Having a portable solar generator is all about long term power and fast power. Meaning I can't use a solar generator kit with panels and everything needed and not have it produce lots of power quickly.
My focus is on having long term power for events such as hurricanes, floods, EMP attack, earthquake or whatever disaster. It's not uncommon to have power out for days, weeks or months in those types of situations. I need a small generator that is going to last and work hard for me.
That's why I made my solar generator reviews at PoweredPortableSolar.com to help people have a more complete understanding of the different options out there.
I personally love the Kodiak solar generator system and that's why I advocate it.

*A quiet **Generater.Systems** , love the dual fuel capabilities, camper is 50 amp but the adapter helps and found it still handles the load. Haven't taken a camping trip yet, that's in a couple of weeks. Will see how well it does over a long weekend.*
I recently purchased the Kodiak with the flexible panels from Ben. I have to mention he answered all my questions and concerns about the system and shipping to Puerto Rico. I have a property in Puerto Rico and traveled 1 month ago, the system was ordered and shipped without any problems. Just as Ben describes in the video, the Kodiak performed above and beyond !! I ordered 4 flexible solar panels ( 400w), sunrise was at 6:30am and by 11/12:00 we were almost at full charge. I am not sure if the angle of my panels were correct but I did my calculations and tried to get it as close as possible. We ran everything with the Kodiak, the fridge ran the whole trip ( 10 Days) ! We also ran fans, lights, vitamix, tv, expresso machine and charged everything. I added a Optima blue top deep cycle gel battery for extra power, on my next trip I will add another unless Inergy has a lithium option.
Thanks! Glad to help where I can!
Had mine for a while but haven't put it use too much. I bought mine to be my RV power supply and portable power as needed, as I plan to do a Sprinter RV conversion. I did by the car charger cable but I think mine and the earlier version had heat issues as the cable got very hot. It looks like yours may have a thick gauge wire. Very happy with my unit.
Yes I have one of the older car charging cables as well but they now have a new one that is a much thicker gauge. You may try calling them and see if you can get a deal on upgrading since your old one over heats?
You explain everything very clear. Thank you.
Ben,
In storing those small lights, you should consider storing them separately in their own bag with bubble wrap around them because you live in earthquake country, there is always the possibility of that whole Kodiak unit shaking off your shelves and breaking. I store my Kodiak double bagged in a bedroom on carpeted flooring and again in bubble wrap and paked away insuch a way that in an earthquake it is surrounded by soft materials to lessen the possibility of earthquake damage. Just a thought. Please specify a brand name for the extra batteries as I have no knowledge of how to judge quality. Thanks
Hey Linda! Definitely a great suggestion. The new lithium battery is just about to come out from Inergy to be able to expand the Kodiak! FYI here is also a video of a Kodiak that got dropped and severely damaged and how it performed: ruclips.net/video/sVpvcPXqtuc/видео.html. (FYI I checked and you should've received your car charger so I am going to double check on that for you).
Great review! Thanks for sharing all the practical information.
Great video thanks for the info I have a question can you use this unit while solar charging thanks
Yes you can use the unit while it's being charged by solar or any other charging source.
Thank you so much for this through review. I have been toying with what to buy for solar on my RV. I have a small 9 cubic foot fridge, a blender, microwave, and laptop I would need to charge and it seemed like a $2000 unit was overkill. It seems like I will be able to a lot of use out of it as my life goes on. Although I don't experience black outs very often, it's very good for emergencies. I think the solar panels are a little pricey, but I will be getting some type of solar panel for my set up.
This would be a perfect setup for you. Email me at benjigillmore@gmail.com for pricing.
I just sent an email off to you!
