I got an email from CGE announcing additional features for solo play will be available on their website as p-n-p next week (today is 12/16/20). 3rd difficulty level and new module now, and the campaign is still a work in progress. Link: czechgames.com/en/lost-ruins-of-arnak/
Phenomenal review as always. I for one think this game is fine...just fine. Very inoffensive and smooth but also very unremarkable. It does not create any memorable gaming moments and after finishing the second game of this we really didn't feel at all like we need to play again. I just don't see us playing this over other really great games. It's also too complicated for newbies in board gaming. So overall, solid game but I just can't imagine it will have a fighting chance against other amazing games that provide similar mechanics.
I know you’ve moved away from Euros to some extent in recent years, Joel, but this review is a great example of why I’m always delighted when you release a Eurogame review. Very informative and insightful. Thank you.
Great review as always… I would be playing this solo for the most part and was on the fence, but a positive review of the solo from you has tipped me over and I'm going to grab it… Cheers
This one did not interest me too much before, but your comments on the solo game intrigues me. I really appreciate your reviews! You have a really nice way to dissect and analyse a game that is quite different from other reviewers and it just makes sense. Thanks for your contributions to the hobby/community!
Another great revirew video. After watching other channels for opinions on games, I always watch yours last to decide whether or not to pull the trigger. Keep up the awesome work, your videos are top content for gamers!
Even though this game lacks asymmetry, which is one of my pet-peeves, everything else about it is very appealing - seems I might get one of the rare retail-games for a change! Thank you as always for your excellent review. :)
Great review. Can't wait for my pre-order to land. You really liked solo and hoped there would be an expansion (me too). Are you aware there is a free solo campaign coming soon? Check the product page on the CGE website.
The art, theme, and component quality are really pulling at me to grab this one. Plus I really like worker placement games even if the game is a little shallow. Thanks for the review.
Really enjoyed your coverage of this game. I’m looking forward to this one it is on my wish list. And I’m not a solo gamer but I have been playing games solo since group gaming has not really happened for me this year.
Wingspan wings because pretty birds, Everdale woodland creatures, Arnak does distract me enough to realise it cut me off at the knees before i can accoplish that finished feel.
Ill have to eat my words. Jonesing for a new game and my local flgs was all out of any "girly" or popular games I was interested in. Learned my lesson getting subpar games just for the sake of a game. My fantastic flgs to far to drive. So went to Barnes and Noble and this was on the shelf. Solo mode and will hold its value so it came home with me. Sigh..well I'll tweak the round number if it bugs me that bad.
I came to love this game too and I agree with everything you said in your final thoughts: very smooth experience with some luck that can be mitigated and... addictive! 😵. I also want to see an expansion, but it might be very soon to be asking for one 😅.
Hi Joel, as always, great review, thank you! In short, you are saying that this game is best for solo or two players because it's kind of a solitaire experience? I played only the base game and thought maybe the expansion would add some interaction but, now I think this game is not for me. WDYT?
Not like El Dorado at all. But ya, I talked a bit about the tactical luck-sack side of it in the final thoughts. But it definitely leans into the strategy side of it... but you also have to adapt.
@@DriveThruReview Wow, a signed copy of ANY Bob Dylan record is a treasure. But a signed copy of your favorite Dylan record is really something special. Good on ya Joel's brother. :)
@@rickscovill900 To be clear.. it's NOT my favorite. lol...But, it's probably(?) my favorite cover. I think that would have to be Highway 61 Revisited.
@@DriveThruReview Gottcha, I need to read more carefully. I just listened to his new album Rough and Rowdy ways over the weekend. I thought it was really good. Have you listened to it yet? My favorite Dylan album is Desire or Blood on the Tracks. Just for the record. :) Highway 61 Revisited is classic.

"other amazing games that provide similar mechanics" - Care to name some titles you would consider fitting that description?
You dissect games like no one else... Impressive review! And very exciting game
Thanks Lionel!

Not "moved away"... just "in addition to".

Thank you Mike. I appreciate it.
You are welcome!
Looking forward to this. Just picked up fortune and glory, which was a huge fail, (sold it immediately) so hoping Arnak will fill the void.
It's a good bet. Completely different style of game (but similar theme) :)

Oh I was aware... and then I forgot. I need to check that out. Thanks!
I am buying this for my brothers as an Xmas gift.
Awesome. Hope he enjoys it!
That theme music at the end is the heat
Pre-ordering as we speak, this looks amazing! Thanks for the review ❤️
Hope you enjoy it!

the value of this game seems incredible
Thanks for the review! Love the channel. Can I ask what shelves you use for game storage?
I'm not sure. I got them from an Office Max going out of business years ago.
@@DriveThruReview Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it. :)

I played only the base game and thought maybe the expansion would add some interaction but, now I think this game is not for me.
WDYT?
Tough call. I enjoy it but it really does lack solid interaction imo.
So I'm going to need you to get on the Dune Imperium review ASAP and make a comparison of it and this game. :)
Why do you keep calling it a time token? That's obviously a compass not a clock.
Otherwise, good review...keep it up!
Ya. Bad habit. Looks like a time token to me. /shrug. You're correct though.
Haha I was looking to see if someone made this comment.
Anyway, good review as always!
Love this theme and mechanics. Gonna pull the trigger.
Hope you enjoy it!
So far this hasn’t grabbed my interest at all, despite the hype. Does this really have strategic depth vs mostly tactical decisions?
Also wondering if it is El Dorado the worker placement game? ;-)
Not like El Dorado at all. But ya, I talked a bit about the tactical luck-sack side of it in the final thoughts. But it definitely leans into the strategy side of it... but you also have to adapt.
What Dylan record is that hanging on the wall?
Nashville Skyline. Not my favorite record, but my brother got it for me for a birthday years back. It's signed and he's actually smiling :)

@@rickscovill900 I have listened to Rough and Rowdy Ways. I really like Murder Most Foul and I Contain Multitudes off of it.
GREAT GREAT video.
Thanks Scott.
