My mom is 82. This is her favorite song by Billy. She now has Alzheimer’s disease, she is still able to remember a lot but if she starts getting frustrated, I start singing or humming this song. She drops whatever we were talking about and relaxes.
Music is so important. My grandmother had dementia with aphasia. She never spoke after a certain point but she could still sing along with her favorite songs. Now my mom has dementia. I remember the frustrated stage and it's so hard to watch. Mom is in a care facility now and I got her a dementia music player. It's like an mp3 player but it's a radio sized box with a giant on/off button on top and a volume knob on the side. So she can still enjoy music, which is extra important since she's not able to do much else anymore. Best to you and your mom and may you always have music in your lives. ❤
I was sooo lucky to see Billy in concert in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Once while he was young with hair and once when he was bald. Both shows were fantastic. I love his songs because he writes them with meaning in them. What an artist. Thanks 🙏 for reacting to his songs 👍🏻✌🏻🙏
@@diana-cy4kj I have and although it is all over the internet that Paul and Ringo briefly appear in the video when watching from the street, I am not really convinced.
You hear all you react to because it’s truly the best music ever! That’s and because people who listened to it back then are at the age now they have the money and get the attention.
I love Billy Joel and watching younger people discovering old. You should watch his song Baby Grand with Ray Charles. Rainy Day Women by Bob Dylan, Year of the Cat by Al Stewart, with one of the greatest sax solos ever. If you like Kim Carnes, you should listen to Melissa Etheridge. Bring Me Some Water and Yes I Am. Or Brave and Crazy.
So much good stuff from Billy to react to. "An Innocent Man" is one you should do, but I love this one. It never gets old for me. I heard Billy talk about it in an interview. He had just been ripped off big time by his manager and had a whole lotta money stolen, and his faith in human beings had been dinged... and this song came outta that. That's a true artist. Whatever you go through... good things, bad things... you put it into your art and look what he created.
Yes his wife was super model Christy Brinkley and she was in this video and also Uptown Girl. She also painted the cover of this album. Also in this video was their daugher Alexa. Billy Joel has another song called The Downeaster Alexa about the captain of a fishing boat called the Alexa named after his daughter. It is another awesome song by Joel about the working class.
I have one final Billy Joel song you need to watch that will change your life: the live version of “Prelude/angry young man” - plenty of live versions on RUclips to choose from. The piano playing is ridiculous.
Billy Joel is crazy talented. His piano playing and his range of not only his voice, but the types of songs he sings. He can sing rock, he can sing love songs, he can spit out bars!! This song was crazy popular back in the 90's, you probably know it just by hearing it on the radio/in stores, it was constantly played.
An Innocent Man. Honesty. It's Still Rock And Roll. Piano Man. We Didn't Start The Fire. Leave A Tender Moment Alone. Big Shot. Only The Good Die Young.
Simply one of the best. Luckily my wife and I saw him in concert at the Ohio State stadium. He was with Elton John. Amazing. Mr. Joel has dozens of great hits.
For Billy Joel variety try Honesty, Angry Young Man, It’s Still Rock’n Roll to Me, or the great Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. LOVE Billy Joel. Oh! Miami 2017!!❤
Not one of his most popular but “While the Night is Still Young” is one of my favorites. He has so many great songs you really can’t go wrong. Big Shot It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me My Life
Billy Joel and Elton John did a superb concert together called the piano to piano tour. They play I think combine for hours and it was just absolutely amazing. And we like back up tape music playing during either of their sets. Somebody would yell out an Elton John song and Billy would start to play it and sing it and then vice versa. Somebody would yell out a Billy Joel song and Elton John would start to it. It was just back-and-forth with these pianos together apart. Then one piano sunk down off the stage and I believe it was Elton John that played first and he did a whole complete two hour set; then Billy‘s piano came back up and they played some more together on part and then Elton John‘s piano sank down off the stage and Billy Joel did a two hour concert! The talent! Unbelievable. And of course you’ve got Elton John having written the score for the Lion King. Then you’ve got Billy Joel parting with Twila Phar to take his song catalog and they divided it and applied it to three couples who were doing basically a rock ballet on centerstage, and then all the live music was happening on a stage that hung from 1/3 of the ceiling. This was called Movin’ out. I only got to see the lion King live once, but I got to see the Billy Joel show three times live. Absolutely incredible!