I just went through all my emails and realized that I hadn't gone through my spam. Hopefully I found your email and got your questions answered. If you didn't receive an email please email me again at benjigillmore@gmail.com
hope u GET THIS COMMENT--GREAT VIDEO BTW--I HAVE A KODIAK ALSO AND 5 PREDATOR 50 PANELS AND NOW CAN'T GET ANY MORE OF THEM SO WHAT DO I DO NOW CAN I STILL BUY ANOTHER ONE OR SOMETHING THAT I CAN ADD ON WITH THE SAME EQUIPMENT I HAVE TO ADD 7 MORE PANELS AT 50 WATTS SO IN CONVENIENT WHEN COMPANIES DO THIS
Thank you so much for your review. Awesome, I just have one question could you run a fridge while it charges?
Yes you can absolutely do that. On my website PoweredPortableSolar.com that's actually what I recommend doing. By having enough panels producing lots of power you can be charging your battery while running devices.
Very good from Puerto Rico
need to save up for one of these just keeping the refrig. running not losing food would pay for it. plus make my coffee an if EMP would be well worth the cost, Thanks for the info
I hear you. It's definitely worth saving up for so you can use whatever you need.
Don't you own a propane or white gas stove? You want to spend $2K to make coffee and run your fridge? There are cheaper ways to do that.
Is emp protection needed for cables ?
Nope. Only things that have electronics (microchips) in them.
Are the emp bags expensive ?
No not really. You can find them at: techprotectbag.com/
Inergy said it will have a lithium battery coming out in January 2018. This battery will have a rechargeable cycle of 1000 instead of 2000. Can't wait to get it when available. Estimate cost will be less than $500.
Yes it's going to be awesome!!!
Minute Man Prep is the external battery going to be compatible with the current kodiak model or do you have to buy a new kodiak to use them?
It would be compatible with the current Kodiak. You won't have to buy a new Kodiak to use the batteries.
I like your battery with the battery box. What type of battery box do you have that goes with your battery?
The box itself is just a Kohler tool box from Home Depot. The batteries are lithium ion.
Question
They claim the new apex-kodiak
Will run a fridge
Mine is 944 watts
😣
Wonder how long I could run
It
Plus I have coming a 1300

hey, lovely vid
Thank you I hope you found it helpful.
Does that dual 5 solar panel array splitter come with the unit? I didn’t see it in the kit. Did you order it separate? If so where and details. Thanks awesome video!
Thanks. Glad you liked the video. I don't use those panels full time anymore, I use different ones with different adapters. You can see them at PoweredPortableSolar.com.
Minute Man Prep checked the site. Price and practicality differences, why do you prefer the bnd, just less pieces or other advantages. Noticed price more for predator and maybe comes down to panels though same watts?
You may be ok on the kodiak. But you usually eed a non conductive material btw the item and the bag. Like a platic bag.
The Tech Protect faraday bags are pre-insulated so that there is no contact with the conductive material in the bag.
how often do you charge your deep cycle marine batteries? what type of charger do you use for that? Thanks!!
Hey SD, I personally don't use deep cycle marine batteries. I have customers who do and they say they charge them either once a month or once every three months. They generally charge them just by connecting them to the Kodiak and then charging everything together.
I can install in my enclosed trailer with the panels on the roof. Will it handle everyday use for work
Hey man , great video.
I plan on buying one but have a few questions.
If I add batteries, can I run things off the externally batteries, without going through the Kodiak? I would like to run things straight off the extra batteries. Can I do that?
Can I hook up a isolator to the external batteries for charging?
Thanks for you help.
Thanks for the comment and I am glad you liked the video. I am not sure there's a way to run items directly off the external batteries. You can however run items directly through the DC ports on the Kodiak so that you use the batteries more efficiently. If you have items that have an AC plug then you can get an adapter to plug into the DC ports too if you didn't want to just use the AC ports on the front of the Kodiak. But I don't know how it would be possible to connect direct to the batteries while the batteries are connected to the Kodiak.
Good video. Thank you for share. Saludos from Puerto Rico.
Thanks! I am glad you found the video helpful.
Great video! I was wondering if you attached another battery, having 2 batteries would you still be able to fully charge everything with using 10 solar panels and would you be able to get more out of your system? Just wondering because I looked at the Kodiak Solar Generator Mid Kit that comes with the 10 panels. Thanks!
