Good video but at a lot utilities this would not be the lineman’s job. We would simply replace the whole transformer and bring the damaged one back to the yard to be picked up and taken to the transformer shop where technicians would repair it, if it was worth repairing, for return to the field.
Nice video but i'm not sure that securing that spin grip nut with just a couple hits with a plier is enough to keep the oil inside. In case of short circuit, the temperature inside will rise very fast, causing an increase of pressure and if the insulator is not well secured, it will blow up first that the safety valve.
ever heard of the lid getting blown off these? had one down the road from me, got hit by lightning and blew the lid clean off, over the crossbar of the pole and ontop of the primaries.
+Real Lineman.com I'm Trying To Get One Of These type of transformers ( 5kva ) For Building A Teslacoil;DD But I Appreciate You Linemen Working Hard out there when there's a power cut, People Don't Know How Hard You Guys work out there witch is VERY unfortunateDD: Keep Up The Good Work Out There -_-
Scary how little holds that stuff together. Amazing how it all stays together for years in the hot and cold seasons.
Thank you for your tutorial sir, I'm new subscriber to your channel.
Thank you for what you do
Wow that's amazing love the transformer it's got a secret
Do you have no bonding to the can with the H2 bushing ?
Alternative question. Will H2 be connected to another H2 bushing
to create a Delta ?

Good information

Yes, I have seen several with blown lids. It is quite a sight.
Lightning is not kind to transformers.
The first thing you do before loosening the lid on a pot is to vent the transformer.
Awesome !! Thumbs up :D
Alex
If only big transformers were that easy to change out lol
Good video.
RODALCO2007 I see you on every video that had to do with electricity
👍👍

exactly they are true American heros we could do without a military but everything runs right with electric I'm glad that I wanna become a lineman!!!
just got 4 10-15-16kva pole transformers there nice!!!!
Whats the mineral oil for?
keith stone Mostly cooling but it also has very good insulating capabilities.
My first look inside a pole mounted transformer. I want to understand fault current at MSB vis-a-vis kA ratings. Thanks 16OCT2017
Inside is PCB dielectric oil?
No. It is non pcb mineral oil.
At one time they were filled with PCB oil but that was phased out many years ago.
What is that liquid thing inside the container?
Suraj kumar Mondal cooling oil so it doesn’t over heat.
Mineral oil, which is non-conductive (when not contaminated).
Cooling and and the oil has high dielectric strength
If it’s a newer transformer, it might be vegetable oil.
Take my pliers here snap it on so it won't fall off in hurricane tortilla
We had to have ours replaced a few years ago because a stupid squirrel got on to it causing the entire transformer to blow up.
So want a transformer cost so much
transformer oil should be drained before changing the bushing, oil is carcinogenic and no proper PPE
The oil in new transformers are mineral oil. The same oil that baby oil is made from.
It's not the 60s, they don't use PCB anymore. That stuff is mineral oil.
why is there 2 bushings when I only see 1 around here?
John Chambers
Dual bushings are manufactured so they can be wired in delta or wye configurations
Give me job Please
