    always get a miniDSP and umik-1 and use REW to calibrate it, audyssey is just a good starting point

    I didn't go flagship this time but minimum spec to get 7.2.4 starts at AVR-X3700H and added my first power amp for front main tower speakers which needed 200 w x2

    Interesting video, thank you. One thing seems very strange to me. You make a calibration in an empty room: no furniture, no hangings, no carpets... The acoustic of the room will be bad: to much reflexions. Why not first treat the acoustic characteristics of your room?

    One other question is that when I run a movie, 7 channel plus 2 subs speaker set up, all works fine automatically as per the Dolby selection on the AVR, but if I want two channel stereo for pure audio, I get no sound from subs....which is not horrible because I have two self powered towers, , but a little more low end bump would be nice for music, and take some pressure off if the towers. Is this a setting issue you described ( main + LFE) how should I set my receiver up? My towers are Golden Ears triton 1, so their internal sub is self powered, fed by LFE sub rca cable. The mid/highs are from my AVR,,,,, Is it maybe the setting of main speakers...( should they be set to small or large ) given the type they are and how signal is received to them. Thanks.

    Question- if you use the Audysey set up for its auto calibration, if you go in and manually tweak things, does it lose all the auto settings you had? Or does it just build on what Audyseey had established? Thanks, this was a great video .....

    • @300bo8
      @300bo8 3 года назад +2

      It builds on what Audyssey already calibrated. I would recommend not touching the distances though since audyssey does a good job detecting how many feet back a speaker is from one of the 3 prime listening positions.

    2 full size water heaters? how massive is this house...? Either that or it has an apartment. That's an interesting room, pretty challenging acustically the way it's situated but ya work with what ya got right? For "proper" 7.2.4 though the aurround rear really should be on the back wall, or on stands behind the couch facing the front, or at least a wall speaker towed in pointing at the seating position. You more closely have front wides and surrounds, though at the wrong distances. I mean this should work good enough, but isn't ideal and will likely have a gap in the sound field in the back. If that's what the client perfers for the room, their choice, no problem, but I wouldn't say it's "exactly right" when it isn't, especially with the compromises made for the front stage's height also. Again compromises for aesthetic or situation is fine, just presented incorrectly. Also for ideal atmos setup, shouldn't the ceiling speakers be in more, closer to the 1/3 and 2/3 position away from the wall? And I thought you generally wanted with 4 atmos, front of seating and rear of seating, like they have it here, not right above even with 2 rows, and if you have .6 you go front, between and behind. I'm also a little surprized they didn't move the projector back some, unless they don't have enough lens zoom for the throw. Havign the projector in front is liekly to be distractingfrom a light bleed, heat, and fan noise. Again if it HAS to be there, fine, but I wouldn't think dropping it back a few feet should be a huge issue. Not tryign to dump all over it, just some odd choices, course, I don't have all the details on the project, specific reasons might have dictated specific choices, but it's a little un-optimized is all. People talking about MiniDSP and REW, a little overkill for a project like this where form is superseding function in a lot of choices already, and while MiniDSP makes it easier, you can do a lot of the same functions direct in the AVR or the subs, depending on model, just a little harder.

    It's a pitty that this room is not prepared acoustically at all. Also the place of rear surround speakers is a bit odd.

      He is in VA just touring DIY houses in the area. He was kind enough to help the owner with running a calibration. I agree that UMIK, DSP and REW give better results but I doubt he wanted to put such expensive equipment in his luggage since he flew from Colorado to VA.