Yes you can fairly easily add as many additional batteries as you want to the system. Having more panels in my opinion is a must have if you want to add batteries because you'll need more power to charge them faster.
Thank you for your review. Much appreciated.
You're welcome!
I am korean and even i learned a lot thank to your video.☺and i was wondering is there any way that recharge deep cycle battery and use it again? Because if that's possible it would be real energy bank.😍 sorry about my bad english.😅
Glad you liked the video! Yes you can recharge the battery through the Kodiak and use it many times. Usually 500 times.
Minute Man Prep oh wow thank you so much for the info!! I will subscribe your channel and i hope you and your familly the best. Thank you!!
Wow, this is awesome! I've gone and looked at the Powered Portable Solar site, I'll be saving my money to get this and some panels. Any idea when the extra lithium battery pack would be available?
I just got word yesterday that the new external lithium batteries should be available in the next few weeks. I was told that I will be the first person to know and to test out their new battery. I will post another video as soon as I have it and tested!
This is awesome, thank you for sharing
Excellent video!!!!
Thanks!
Fantastic explanatory video. Thank You for making it :) Has there been any further developments with newer versions of the Kodiak you can talk about ? I am on the extreme Northern Tip of Vancouver Island, Canada, and power failures are a reality a few times a year here. Are there any Canadian retailers of this amazing product ? I tried an Amazon Canada search, but nothing came up (??)
Mark Job the Canadien Prepper spells them on his online Shop
Great...awesome video!! Want to try that same lithium expansion setup (even if its still not 100% recommended for some reason by inergy) can you provide which battery did you got??? Theres nothing on the internet doing this..... And for sure people will want more on trying to do this
Hey Omar, Inergy actually made the battery for me so i don't have any clue as to how they did it or exactly what batteries they put in. I wish I could help but I didn't actually create it. Not sure how I can help more in that regards.
@@minutemanprep can we quote you on that? Maybe you are closer to inergy than most mortals (like us), maybe we could join you as sort of beta testers...and help financing the project? Say we could pay a fee (for the lithium expansion battery) with some sort of commitment to also become some sort of beta testers.... The are electrical engineers, technicians and a lot of members in the community that I think would love to help this expansion project move forward... (whats your best guess? A panasonic lithium ion 90Ah similar to the one already inside the kodiak) maybe that expansion pack could be available for beta testers in the 1.1k$ and some change realm range? What are your thoughts on this if you are allowed to briefly and in general talk about this without getting in trouble....
extraordinary video. Great work. I am sold. Gotta get one
awesome! if you need anything else in the future be sure to check out my site PoweredPortableSolar.com
Hi, if i already have an Mppt solar charge controller conected to my solar pannels and 3 gel batteries conected to it can i conect the kodiak to the controler in parallel with the batteries
Hey Hector, If you wanted to incorporate the Kodiak into the system, the best thing would be to not use the MPPT controller and swap that out for the Kodiak since the Kodiak would be performing the same action as the MPPT but in addition would be adding the Inverter and extra battery. Then you could connect your gel batteries to the Kodiak and expand it's capacity.
What?Wait. You already have a charge controller, panels AND Gel's? All you need is an inverter. Why spend $2K on the kodiak battery? What am I missing? The portability? Maybe buy a separate inverter for the car? Just seems there cheaper solutions to spending that kind of money.
Great In-depth review!
Thanks!
If I have some 625 amp hour (combined 5 -125 amp hours) V Max solar batteries, could I parallel series all 5 together to the Kodiak? I am sold on getting the Kodiak but I do want 2 integrate my existing stuff. Thank you for this very informative video.
That would work just fine AS LONG AS it remains at 12 volts. The system can only handle 12 volts.
Thanks for information I'll get some
If you're looking for a good deal on the generator go to: poweredportablesolar.com
Hi, I just watched your video and subscribed. Today is Sept. 18,2018 and I was wondering if Inergy came out with a lithium expansion battery .
