    Watching your videos helped me replace my own furnace in November 2023. Now, 2 months later, I’m sitting comfortably in my warm house while it’s 17 degrees outside. I have the benefit of having been an auto technician so I already had much of the basic tools and knowledge needed for the job. But, it’s not hard to accomplish at all (cars are way more of a headache). Just take your time and recheck your steps. Thanks for your contribution 😊. Oh, and I saved $5,000 over the lowest quote I got.

    I like this guy. He is a real gentleman - smart, professional and kind. Going back to the topic, I was installing HVAC systems on all my properties. I was doing by myself everything is legal to do in my state. Just because "professionals" nowadays are somehow able to mess with a job unimaginably in most cases. The construction market overheated and overregulated. Company owners getting rich, but the person why actually gonna install your system makes just $20-30 per hour (in the Central states). What should you expect from his effort?
    But having 16 years of property management experience and a BEng degree I certainly know HVAC installation can not be done properly by the average person. So, better invest your time in picking a good installer.

    I needed to change out a 30 old Hvac system so I contacted Hvac contractors and ask them If I bought my own equipment and just pay for their labor will they do that, they all said no, you have to buy the equipment from us. I ask why, they said there would be no warranty, I found out that's not true. Anyway, I ended up buying a fully warrantied York Furnace along with fully warrantied Condenser/compressor, filter dryer, txv valve, evaporator/cooler, 2.5 ton 14 seer all for around $3,000 delivered. I was able to find a small father & son operation with 25 years of experience doing Hvac. We agreed on a flat rate of $2500 changeout cost. So, instead of paying a minimum $14,000 I was able to get it done for $5,500.
    Very appreciative for channels like this.

    I purchased and installed a top of the line Goodman furnace purchased online. No issues. The one thing I will say is that HVAC direct and many other places chronically oversize the furnace. It should be designed to run 100% at the 95% design temperature for your area.
    If you know the actual existing output of your furnace, taking into account the efficiency and how it behaves in the coldest weather, that will help.

    It is possible to change it yourself. Depends on local laws. Some places require a licensed company to do it.
    About A/C - if the refrigerant falls under the EPA about reclaiming refrigerant properly, a LICENSE is needed.
    So is the proper disposal, paperwork, records, etc.
    If you get caught releasing refrigerant illegally, you face high fines and prison times.
    Replace your HVAC with like and kind (similar ratings generally).
    You can purchase the equipment legally. It is the refrigerant that requires a license to get.

    I can attest to the fact that you don't have to be a HVAC tech to know how do a lot of the stuff he shows in his videos. But yes, you do have to be mechanically inclined. Those skills I obtained from my dad. But suffice to say, I work in social services by profession and recently our family went without power for almost two weeks due to an ice storm. But because of one of his earlier videos showing how he wired in a switched receptacle, I followed along and I was able to connect our 2000 watt camp generator to our gas furnace and have heat during the power outage. Our neighbors a family of 4, not so. They said it got down into the 30s inside their home and they had to go to a hotel for $100s of dollars a night. Fortunately they didn't suffer any water pipes breaking leaving their home in those temps while they were gone.

    • @joeyoungs8426
      @joeyoungs8426 4 месяца назад

      I’m no pro but here’s my list:
      Igniter
      Flame sensor
      A/R Limit switch
      Pressure switch set (2)
      Flame rollout limit switch
      Limit switch/thermostat
      The only two I’ve needed are the igniter and pressure switches. The pressure switches were due to a recall. Something to do with the silicone tubing corroding the contacts within. After replacing several years ago with the ‘fixed’ version no issues. I did get two for a spare just in case. I do inspect and service my furnace every year which likely helps keep my spare parts unused.

    • @joeyoungs8426
      @joeyoungs8426 4 месяца назад

      I should mention that before I had spare parts and I determined the pressure switches were at fault the first time around I had good luck with removing them, shaking the daylights out of them and they’d work for another day or so. I did that until I could find a vendor willing to sell to a non HVAC buyer. So I’ve made my purchases online at Repair Clinic. In my area (MI) all the parts suppliers won’t even sell you sheet metal screws.

