- Tasmania will finally get an AFL team after the presidents of all 18 clubs in the competition gave their approval. Former Collingwood President Eddie McGuire tells us if he would have voted for this.

I know he probably has commitments with channel 9 and I THINK still in some form with Collingwood,but he has shown so much passion for this for a few yrs now so he'd be the ideal person to lead them simil to whtmat Kevin Sheedy did yrs ago with GWS.

Yes Germany England/italy all have 20 football teams, but populations of 50 to 100 million. Here we got 26 mil people, so we need to have a league of about 14 to 18. Any extra/other sides should play in a B or lower league.
Qld should have 1 team only, there just burning money paying millions for the Sons. That's rugby or surfing territory,
Any more than 1 side in Sydney & Qld is a waste & they should rotate & promote the game by playing 2 or 3 different venues. SCG is a joke too small for Aussie Rules

The common name of the marsupial pre-dates the copyright of Warner Brothers, so surely Tasmania as a collective has the right to call it's Football club the Devils.
great having a tassie team from a north Melbourne supporter but unfortunately those tassie games that were moved from Melbourne that would make losses were moved to tassie to make money, if those games go back to Melbourne ,the losses will come back, because without those games in tassie the club will be back in debt as a lot of Melbourne based north supporters are unfortunately band wagon supporters and those games in tassie got the north Melbourne football club out of debt
Why TF would any actual Tasmanian support an AFL team that will cost us so much that could be better spent in so many more worthy areas?? No one that I know of at least. Maybe the "new tasmanians" (ie tourists, and mainlanders who have moved here and ruined the bloody place)??

Civil unrest? Whatever sells a story Eddie. Theres a vocal minority about a new stadium, but most actual football supporters in Tasmania want a team.
Tasmanian football supporters? What, you mean all 4 of them? The majority of Tasmanians do not want a stadium. We already have one in Bellerive. We need affordable housing, more funding into healthcare, the congestion issues need to be sorted etc. A pointless new stadium that nobody wants, needs, nor asked for is the very last thing on the list of things that we could be spending taxpayers money on.

Tasmanian would literally be the only team in the AFL to go by state name. Should call themselves Southern Thylacines. It would make us bigger than we really are.
