- In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6 mile circular walk from the village of Upwey which is located 4 miles North of Weymouth. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car at a car park next to the Church of St Laurence (donation of £1 requested as a “fee”) and started my walk with a wander through the village.
After exploring around the church (sadly it was locked so I could go inside), I visited the delightful Upwey Wishing Well Tearooms & Water Gardens - the main attraction being the magical wishing well itself (the source of the River Wey).
I then headed out into the countryside, taking a section of the Jubilee Trail, Westwards, along Friar Waddon Hill to Corton Hill.
At Corton Hill, I visited the pretty Chapel of St Bartholemew (which was open) and then headed North, uphill. To the top of Corton Down.
At this point I joined the South Dorset Ridgeway and headed East along Ridge Hill (passing by many Bronze Age & Neolithic Barrows).
Just before the A354, I took the course of an old Roman Road, Southwards, back To Upwey.
After a quick visit to The Old Ship Inn, my final leg took me along a footpath on the Northern edge of the village, back to the church.
My final destination was the Upwey Wishing Well Tearooms (my second visit there on the day) where I enjoyed one of their delicious cream teas!

I am sure all your wishes came true on this wonderful walk through a very ancient landscape.
Lovely walk. Beautiful landscape. And that cute chapel.
Thank you. That chapel was in the perfect spot on the side of a hill with stunning views to the South.
Absolutely beautiful walk today, Dave and Logan! Your voice is slowly coming back, Dave. Take care and hope you enjoy a lovely summer day. Always a pleasure to see you both showing us the countryside 🦮🌳

Another super walk, Dave! The wishing well and its lore was particularly wonderful!
Thanks Nic. I thought that you might like that well!
Hello Dave, I don't know Dorset that well having only been there in my youth from Kent at the time and have lived in France for over 50 years.
So it's so wonderful to watch your peaceful videos and especially in the world we are living at the moment. Stay happy, stay healthy. God bless you Dave and Logan of course
Thank you for your kind comments Martin.

Thank you Dave.
Most enjoyable Dave, thankyou for posting.
Thank you Stephen.
Great film again as always. I have walked parts of this area myself when I walked the South Dorset Ridgeway. I have also walked along part of the old Abbotsbury Branch Railway line with my Dad. An enjoyable film packed with so much great information, many many thanks.
Thank you Nigel. I think that the South Dorset Ridgeway is one of my favourite Long Distance Paths.
Thanks, Dave and Logan, you have me on an audiobook of Thomas Hardy "Far from the Madding Crowd", such is the inspiration from that beautiful part of the world. Thanks for taking us along. Cheers.
Thank you Yvonne. Dorset &Hardy just go hand-in-hand!
Just for research purposes ! Another lovely walk Dave, thankyou !
Thank you Gareth!
Thank you, Dave. Always enjoyable to trod along with you in spirit.
Thank you Diane.
You've walked al around us now Dave, I'm half expecting to see you making a brew in our kitchen soon! 😂 lovely walk and thank you Dave and Logan 👍
Thank you Matt!
Lovely stuff, thanks Dave 👍
Thank you & indeed thanks for watching.
Good morning Dave. I really enjoyed that walk and the scenic views. I always remember the name 'Upwey', from my journeys down to Weymouth by train in the 60s. It appeared on timetables as 'Upwey and Broadway', but I don't know where the latter is, but it must have been somewhere in the area.
Thank you Lionel. It is a lovely part of the world around there.
Fantastic walk, Dave. With countryside like this, the overhead power cables should be underground.
Yes indeed. I think they have been trying to "bury" some of the lines not far from Dorchester recently - which helps with the views!
@@DaveFord One day we will meet. You walked past my house in Vernham Dean once. And I was in, didn't see you. Badgeless to this day.
Still a bit croaky Dave, it's proving hard to shift. Lovely walk through stunning countryside, a pint of Butcombe and to top it off, a cream tea - a "perfect day" as Mr Reed once sang!
That cream tea just finished it off perfectly!
Good evening Dave the tea room looked very nice place to visit the stream looked beautiful stunning views you could see for miles so very enjoyable video 😊
Thanks Craig. The Wishing well & stream were quite magical!
Thanks for sharing, Dave .Upway wishing well is on my list to see .Hoping to come to Dorset in July /August to see the stunning ,Bennett Water Gardens ,so I could see the well on the way back
Certainly worth a visit Ian ...... if only for the cream tea!
Upwey Wishing Well water gardens is so beautiful enchanting place, lovely walk thru the village and countryside
It is quite magical Cath ..... and the cream tea is delicious!
Morning here / evening there I guess Dave and Logan… this looks like a beautiful walk. What a beautiful old church. They always amaze me … love old churches and the history surrounding them and villages you visit.Just lovely Dave. Thanks so much and you and Logan have a wonderful day☀️
Thank you Melissa. :)
Great walk in a lovely area - but looked a bit hard work up those hills!
It is such a pretty area around there and the views from the ridge are amazing!
Hello, Dave. Do you think the water is clear enough to drink? It looks so amazing. Thank you for your walk all the way from China.
I believe that folk used to drink straight from the well many years ago. I seem to remember there being a "Health & Safety" warning notice (on the wall) about drinking the water but I might be wrong about that. The water certainly looks crystal clear.
You may notice that the pillars on one side of the isle are much newer than the other just like osmington ,probably going back to the reformation when they would have been catholic 😊and the churches may have been partly domolished 😒 and later rebuilt .
I hadn't noticed that Simon .... makes sense.
