attempting to fix the many problems with the pack. I suspect that he'll keep on working on his mod, but it's sad to say that I fear the Sims team won't make any meaningful attempt to get the pack working.
Us console users are just gonna be screwed. I refused to buy anf update my game till its fixed.
I do know that the sims team is working on bug fixes- but the fact they haven't told us that, or made any meaningful announcements or apologies about this pack really really sucks.
Yeah I hate the fact that it completely replaces the wedding system. I'm on console too so I just know this going to be bugged to shit and that we may never get fixes. Just not going to buy or update until I know an update isn't going to break the rest of my game. I haven't updated since Cottage Living due to all the other updates breaking my game.
They could if we all decided to sue in a class act lawsuit for false advertisement on a broken product
@@bonnieb9238 That seems a bit dramatic…yeah the pack is majorly broken, but just don’t buy it. If no one buys the pack, the sims team will have to fix it to make a profit.
my only question is why EA can't fix their own game but our modders can? even if the mod doesn't fix everything, it does something that wasn't done by developers

In the UK you're legally not allowed to lock the door to the building where the wedding is happening. It's one of those old laws from times when people could be forced to marry. I used to work at weddings and I remember a bride saying she wanted the doors locked so that her crazy ex couldn't come in and disturb the wedding and I had to tell her we couldn't. Instead, she ended up having a couple of male guests as bouncers at the door lol!
That's incredibly interesting, lol. I thought at first you were going to say they couldn't lock the doors because it'd be a fire hazard. I wonder if anywhere in the US has a similar rule

Normally, I buy every pack/expansion/kit etc same day, but I’ve taken all my favorite simmers advice and have delayed purchase until the bugs are fixed. I appreciate you guys being so honest with your reviews.

Knowing EA, I‘m just really afraid this isn‘t getting fixed and they just try to ignore it and push the focus on the upcoming kits/packs 🙃.

I already tried about 5 weddings on different lots, official ones and ones I build myself, with mod and without, with autonomy on and off. It's impossible to make it look like a nice wedding. I kept resetting them to clear their queue as well. Honestly, I tried everything I could think of to somehow make it work. It simply doesn't. This is going to end in a lot of people demanding a refund, including myself.
Trying to have a wedding three days into a new every lot challenge on a residential lot is the chaos we want.
Picture it: Semaj, Deli, Guidry, a couple stray cats….volcanic stone raining from the skies…guests attacked by bats…..

I was anxiously waiting to see Deli plan her dream wedding event, but after seeing this glorious masterpiece I think she's going to struggle to top this level of romantic perfection.
Seeing so many sims content creators just feeling disappointed is so funny to me, this is like what the 20th time a pack comes in with bugs and little to work with
I wish once you assigned roles to the wedding party, that once you’re at the wedding and start the ceremony that they would just automatically walk down the aisle in the order of who you have participating rather than manually making everyone walk down the aisle. Then you could just watch the wedding play out nicely instead of micromanaging the entire wedding. Hopefully they at least get it functioning. 😬
Yeah, they could have a part of the wedding planning UI where you set what order you want things to happen in the ceremony, and then when you click "start wedding" the ceremony should happen in the order you planned it unless you intervene.
Personally I would want to plan it in two parts, with the main ceremony being things that involve the wedding arch and the isle, and then an "after party" that involves toasts and the dancefloor. I'd like to be able to set a break in between those so guests can go to the toilet if they need to. I'm not sure how well a two-part event would fit with traditions from other cultures though.
@@SomeoneBeginingWithI i thought the rehearsal party was the perfect way of making that set plan, like how it tends to happen irl too. So if they made it that you did all the micromanage-y stuff at the rehearsal, it saved those choices and cues, then on the actual wedding you could watch it play out
@@sleeperooni I think that would be even more stressful. If the AI for the rehearsal is just as glitchy as the wedding AI in the current pack, you'd have the same problems trying to get sims to do what you want, and then you'd have to watch all those mistakes happening again at the wedding.
The problem with this pack isn't just that micromanaging is annoying, it's that even if you /want/ to micromanage the wedding, you can't get it to happen the way you want it because the AI is so bad and sims don't do what they're told.
@@SomeoneBeginingWithI oh I agree with you, the whole pack as it stands is trash. The glitches and issues make it unplayable but even if it was playable theyve got confused about what gameplay actually means in something like this. What they've done is tried to create pic opportunities i guess
My idea was based on the assumption the pack worked and EA werent lazy greedy assholes lol. In which case, it would've been nice to have the customisation so we each plan how we want our weddings to turn out without having to micromanage every tiny thing on the wedding day

I just played in a restaurant last night using Carl's dine-out MOD. It was great. For once, the pack actually worked and the waiters weren't dropping food everywhere.