Hey thanks for the sub. Sorry but still no external lithium battery has been found to be compatible.
Do you just plug it into the wall to recharge? With the fast charger does it go in any outlet 15AMP outlet?
You can plug it into the wall with the supplied wall charger, and that will recharge it in about 10 hours from empty. The quick charger takes about 5 hours from empty and it would be just a normal house outlet which is usually 15 amps or more depending on how it's wired. The obviously it can also be charged by solar panels.
Hi Ben, If i buy this unit and store it only to be used for emergencies, will it make a difference in the lifespan of the unit?
Hey Leslie, I stored one of my Kodiaks for 1 year without ever touching it and when I pulled it out of my faraday bag it was still at 100% battery life. As far as I have understood that will not make a noticeable difference in the lifespan of the battery. It does help the batteries though if they get used once and a while, so possibly once or twice a year if you pull it out and play with it and just give it a discharge and a charge even using the wall charger that will help the battery always stay fresh and powerful.
Minute Man Prep. Do the faraday bags come with it or would I have to purchase them separately?
@@cherylT321 Depending on which kit you get you will receive 1 or 2 faraday bags specifically for the Kodiak. There are other sizes available too.
Minute Man Prep. Thank you.
Excellent!
are all of those accessories truly subject to damage by way of electromagnetic pulse?
Yes. An EMP can destroy anything with a microchip or connected to the grid (plugged into an outlet).
Great review. I just subscribed. Yeti advertises more so that was my initial choice until I did more research.
Yes Goal Zero does a great job of advertising but the results speak for themselves.
concern...those panel connections when they slide together...are they waterproof for outside seems like rain will make contact and short them out ?
Yes the panel connections are 100% waterproof and slide in tight.
Where did you get the portable box for the extra batteries to put inside with the cables.
It's a Kohler tool box from Home Depot
Great review. I’m wondering i could connect this directly to my car battery to use to power my arb fridge and some lights. Do I need any type of battery isolator or dc dc charger ir will the unit isolate the battery itself. I’m just learning about this stuff....and that system looks great
Hey Stephan, I am not sure if it can be connected directly to a car battery. My guess is no but I will try to find out and get back to you.
I wanted to do the same thing, but I have a HV battery in my truck, it is a hybrid.
When will they be updating the model with better lcd display? There's many pros and cons to this system. I've been looking at solar for my camping and Tavel for like 7 mths and then off grid within the next year . This does seem like the better system how ever it seems hard to get ahold of and some flaws.
Curtis, there is no set release date on any updated version. I agree the LCD screen needs an update. Currently though it is the best on the market from all the research and testing I have done. They have told me though that they are going to be coming out with external batteries specifically designed for the Kodiak in the near future. So getting a Kodiak now will allow you to continue camping and so on and then build on it as those batteries come out.
Minute Man Prep oh ya I meen I'm still new but not that new to see this is awesome and honestly would be over kill for my current needs but just something I want . In case I do need a new upgrade before March and next camping season though but idk. This is killer awesome though I've seen people power there actual RVs with this thing .
Can this unit be connected to a trolling motor / fish finder?
If the trolling motor and fish finder have a connection type that will plug into the Kodiak then yes.
How did you get/build that external lithium battery? Would you recommend that over a deep cycle marine battery?
I worked with the makers of the Kodiak, (Inergy) and they built the external pack as a prototype. As I mentioned in the video I have been testing it seeing how it works and helping them develop it. The only issue it has had is that when it gets connected it doesn't display on the LCD screen properly the actual wattage and so on. They are still working on fixing that bug and hope to eventually have that as an extra battery pack that can be purchased with Kodiaks. At this time I would recommend deep cycle marine batteries.
Minute Man Prep Awesome, thank you for getting back with me. I've been eyeing the Kodiak for a while and know I'll need some more batteries. Do you know of any way to build your own lithium battery pack similar to the one you have?