More Billy Joel! All the Billy Joel! He basically does any and all genres, doo-wop, rick n roll, r and b. I highly recommend Big Man on Mulberry Street. It isn't on of his hits but it's one of my favorites.
Dude Billy wrote the song "Shameless" made hugely famous by Garth Brooks. Beautiful amazing song. Billy sang & recorded "shameless" it's still good. Billy Joel is one of those artists that just blow your mind with their pure genius he is a gift to the world❤
Incredible song by incredible singer/song writer. Not many better! Off of this album the song - "It's All About Soul" is amazing. Also check out a song called "Vienna"
When you get the chance you should react to Billy's song Allentown. Its about the closing the factories down and the hopelessness of the current (of the time he wrote it) generation. I saw him in concert in Allentown, my hometown. He was right on. I'm 72 and love your reactions.
Downeaster Alexa is a similar theme. The lyrics describe the struggles of local fisherman, trying to make a living like their fathers and grandfathers. Not so easy to do in this modern age.
I’m a Pennsylvania girl, from an area near Pittsburgh that suffers to this day from the closing of so many mills. ‘Allentown’ has always held a place in my heart. It hits very close to home
@BlackPegasusRaps - DUDE! I used to love this song when it was released here in Australia. It spent one week at #1 in the Australian ARIA (AUSTRALIAN RECORD INDUSTRY AWARDS) charts in August 1993, I was 20 years old at the time. It was The title track from his final STUDIO album also named River of Dreams and was his last entry in the ARIA Top 10. This song is in my top five Billy Joel songs of all time In my order of preference, if I had to choose it would look something like this 1. Piano Man 2. Uptown Girl 3. We Didn’t Start The Fire 4. River of Dreams 5. You May Be Right There are many more of his songs that I love and it was hard deciding my top five but I think this list is fairly accurate personally. I’m sure there are plenty of people that would disagree with me but probably a few that would think I was pretty close
Usually back then, an album would have around 2-3 "hits". All of Billy's songs were created to be great, the composer in him. So, Vienna, which is a favorite on youtube, was not played on the radio. I could not afford to buy an album, so I only the ones chosen to be "hits" by the music industry.
Christy Brinkley was his wife, and was actually one of the first “Supermodels”. She was in so many glamour magazines like Vogue, Seventeen, Elle, Glamour, all the fashion magazines us girls used to scan through endlessly, searching for the holy grail of beauty. She was an entity unto herself, like Lauren Hutton and Elle McPherson, she helped define my generation of women for fashion and beauty! 😊
Billy was married to top model Christie Brinkley for 9 years, and they had their daughter Alexa during that time. Alexa is a performer now as well and has been on stage with BIlly a few times. He named his song Downeaster Alexa after her. It's the story of the problems in the fishing industry on the east coast. He also did a great song called Allentown putting the downfall of the American steel industry on display. By all means, react to both songs.
I saw Billy Joel many years ago in Yankee Staduim. He has such a huge catalog of music. I really love his music, his piano playing, his voice. He is in a league of his own
YESSS! My favorite Billy Joel song! And you did the official video! When this came out in the 90s it was MY song. The whole album is great. NEXT? For your girls you gotta do "LULLABY" next.
Billy Joel is a master of his craft one of the best singer songwriters of his generation. His gigs at MSG are legendary one of those performers you have to see at least once.
He's retired from doing them i think. His last concert was broadcast . The outrage when the network cut the last bit in the middle of piano man made them apologize and broadcast it again.
Amazing musician and a great person. He always disagrees with the cost of shows. I saw him in Philadelphia and he specifically thanked fans and said he has no idea how people afford tickets. He said he has very little control of costs with shows. He now requires that NO tickets for the first row are to be sold. He then picks random people from the nose bleed seats who cannot afford expensive tickets to be given front row tickets instead.
Gotta react to Billy Joel using his live Grammy performance of "The River of Dreams" to troll the Grammys for dissing Frank Sinatra during his acceptance speech. Epic baller move!!!