More seriously, I have a feeling they would have done a a lot better with designing this so you chose all your options for the entire ceremony beforehand and then it basically played out like a cutscene unless you interrupted it. Unrealistic? _Absolutely._ But it would have worked. They could have used AI to determine the trips and head bumps and kiss flubs and when people joined in on stuff, but all the clicking takes you out of the flow of the event and, well, IT NOT WORKING is _incredibly_ frustrating.
I don't think that would be unrealistic. In real life people do plan their weddings in advance. The people involved in the ceremony know what they're supposed to do in what order because it was planned, and because they know what normally happens at weddings for their religion/culture.
The only good thing to come out of this pack is all the hilarious content we've been getting from these disastrous weddings. 🤣
This is disgusting at how broken this pack is! OMG! They KNEW it was broken 'cos weddings didn't work in their livestream! Look, I never complain about this game, I just don't because I don't have to buy these things and I bought this knowing it was broken but, for me, I only build really so I don't care how broken it is. BUT this time? I just can't stay silent. I'm angry for players who were excited for this pack and finding out how utterly broken it is. So not cool.
It’s more than just “not cool”. They are knowingly scamming people. And it continues as long as people give them money.

@@Xblackjckqueen people can complain, they are customers and as a customer they can be vocal about these issues. Even more than people that didn't buy it (but not buying it hurts EA more) because they invested money in the game.
How the guests dutifully sit tight but merrily chat with each other reminds me of a school class in detention. 😆 The wedding lots themselves are so incredibly bugged. I build one and when I tested it, a bunch of townies appeared and just walked around, into the chapel and out of it again without stopping to chat or interact with anything or anyone.
I think this is the one time giving early access to popular simmers backfired on EA lol. We got to see what a broken buggy mess this pack was and I’m sure their sales are suffering. I just hope this doesn’t discourage them from letting simmers get early access. I for one am grateful. I was super excited for this pack and would have bought it if not for watching all these videos. I worry they may try something where you only get access a day early or something I’m the future though. Plenty of game companies have done shady things when it comes to releasing review copies and reviews in general.
dine out released broken and has stayed broken since release. the gameplay in that pack is literally nil because restaurants always break.
Bust the Dust isn't quite as broken but the dust system is poorly optimized for normal game play, people will have to cut into time they could be spending pursuing other aspirations just trying to keep their house clean

They really should have put in some sort of "stand here" spot like with photography where wedding party members would wait after doing their thing. But bc there's no sequence to everything no one knows where to go
yes, you should be able to have the sim of honour and flower pal stand either side of the wedding arch during the vows

Too micromanage-y for my taste. I like the random things that happen in The Sims and I feel like that's what a lot of people miss from this version of the franchise but I guess as of lately micromanagers have louder voices

I think turning off autonomy might help to keep the couple from walking away while waiting for guests (even though they'd be waiting forever 😂)

On the forum I've seen a lot of people say they will buy it when it gets fixed. I doubt that ever happens. They will try to fix one or two little things and call it good. Yet people are planning on buying this buggy mess when it's on sale. If they can't put out a good product why buy it? That justifies them to do it again since you buy it anyway. Some people are gluttons for punishment.
I`m one of those people who plan to buy it when it goes on sale. I love the new world and the build/buy items are cute + i was never all that interested in the gameplay aspect to begin with, sure if it worked it would be fun to do a couple of times but it seems like something that gets old really quick.
They just cannot see beyond their own wants. They're just going "aw look a tiny new world to play all the other broken stuff in!", no matter how many ask to please not reward EA with money for this, no matter if we remind them theyll be bored of this world and decor so fast anyway and be begging for the next dlc, they'll still just go "but... I want new world NOW"
EA could release a pack that just clones the basegame worlds but changes the colour of the plants and still people would spend 20 on it, cause "new worlds"
@@lioraneve5265 If all you want is the build buy and don't care about game play, just go download some CC, save yourself some money and don't reward EA for bad behavior. Hell they have CC worlds if your really want something new to play in
@@kitsu1379 If I want new gameplay I can also get custom content - this community is blessed with a ton of very talented modders.
Mods also tend to create a lot of issues though - mostly when they are outdated but some also otherwise, plus you have to do alot of research to try and find trustworthy sources, else you may not just ruin your game but also your computer. Besides, mods are not an option for console players.