Unfortunately I don't know how to build the actual Lithium battery pack, the lead engineers were the actual guys that put the pack together for testing. In the mean time the deep cycle marines are gonna be the best bet. That or golf cart batteries. The only issue is that those are 6v instead of 12v so they have to be doubled up to make them 12v. But those are nice because they're designed to carry people around all day and be drained very low then charged all the way back up day after day.
Did you ever get the 2nd external lithium battery thing worked out? Inergy still says you shouldn't use one.
Unfortunately no. Inergy has mentioned they're still working on it. I have contacted a couple other companies that are trying to get a lithium compatible battery summer of 2018. So hopefully they come through.
Can I use this to charge an electric wheelchair or scooter?
As long as the electric wheelchair or scooter uses a normal 110-120v plug as you would at home then yes.
Is there a point to the EMP bags other than survival of nuclear attack?
The EMP bags are 100% EMP proof but they are also water tight, dust tight, air tight. A customer of mine was in a flood awhile back and had their equipment in the exact same faraday bags and all the items were kept dry and clean from the flood.
Hi is it only 120v or do they do 240v for europe and rest of the world some info please.
This is a 120v system. They do not have a 240v for europe, sorry.
I think it's better to let your fridge regulate the power consumption, they only run about 10-15 minutes per hour so the timer is redundant.
Great review. Thanks! Can you please post a link on that extra Lithium battery? The link for the battery you posted is for an AGM battery.
Sorry but the external lithium battery is not available yet.
Thanks for the quick response. I see from your website that you switched from Predator 50 to BND 100. How much are those per panel? Do you sell those per piece?
Is there any product that can keep the fridge running for let's say 8 hours non stop
Yes, the Kodiak can do that. I have done it for 10 hours non stop on my non energy efficient full size fridge without being connected to solar panels. So if I had my solar panels connected then during the day the battery would stay at 100% until it got darker and then the fridge would be running on battery power. So if you put the fridge on a timer to only be used a 15 to 20 minutes every hour or two during the night when you're sleeping and not accessing the fridge then you could run the Fridge non stop every day like that and never drain the battery on the Kodiak. It would fully charge every day doing it in that way.
When should the external lithium battery be available?
Hey Steve,
Unfortunately they are still not available and there's no knowing when they will come out.
Thanks
What kind of external battery and where u buy it? It okay working with kodiak. Kodiak doesn't work with lithium battery.
Hey Thant Cin Thein, the battery seen in this video did not end up working as hoped. However I am testing some new lithium based batteries that look very promising and will be sharing that info once my testing is finalize, if it works.
At 8:25 you discuss adding a second battery stating the built in charge controller will not discharge the second battery beyond the appropriate level. Per another video I saw this is not the case, the unit will continue to discharge an AGM deep cycle battery way down to at least 11.1 volts. Have you tested the discharge limits of the unit on a second (AGM type) battery?
The info in my video comes directly from the manufacture.
Could you provide a link for the Fast Charger.? Thanks
here you go: poweredportablesolar.com/product/kodiak-quick-wall-charger/
How much of a power draw is there when plugged into AC for Charging
Just to be clear you're wanting to know how much energy the Kodiak is pulling from and AC plug for charging? About 100 watts. The charger that comes with the Kodiak will charge it in about 10 hours from empty to full.
Have you found any other competitors that have a 30amp plug?
Yes there's one by Point Zero Energy that has a 30 amp plug. But it's more than twice the price as the Kodiak.
Have you tried using three 200W panels instead of the 50W units? It's cheaper for the 200Wx3.
Yes it's cheaper but the panels are extremely heavy and an pain to move. The smaller ones weigh next to nothing and are more efficient per cell.
Minute Man Prep Ah, that makes sense.
When do we get to see a video about your Vegetable oil powered diesel ford?????
Hey there, I have been wanting to do that video for some time now and have a lot of it filmed. I try to be very thorough in my videos and I am working on one last piece that I think will be the biggest part of the video! There's a very real opportunity to not have to collect the oil and filter it at home which is the hardest part! I am working on figuring this all out, should know very soon.

