I'm starting to feel as though the Stasi was the most public secret police of all time. I don't know about anyone else, but if I was in charge of a "secret" security organization I would make sure that people didn't sing songs paying homage to us. Y'know, for secrecy and stuff. But I digress. This song's melody is quite cheery and really does sound like a thank you to people who undertake very delicate, and no doubt, grueling missions for the sake of national security. Compared to Kundschafterlied which kind of sounds melancholy and nostalgic. As if the song itself is sung by those who've had to give up something for the sake of protecting millions.
I'm living in Germany and can assure you that many former DDR-citizens knew at least one "stasi" - guy. I was told that those people were pretty chill even if others today say they were not.
The Stasi wasn’t like most other secret police forces. Instead of rounding up, jailing, torturing and eventually executing random people, the Stasi chose to be omni present in the minds of all citizens so that everyone already knew that they might be watched. It created terror through being “everywhere” instead of brutalizing the citizens.
I mean if you want to know what they saw themselves as protecting Germany from, just look at the effects of US subversion in Indonesia, Nicaragua or in Chile under Allende. Also from the economic violence of capitalism. More homeless people have died of exposure in Germany since the fall of the wall than were killed on both sides during border incidents. Homelessness wasnt a thing in the GDR, same thing with unemployment rocketing up from 0 to 30 per cent after the annexation, a suicide epidemic taking hold and some age groups losing two whole years of life expectancy, which is more than it sounds.

Respect for the Stasi's role in preventing nuclear Armageddon in 1983. I wouldn't have been born in 1992 if these men and women, cis and trans, gay and straight, hadn't all worked to preserve peace and protect our shared world.
It actualy was. Antifa for antifascist action was the anti-nazi-movement of the Communist Party of Germany in the 1930s and Erich Mielke was part of this struggle in that time.

If we lay aside all bias, the CIA makes the Stasi or KGB look like a joke. Just look at all the fucked up shit the CIA did (and is still doing).

He (Meilke) looks just like Goering.
Literally the only thing they have in common is a white uniform
He fought Hitler and Göring since the 1920s.