It would be fab if part of the feedback for this pack included getting a household or even just universal phonebook available for guest lists to parties. It's -so- annoying when you want to throw a kid's bday party but can't invite their friends because mum's never introduced herself. Social events should be a great way to meet other Sims, there shouldn't be a limitation on who you can invite IMO. There isn't for clubs.
Hey James, an interesting video would be “trying to beat the packs bugs” basically trying to outsmart the problems. For example no celebs, only a few guests, no autonomy, maybe trying to add everyone to a group and make them sit that way so then they will get up afterwards again. And also maybe leaving lots of room for routing around the wedding arch and chairs. Those are just a few ideas to see if we can make the pack work lol
So basically doing a pre-pack wedding, to make up for the packs bugs breaking everything? Lol

Once I found out this replaces base game weddings without an option to turn it off, i said pass. The world looks gorgeous but this pack is so buggy you have to laugh or you’ll cry 😅
judging by the Sims4 history, this pack would never actually get fixed. Moders are doing in days what the Sims4 team can't do in months... maybe we will get some small patches, but they won't change much.
One detail i wouldve liked in this pack is a wedding portrait once your sims are married. The same way Sims get after graduating, i wouldve liked this feature for a married sim couple, something that is placed in their inventory amd we can hang it up in their bedroom or smth. Would be so cute. Or the ability to take our own screenshots of our sims wedding and frame it around the their house. Would be such a cool feature.
I wonder if there is a bridezilla or groomzilla mod so they can yell at everyone and start throwing 💩when sims don’t follow instructions during the wedding.
Just FYI! Judith has the “no touching” fame perk and because you hugged in the animation, she got grumpy I think 🤣
You're lucky! I just planned out an entire wedding for my sims for no guests to turn up so my sims spent their wedding day inviting people to hang out at the lot but then they all went to swim in the sea then left. Honestly a sim dying at the wedding would have been better

To be fair, this is just like a real wedding; nothing works out as planned, your guests are NEVER where they are supposed to be and you just end up spending a lot of money for a chaotic experience.
The Sims team FINALLY had the foresight to make the game as interesting as real life.
No, this is NOT acceptable and how weddings are usually. I don't know what weddings you attended but it does not look like this and DOES NOT justify this game being buggy or glitchy. This is a broke stuff pack with an added world disguised as a game pack.

See here’s my thing, I think it should be an option to assign sims to be in your wedding OR ask them. The mandatory asking is a pain in the ass. Especially since they can tell you “no.” Not all players want the hassle or drama.
Watching this really made me happy in me decision to boycott Sims 4. EA has done a terrible job with a lot of the game and expansions/packs and I don't have high hopes for Sims 5 at this rate. I'm happy playing Sims 2, because nostalgia and also there is still an active modding community. Also I hope Paralives works out and is a great game. I'm more likely to try it over Sims 5 as of right now.
I am so upset I lost most of my mods for the Sims 2 that were one of kind and most of those modders are gone now. I am really thinking of going back to Sims 2 as that was my favorite out of the franchise. I agree EA has done a terrible job, and as someone else said - when they take over they kill the game smh. I pray they do not kill the Sims franchise but I do not see 5 being good at this point, this is so sad to me being a sims fan since the beginning.

Sims4 really nailed the realism on the wedding ceremony. The amount of juggling to get the ceremony to work, the amount of stress on the person running it, the difficulty getting the cake of your dreams, and the difficulty getting your guests to dance. Spot on.
The cake can be placed on table when you click a correct table and click “place cake blah blah blah”.
I used the new table.
The cake was just lost for me even with the mod because when clicking on the table the interaction didn't show up
Cakes spoil in less then a day. Its like 9 hours. Its better to buy them at the venue and put it immediately at the table with topper

Lil simsie also had problems with the cake thing. She also recommended not putting it in the planner and just keeping it in your inventory until you are ready for it. I think even having a fridge on-site would be good so you could keep it fresh during the ceremony.
There was one video where she kept it in her inventory and it went bad. The groom washed it down the sink! I know some people like chaos in their games but there are so many things that can go wrong with this pack even if you're not a player who wants chaos.
I'm just waiting for them to fix gardening, it's literally been 2 years since the plants reverting to dirt patch bug and it's still a problem. I wanted to get Cottage Living but not if that still happens.
Do you mean how the plants randomly turn back into the little circle of dirt again? That is super frustrating!