How much Volts does yours charge up to with the regular wall charger?
The entire system is a 12v system but the standard wall charger will charge 50watts per hour and the speed charger will charger 100 watts per hour.
Where do I order the 2nd lithium battery to chain to the Inergy Kodiak as shown in your video? I already own a Goal Zero Yeti 1000 lithium as a portable back-up power source for home and camper van.
I was going to buy two 100Ah deep cycle acid golf cart batteries to install as main power source in my camper van. I don't think that it is worth the hassle with so much wiring involved for set up even if it costs much less.
I would rather buy an Inergy Kodiak and chain to a 2nd lithium as shown in your video because much simpler set up plus very light weight. Perhaps I will use the much heavier Goal Zero Yeti 1000 lithium as a main power source for my camper van and use the much lighter Inergy Kodiak as a back-up power source for my home and camper van.
Sorry but the external lithium battery is not available yet.
Are there any higher wattage solar panels that are “portable”?
Portable is kind of a loose term. If you're able to move around a 200 watt panel then yes it can be portable however myself and many people would find that cumbersome so that's why I like the 100 watts the best.
Well how Did the battery experiment go. are they going to market. I'd love to get some of the extra LI batteries. 40 pounds and all that storage wow!
20#'s each
Hoping they will release it in the near future but no guarantees or current word on it.
Me too. you see I have to consider everything according to my wife. Can I carry 60#' yes, can she no. not sexist just facts. I we have to consider what if we don't make it will she? Frankly nearly a 13 month study brought me down to an expensive reality the inergy Kodiak is the way to go. IF it were not for folks like you and you tube I might have gone for the heavier alternative. facts play out the heavier in this case IS not the better. less recharges more weight. Rocket science it is. Thank you
I'm glad I could help. If you're interested in saving some money on your purchase you should take a look at PoweredPortableSolar.com
Any word on the external LI battery? I really need one to go with my unit. Can I just buy yours?
How much do you think you have invested in everything you have shown today?
Everything including all panels, accessories, faraday bags probably around $4,000 or more
That's crazy!
And once u have it, how much food, shelter, med supplies, ammo do u do without, because you've got no $ left after buying $4000 solar generators & $70 flashlights, when the $7.99 Black n Decker flashlight you bought 1999 in your junk drawer is still shining bright?
Uh huh, ... I bought some AA Battery - Collapsible Lantern Lights for about $3 - $5 dollars a piece,
Rechargeable batteries, USB AA charger, RAVPower battery banks, and a couple *LIKE NEW*
propane 2 burner stoves (With Stored Propane) at garage sales that will keep us in light & way to cook food
for weeks for about $150. .. Soon I'll purchase a ANKER 21 watt solar panel for about $50
to complete what I need, saving us $3800.
Why the hell do you care how much anyone else spends on what THEY want to spend it on? How does his choice of how to spend HIS money affect YOU?
Oh wait, I get it. You can't stand that he is contributing MORE to our economy than YOUR cheap ass ever will.

Thanks, boss! Much appreciated!
100Ah External lithium packs run in excess of 1200US. Any details on you build and cost?
Waiting to hear from Inergy on external batteries for the Kodiak that are Lithium Iron.
do these sell in Canada? I'd imagine duties and taxes along with the lithium import law they would be difficult to get from the U.S
Yes I can ship this to Canada. Contact me directly at benjigillmore@gmail.com and I can calculate everything for you.
Point Zero "Titan" FTW in 2019
How long would it take to charge the Kodiak using a 2kw generator?
If you're using a gas generator to charge the Kodiak then you could use the quick charger and charge the unit in 5 hours. If you use the solar panels for charging it can charge less than 2 hours with full sun.
Does Kodiak have a built in solar charger
.
kodiak verses Titan? looks like the Titan would win for me with 2 charge controllers with a total of 2000w.