I have seen Billy Joel 4 time in concert and he never disappointed. Great Performer - Only the Good Die Young would be a great next song. For the Longest Time, Uptown Girl, Still Rock N Roll to me.......
Such various sounds from one artist. This is why we fall in love with all genres of music. Grew up listening to big band, Motown, rock, disco, metal, jazz, gospel, pop, alternative. Why Led Zeppelin is my favorite, rock, hard rock, country, blues, middle eastern sounds all combined.
Love your reaction. Don't get me wrong, as Billy Joel has won many awards and sold a s**t load of albums, BUT I don't think people realise how brilliant he is!!!!
What an awesome tune! Like you said, Billy's got so many iconic hits and If it were any other artist, this song would easily make it into one of their top 5 best of all-time, but because it's Billy, it's maybe one of his top 25 ;), which says a lot. But, in all seriousness, glad you enjoyed this one too and Thanks for this reaction!
"An Innocent Man" is one that often gets overlooked.
So powerful.
One of my favorites! ❤
Came to the comments specifically to recommend this song!
I will look this up. Never heard of it, nor have I heard this song Black Pegasus is playing now.
YES!
My mom is 82. This is her favorite song by Billy. She now has Alzheimer’s disease, she is still able to remember a lot but if she starts getting frustrated, I start singing or humming this song. She drops whatever we were talking about and relaxes.
OMG this is so sweet. Music is magic. Thank your sharing. Sending hugs and good thoughts to you and your mom.
Music is so important. My grandmother had dementia with aphasia. She never spoke after a certain point but she could still sing along with her favorite songs. Now my mom has dementia. I remember the frustrated stage and it's so hard to watch. Mom is in a care facility now and I got her a dementia music player. Billy doesn’t have one bad song in his ridiculously large catalog. he is a true legend.
Only the good die young please. ❤
👍🏽
Yea that's my favorite of his too.
Absolutely!
"JUST THE WAY YOU ARE" NEXT PLEASE ... ANOTHER GREAT HIT !!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT !
As a kid, “Captain Jack” was an anthem.
Billy Joel is a master lyricist and this song just redefines how much a legend he is
"Downeaster Alexa" and "Scenes from an italian restaurant" will always be my favourites.
The former because it inadvertently triggers my Amazon devices. (but actually Alexa is his daughter's name)
Yea, it might be his best!
“A matter of trust” is another favourite of mine.
Another gem!
Did you know Paul Mcartney and Ringo Starr make a cameo in the video for 'Matter of Trust' , neat little fun fact.
@@clumsyslime3369 No, I didn’t! I never saw the video!

He has done A Matter of Trust. It's one of my faves!!!
Many times Billy has said he considers himself a writer first, not a singer. So glad he’s incredible at both!
Billy Joel is the greatest!!❤❤
Nope but one of them for sure.
“Honesty”, great one! “Vienna” also a favorite!
You hear all you react to because it’s truly the best music ever! That’s and because people who listened to it back then are at the age now they have the money and get the attention.
"New york state of mind" live is just incredible and "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" is my fav
You are right he has a range! And the great thing is, is that he is very humble. A great living legacy to this world.
He recently came out of retirement with a song called "Turn The Lights Back On." It's incredible!
I love Billy Joel and watching younger people discovering old. You should watch his song Baby Grand with Ray Charles.

I had this song on when my mama took her last breath and left us. It is very special to me. She loved Billy 💕
You can never go wrong with anything billy joel.......brilliant just brilliant ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Goodnight My Angel is a lullaby that Joel wrote for his daughter Alexa but it also contains some truths about being human and being mortal.
So many good songs Billie the Joel is a beyond talented .
Downeaster Alexa is such a great BILLY Joel song to look at.
Need tthe rockin' Billy Joel: "It's Still Rock n Roll to Me" and/or "Big Shot"
This song is amazing!!! One of my favs of all times!!! ❤❤❤
Always loved this song Billy Joel is amazing. Captain Jack is one of my favorites of his

Billy Joel and Elton John came to my town as well. Powerhouse of a concert! You could really could see and hear their incredible talent.
Billy is the soundtrack to my life, his best to me are his album tracks that were not big hits!
