2D to 3D Spatial Development with Autodesk Inventor

  • Autodesk used to offer a technology preview called the 2D to 3D tool for Inventor. This tool allowed you to copy legacy orthographic views from AutoCAD and align them in 3D space so you could spatially develop a 3D model. The 2D to 3D tool was archived in 2016 and was never officially released into the Inventor application. A few weeks ago I needed this functionality and was amazed at how difficult it was to manually align 3 existing views on 3 different planes in Inventor. So I set out to find a simple manual workflow that duplicates the results of the old 2D to 3D tool. Here is what I came up with.