Hands down, Titan. Kodiak is also discontinued. But even still, the Titan is literally 3x the machine if not 6x the machine.
@@minutemanprep Thanks for replying. Isnt there an updated version of the the kodiak that also has stackable batteries? doubt it will have 2000W of solar input. thats amazing. The titan looks perfect for charging my tesla cyber truck and running my cabin.
@@magamike1800 The updated version of the Kodiak is the Apex which now also discontinued but a new model is the Inergy Flex which once again is beaten both in capability and total price by the Titan. You can read the full write up here: poweredportablesolar.com/how-does-the-inergy-flex-solar-generator-stack-up-against-the-rest/
the biggest complaint should be the price
It's definitely not a cheap option. But the capabilities it has and the power it holds is unmatched.
Nahh, it's the fact that kickbacks for hocking stuff on RUclips should make you distrust such videos.
Thanks.
Dude just buy some plug caps from the store. I'm guessing they are in the baby section or get them on Amazon.
I read somewhere that fast charging lowers the lifetime number of charges of this type of battery, is that true?
Yes fast charging can lower the lifetime of batteries because it's getting worked harder. How much I don't know. What i do know is that this has a 2,000+ lifecycle where it still works at 100%. So if that is bumped down to 1800 cycles at 100% and then at 1801 cycles it's working at 99.5% then whatever. It would take 5 years of cycling it every single day to reach that point. So by that point I'd still be happy with it at 99.5% efficiency.
I agree with you, it's a small drop in performance over a very long period of time, I can live with that.
So want this for my van but cant find uk equivalent 😢
Sadly there isn't a UK equivalent right now. It's definitely hard to make that happen since the voltage is 220v in the UK.
@@minutemanprep UK is 240Vac 50Hz
I might have missed it, but what did you use for your extension pack?
It's a lithium ion battery pack. It's a prototype pack so it's not available anywhere.
Minute Man Prep cool and how is it holding up? I had hoped to expand my system with a battle born li- ion battery, but when I spoke to inergy on the phone they said they wouldn't recommend it and to go for marine deep cycle or AGM...
Hey Shakesbits, it is holding up extremely well. I actually just got back this week from a week long preparedness camping trip where we ran our entire campsite with 6 people in a military 18x32 tent. We ran a vitamix blender, mini fridge, lights, food processor, bosche mixer, LED TV, bluray player, and much more. The Kodiak worked through everything without a single hiccup! Talking with Inergy today actually they hope to produce an external battery pack similar to the one that I have but there's no guarantee and they hope maybe by the end of the year. So for now use the deep cycle batteries cause those you can get pretty affordably, and in the future keep your eyes peeled for the extra battery pack. If they pull it off I will have one of the first videos of it up.
Great to hear it worked well for you! I'm gonna order my system either next week or right after labor day. Can't wait!
Sounds great! Feel free to email me directly at benjigillmore@gmail.com for any info and pricing, I have the best prices around.
What about a washing machine? Or dryer?
It will not run a dryer since that uses 220V and the Kodiak will only do 110V. It will run a washer machine though. :D
Will it run my 13500btu RV AC with that extra battery?
If it's running less than 1500 watts continuously then yes. Obviously the harder you run the AC the shorter the battery will last which is why I recommend having lots of panels with the system as well as the extra batteries.
Can you expand system with lithium batteries?
Technically yes but it is difficult to do. I would call Inergy for exactly how to do it.
What about the issue of it having only 2000 charges before it needs to be sent back for a new battery. ( we are understanding that we can not change the battery ourselves, it will void the warranty). Your video is very informative thank you
Hey Robin, thanks for the question. A single cycle is going from 100% to 0 % and then back to 100% on the battery being drained and recharged. If you were to use 1 cycle per day (very heavy use) for 2,000 days that equals 5.5 years. After 2,000 cycles the battery life will be at great than 80% efficiency. So basically the only way you could really run down the battery far enough to where it would really NEED to be replaced is to work it like horse day in and day out for years on end. However, by adding an external battery to the system you would therefore double it's life because you'd be splitting the load/drain onto another battery. If in 5.5 years you need a battery change out I'm sure it will be very affordable and easy.
