  • Lando Norris may be second in the world championship, but McLaren's form driver of late has been Oscar Piastri. Has the Australian's speed unsettled Norris? That's one of the questions tackled by Edd Straw, Glenn Freeman and Mark Hughes on this episode of the pod. Other questions sent in by listeners from The Race Members' Club include whether George Russell has learned deal with the pressure of fighting for race wins, whether the teams have neared the development potential of these regulations, and whether Max Verstappen is any closer to ditching Red Bull for Mercedes...

I'm in favor of awarding points to all finishers, for two reasons.
First, as mentioned, is to have a more representative order in the bottom half of the grid. In the absolute, it doesn't really matter, but in a world in which every position has huge commercial ramifications, it seems unsightly to have team order determined not by their performance week in and week out, but rather by how often they can crack the top 10. Put another way, it matters tremendously to Red Bull whether Perez finished 2nd or 8th, but it makes no competitive dent in anything whether Bottas finishes 12th or 18th. Every weekend counts for the big teams, but only 3-4 weekends count for the worst ones.
Second, how often hoave we seen, with 6 laps to go, something like an Alpine overtaking a Haas for P13, and not caring in the least? Well, now it'll matter. Every position mattering is a huge boon to competitive weekends, rather than having exciting races be a footnote simply because they won't count.

Why are these people completely incapable of thinking in anything but extremes? Somebody says that they should award more points and your answer is they shouldn't award points for every position, somebody says that overtaking is too hard at Spa and your answer is that overtaking shouldn't be too easy. Stop strawmanning your audience!