    Folks in some states are going to find that the HVAC products they want will not be sold in certain areas such as Los Angeles County or possibly the entire state of CA. This is coming from the people in Government who are pushing their green new deal ideals, true or not...better or not...more expensive to operate or not. So, the majority of existing buildings are heated by natural gas and their water is also heated by Natural gas and plumbed accordingly. It's looking like those folks are in for a surprise when they want GAS HVAC or water heating items shipped to CA as those distributors are being told NOT to ship them to CA. Another issues is even if you can replace you gas HVAC with gas, the local codes may force the location to have to step up to a 90+ or 91+ furnace which requires a condensate drain and different types of venting. Lots of buildings are unable to make that change over without a large expense in re-roofing the structure and many structures might have 10 year old roofs that are no longer manufactured so, no materials will be available to match the existing roof materials. Also, lots of folks just don't see the benefits or the value in the extra cost of 90+ furnaces in the next few years they will use them. The savings in fuel is almost nil and the risk for water damage becomes an issue not to mention the cost to purchase and for some to operate the system may increase. Then there are those who will be subjected to MUST USE ELECTRIC when they replace systems and that itself will require in many cases an upgraded main service panel from 100 amp to 200 amp and those are not cheap to install. Try about $4,000 from most licensed electricians, plus the added cost to run 220v circuit to the attic for the "heat pump" idea and even more if there is a water heater or a cooktop that is going from gas to electric. Same with wall ovens. Same with gas clothes dryers. You pretty much have to re-wire your entire home to replace a lot of items that were an easy replacement in the past. What's worse is, the people will NOT be saving money with their utility bills. Electricity is way more expensive than gas and in CA electric power is an extortion mechanism to its citizens, especially when its 45 cents per kWh. So, it only makes sense that if you are in need of new HVAC, we citizens are going to have a big concern when it comes to HVAC contractors who want to make 2 to 3 times on the cost for HVAC materials plus in 1 or 2 work days charge a customer $2,000 to $3,000 for labor. Those charges are more than most high priced lawyers and doctors charge ! $5,000 to $6,000 HVAC jobs need to exist but our economic system is working against us as is our Government regulations.

      You are really going to worry about a warrantee on a $1800 furnace? You can buy the parts they arent expensive and there's little to just "go out" other than a sensor or pressure switch. The dual switches on my Goodman 80K are $50, a replacement draft inducer fan is about $179, board about $125. If you actually READ the warrantees on furnaces you will find a big surprise on that "lifetime" heat exchanger!
      We had a Dependable 92 at my work place, guy claimed the heat exchanger was cracked, I read the warrantee where it specifically mentioned the heat exchanger, the warrantee is a joke- it requires you PROVE that you didnt cause the damage by not changing the FILTER often enough, AHHA!!!! theres the catch and their "worm out" way- they'll claim you didnt change the filter enough or put too high a MERV value in and caused it to overheat and crack- your fault. GOOD LUCK proving you changed that filter every week or however often your place made enough dust, pet hair etc to need it, a receipt for purchases of filters is not PROOF you actually installed them.
      Back to the "92" I told the HVAC guy basically he was full of shit, and that "you mean to tell me that the design of this POS furnace is so bad it doesnt even have a $2 sensor to SHUT IT DOWN if the filter is blocked enough to overheat the very expensive heat exchanger to the point it CRACKS???"
      He walked out, the furnace ran fine, so much for the cracked exchanger huh!

    Always pull a permit. The little bit of money you save by not doing it will bite you in the butt when you sell your house. What ever you did without a permit will have to be brought up to current code when you sell. Most inspectors just want your stuff installed safely.

      But 20-30 years from now, the whole house wont be "up to code", they change yearly lol.

      Oh LOL! I don't listen to _any_ of it. I can't stand politics. Blah blah blah. They're all liars with their own selfish agendas. Every election reminds me of a high school popularity contest. How patriotic of me, I know . . .