Lol my sims wedding is scheduled for just under two weeks in game time... all I can say is I hope they release a decent fix for it before I make it to that point or man its just gonna be ugh 😂

All my Sim families have greenhouses where they grow plants year round and that's their main income. I was so excited for Cottage Living where I could can what I grow, grow new crops, and sell everything at the market. But when Eco Living came out, it bugged the plants. Now unless I get up at six to harvest and make sure everything is harvested before the clock hits seven, they all revert to dirt piles. They have had hundreds and hundreds of bug reports on this, but they still haven't fixed it. They released a farming pack without fixing the "plants revert to dirt piles daily" bug. So I have very, very little hope they'll ever fix the bugs in this pack. I'm sure they've already moved on to their next money grab.
EA can suck it at this point. They can't even release a playable game and they wonder why no one is instreated in their expansion / game / stuff/ kits.
I'll stick with CC creators and excellent Maxis Match.
Yet the fanbase gobbles whatever pack they release up like theyre starved. This is just as much as an EA issue as the playerbase. Attacking the wallet hurts more.
The cake feature is broken. I got the pack and I just end up buying one right before the wedding or having a household member bake one during the wedding itself because it will never appear.
I made the fatal mistake of not only inviting a celebrity TO the wedding, but I had A celebrity wedding, with a guest list of 80% celebrities. You can imagine the chaos.
I wasn't paying attention and I heard 'me and deli are engaged' and I GASPED

2:18 Judith chose to hug you after agreeing to be maid of honour, and then complained about it because she had the fame quirk of not wanting to be touched. Get Famous was released partially broken (though not nearly as bad as Wedding Stories), and one of the problems was sims with the "not liking being touched" quirk still doing all the normal friendly animations that involve hugging, and then complaining afterwards.
Peeps, I think we really need to put our feet down here. They keep foisting this utter crap off on us, and it's got to stop. It's got to stop. If you've already bought this, no worries. I can see you were hopeful. But the rest of us---we can affect things. Let's do it. I want Slow Dancing so bad I can taste it, but...no.
That's really not surprising, I mean, we've got bugs from years ago that haven't been fixed yet, why did anyone think they'd fix this one? I appreciate James' honesty and it's nice to know most big simmers are talking about the amount of bugs.
Stop giving money to EA, play with the packs you already got, find other games to play that actually care about the final project, anything, but stop blindly trusting a company that has failed you again and again, just to complain about it when you spend money on a pack EVERYONE is talking shit about.
And if you really want a broken shitty wedding, there's infinite ways to pirate it and at least not give money to them
Is impressive just how much better the game works with this fan-made mod that apparently wasn't that complicated (I don't know, I've never made a mod in my life, but I heard it was something mad like two lines of code). The only thing I wish is that, when a Sim is toasting, the other Sims around should be holding their glasses ready to look like they're properly listening and engaging with the moment.

I really love that they have the option to walk down the aisle together. It’s actually the custom of my country but sadly a lot of ppl have been watching to much american movies so it’s getting less prevalent 🙄 I really do not want the ”exchange of meat/commodity” feel of the father (or mother) giving the bride (usually) away. 😖
I never looked at it as an exchange of commodity -although I'm sure there are origins in that based on many arranged marriages back in the day. To me, it was always the father was the protector of the daughter -the man who she ran to for comfort, advice, etc‐ and he gives her to her future husband to fulfill that role. Trusting that the husband will be dutiful in that. I'm more of a traditionalist, but I love the idea of walking up and down together, too! Every wedding is beautiful in its uniqueness!
Agreed Matilda! That sounds like a lovely tradition. I wish we had it in my country. As an alternative, I also quite like the idea of both parents walking both brides and grooms down the aisle together. It seems strange for the groom to just arrive on his own!

I'm going to buy the pack just because the world look so pretty and I like the clothes, but definitely going to wait until it's on 50% off sale.
It gave me error code 0 and made my whole game, not just the pack, unplayable for any longer than 30 minutes and having to save every in game hour. I've tried everything and ended up having to uninstall the other sims games I had on origin and completely reinstall the sims 4 with all the packs, it took me 14.5 hours and I still don't know if it works.
Thanks for your humorous look at My Wedding Stories James. It seemed to go better for you in both the modded and unmodded versions than I've seen in other let's plays. Clearly the gurus and/or Carl have a lot of work to do to make weddings work. But now I know how celebrities in your wedding can complicate the ceremony. I'm glad I bought this pack more for the world, CAS, and build/buy items.
I think I'll stick to having my Sims elope. This is absolutely ridiculous!
BTW James... the recessional is the part where they walk back down the aisle after the wedding. It's a processional before they get married and a recessional after.
EA is ruining their own franchise everytime they release a broken product. It's sad, the broken stuff overshadows the excitement that getting new sims content would have for me. I stopped buying their packs a year ago, and I used to be such a fan that I'd blindly buy every pack release since Sims 1. Sadly they can't be trusted anymore.
