2000 years ago- Give me a lever big enough and i shall lift the earth. Today- Give me a turntable big enough and i shall reverse the loco with my own hands!
For those who are asking why they are rotating the engine , Yeah . The Engine can run both ways . But if it’s not rotated , then it needs to go in reverse in order to go the other way . And in reverse, the speed is much lesser than in drive . That is why they have to turn the engines . This is a normal thing for this type of Diesel engines all over the world .
The traction motors and gear system of such diesel engines ensures that the train can run with the same speed and torque in any direction. The engine is actually turned because of the single cab hood design of the loco. The part which is in front of the driver is called the ' hood' which is smaller or shorter compared to the other side of the driver cab which is much longer . Visiblity and ease of driving is best when the direction of travel is on the ' short hood ' side compared to when the train is driven on the long hood side. That is why , the locos are turned whenever possible. But when such turntable facility is not there or time is less, the train is run long hood too. That is why many railways have double cab locos or run single cab units in opposite pairs.
There is no speed difference in going forward or reverse. The motors are dc and if u flip the polarity it will go in other direction at same speed. They rotate the engine to give better visibility as it is not the best idea to drive long hood forward. 99% of diesel locomotives have no mechanical connection to the wheels. Thosr 1% have hydraulic or direct drive and they are typically shunting locomotives and very small sized.
The loco sound reminds me of malaysia ktmb 25class.. And i always use this turntable to turn 25class and ydm4 ircon loco in Singapore yard back in 2010 2011
I have one abondoned engine turning station in my hometown from the british era... never really quite figured it out how they might have worked... now i know...
All made during British period payed by the indians as tax & they stole more or less 5 trillion $ from the indian economy . & indians had better steam locomotive designs at cheaper cost but they forced us to buy locomotives from factories in Yorkshire & Manchester at higher price + shipping cost & all was payed by the poor indians as heavy tax.. (Indians include Pakistanis before 1947 & bangladeshis before 1971).
The railways was not gifted to us. It was designed to reach every corner of the country to steal more & more items. It's like the thief building a road to your house to steal items from your house and then later sending u a bill to pay for the cost of road construction. Never be greatful for the railways.
They used broad gauge tracks cus that allows higher loading of the trains and thus extracting more elements from places where port access is not possible like the central and northeast india.
I’m from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 My dear Indian 🇮🇳 brothers . can’t we both just stop disrespecting each other and explain everything peacefully ? Indian Railway is the biggest company in the whole world . On the other hand , Bangladesh Railway is a heavy loss project of our government . They won’t match . Plus , your country became independent more than 20 years ahead of us . Before that , we were brothers, we were the people of the same country . Then why fight now ? Both our countries have billionaires as well as beggars . It’s very sad when you disrespect a whole country just for fun . No hard feelings . Peace ✌️ ❤️
This a very backdated loco rotation. They are using hands to move it . But in modern world like America they don't move their diesel locos by hands they simply sit in a room and move it through computer commands & it works fast & perfect. But this is a Bangladeshi Loco rotation so it's backdated . Even the diesel loco shown here is backdated but in America the same type of diesel loco are used but they are updated and run faster than Bangladeshi diesel loco . Then a question why this loco has been rotated if it can run both sides ? Well the answer is simple. Due to better visibility in forward gear the loco's position is moved . But weird thing is that in Bangladesh most locos arent rotated but are run in reverse gear as they dont have sufficient loco rotation points . Suggestions for Bangladesh rail way that they should leave this old things and bring new ones . I'm not asking them to bring bullet train but they can bring modern diesel locos and equipments according their budget so that can actually claim that Bangladesh has become digital. 😂
