    I really enjoy these information videos Mike. I’ve been coming to Lanza for the last 6 years on extended cycling breaks for around 3 months duration. It’s so good getting the news that you are providing as it increases my appreciation of this stunningly beautiful island.

    Thank you for the updates, Mike! I've been reading your newsletters since 2010 - always very interesting and useful since I'm visiting the island every year. It's great to see content here as well!

    We visited on a cruise ship about 12 years ago, visited Timanfaya, salt pans and vineyard, local tour operator etc. The guide explained how good the weather was all year round, we’ve been holidaying in Lanzarote about twice a year for the last 10. So in our case the cruise ship has benefited the island.
    We’re back again in April, cycling, walking, swimming, the island is great for the outdoor enthusiasts.

    Thank you Mike very informative. I have been living here 27 years and visiting longer. I am so happy to know that unused commercial property can be changed to residential use. Here in Costa Teguise there have been empty units since 1989! All round the Trebol area and across the road. Also near Nazaret apartments. It would be great to see them smartened up and put to good use.

    Thanks Mike! Taking you up on your offer to answer questions, I’ve wondered for quite some time about 2 eyesores. In Costa Teguise, along Ave Jablillo, next to Nazaret apts, for ages there’s been an ugly hole in the ground with metal fencing around. It seems a safety hazard as well as unsightly. There’s also a similar hole in central Playa Blanca, by SuperDino & across from Las Brisas, it’s a huge hole that has trash and debris in it. It’s terrible, really looks tacky. Does someone own them? Why doesn’t government insist on filling them in so they both don’t look so awful? Enquiring minds want to know!

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  8 месяцев назад

      Yep, in both cases the plots were bought by developers that then couldn’t get the funding to complete the projects. I think the one on Costa Teguise is now owned by a bank, so hopefully the new housing law will allow for it to be completed.

    • @CKnox-wm6ge
      @CKnox-wm6ge 8 месяцев назад

      @@LanzaroteInformation I hope so. We walk by the one in Playa Blanca quite a bit, it’s absolutely awful. I wish they would fill it in! It’s become a fly tip, a real nuisance

    Love the channel!. Keep up the great work. Our plan is to retire to beautiful Lanzarote in a few years - can't wait - but in the meantime we visit twice a year and watch RUclips videos 😊. I am a keen amateur photographer and I would love to get a copy of the book. Can you tell me is it still available and where would I find it?. Keep up with the fabulous tales of all that is wonderful in Lanzarote. Gracias😊

    Hi Mike, I came back to Playa Blanca last November after 12 months away & there didn’t seem to have been any progress on the new Leisure Centre. Back again after another 3 months & still no sign of it being completed. Do you know what is holding up completion please?
    Thanks for this addition to your weekly Newsletter - an excellent addition & much more personable.

      As I understand it, they are going through the tender process of appointing a company to run it currently, but so far no word yet on a timeline to get it open. We’ll update as soon as we know more.

    We had a defibrillator installed at the entrance to Hastings Pier, in Hastings East Sussex, UK. It was good because our Park Run passed it every Saturday, 400 odd runners, It was nicked in the first few weeks ! Shocking eh !

    Really useful video - thanks Mike (and have subscribed). 👍 Do you know the definitive truth about the newly extended Playa Blanca port? Is it (as suggested by Mr TravelON World) too shallow to allow cruise ships?

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  8 месяцев назад

      No, it’s not too shallow. It was always only intended for boutique style cruise ships. The mayor, Oscar Noda, is working hard to get the necessary permissions from departamento Costas, and once he has them, he’ll start working with the tourism department to persuade the relevant cruise lines that Playa Blanca will be a good port to visit.

    So long as the reclassification of rustic land is not abused and it becomes too imposing on the landscape, they should remember Cesar Manrique and his ethos regarding his beloved island. Converting old derelict commercial buildings to domestic dwellings seems a viable option.

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  8 месяцев назад

      That’s certainly the plan, and remember, rustic land will only be changed in exceptional circumstances, and then only to allow building residential properties, not tourist accommodation. The bottom line is we don’t have enough housing for the population of the islands currently.

    We've enjoyed watching your news videos, as we do your weekly videos from around the island; it's a great way to keep in touch with our favourite holiday destination even when we're not there. One feature that would be especially interesting (and useful) would be a "what's on" guide for the next week or so, mentioning special events like the carnival you spoke of in this week's video. We're actually coming out for a week from 7th March, so it would be good to know of events worth attending. Otherwise, thanks Mike and keep up the good work.

    Hi, we have been visiting Lanzarote & Fuerteventura for well over 35 years and really seen some changes, sometimes not all good. Would you know if or when the new passport check gates on arrival will come into effect as this will greatly increase the time to get thorough passport control. Thank you so much for your time and news .

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  8 месяцев назад +2

      The new gates are already in use for some flights, and will be implemented fully in the autumn of this year. But they will make it much quicker for you to go through - basically you’ll just scan your passport, a photo will be taken and you will go through.

    • @allisonbriggs1861
      @allisonbriggs1861 8 месяцев назад +2

      Was over in November and at Christmas and both times we went through the gates. Was surprised as I thought us Brits had to have passports stamped. They didn't let some arrivals use them though.

      It's just s guideline for immigration offices, and applies to everyone coming here, not just British people. If they are concerned that someone doesn't have pre booked accommodation, or perhaps a return flight, it's a way to check they can support themselves while here. It's been in place for many years.