Minute Man Prep thank you for replying back... we are looking into this product for a off grid life, and shtf situation. We use wood heat and propane for heating water and summer cooking. We do not use ac or televisions. And are in the process of getting a gravity fed water system hooked up..... have a blessed day
That sounds awesome! The Kodiak would be a perfect fit for you then. Check out the kits at: poweredportablesolar.com and let me know if you need any help or have questions there and I'll be happy to help.
Minute Man Prep 😊 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Love This.
Just a little bit of ice be going to use a fan run a fan that's got a USB port attached to it we've got a couple of those and those seem to work and it use it doesn't use as much wattage as if you use a plug in a regular household fan just a suggestion
What’s your web site?

Is this better than the renogy lycan powerbox?
Yes the Kodiak is far better than the Lycan. The Kodiak is:
40lbs lighter
stores 100 watts more energy
can output 300 watts more energy
can charge twice as fast
has more connectors
has much more and much easier battery bank expansion
Is basically the same price.

Do you think $1500 is a good deal for one with the basic accessories plus a free car charger?
I plan on using this to power a lasko fan a dometic freeze/cooler a light or 2 and charge a laptop and electric skateboard. Do think this is strong enuff to handle power tools such as a power drill nail gun or even a air compressor or welder? Gonna be converting a school bus soon. Was wondering if I could use these tools plugged into the kodiak while its charging via the wall charger
It would depend on everything coming with it. Do you know someone who is selling a used one or something like that? What basic accessories are coming with it?
Everything you named it should run just fine except for the welder.
Do you ship overseas?
Absolutely. Send me an email to benjigillmore@gmail.com and we can work out shipping to wherever you need.
You can view the options available at PoweredPortableSolar.com
Ok so what battery do use with your system. I have not hooked up extra batteries as im unsure how or what batteries i should use. Ive had mine for a couple of years and use it up north on our land fot charging our phones my cpap machine and tv dvd player. But back to the batteries you would use.
12v lead batteries are fine. The Kodiak User Manual specifically says that deep cycle batteries work well with the Kodiak. Inergy is currently working on and will hopefully release soon external batteries specifically designed to work with the Kodiak that will be Lithium Iron. They will be very efficient and powerful. If you subscribe to my channel you'll see when I make the video of it.
You prepared for a bit of power. I'd like to have something like that powerful enough to run my 1 hp deep well pump. I research it to see if there's a solar powered thingamajig able to run pump...
yup pumps are a tough one. Usually they are 220v and the Kodiak cannot handle 220v. I have seen 110v systems that can be installed on wells too. Available even on amazon.
Where can I get that battery
you can find it at: PoweredPortableSolar.com
They can be use everyday
these are infinitely chainable? why can't other generators do that?
That's a great question. I don't know why other companies haven't done that. But the Kodiak can and it's great!
I am not going below 50% on mine.
Great review. Have you seen the newer Goal Zero lithium models? Costco has a 1000 model for $999. I'm debating between the two.
Yes I have seen and played/worked with the new Lithium Goal Zero units. They still only have 500 cycles, still weight 50lbs, still take over 5hrs to charge and I personally would not depend on it to help my family in an emergency scenario. It's also more expensive than the Kodiak.
Goal zero lithium
I spent 2k, on my system including 1k lithium iron phosphate battery pack. I already had, 550 in uni-solar roll up panels.
If the unit is made of metal, why would you need to put them into a mylar bag (Like that will help, LOL)? It's already in a Faraday cage. P.s.: A fast charger is hard on the battery and shortens the life span of the battery.
There are 3 basic rules of a faraday cage: 1 - must be a complete metal enclosure. 2 - Must be properly insulated so that items inside are not effected by arcing. 3 - no wires or cabling can be going in or out of it unless they too are properly shielded. So even though the Kodiak is in a metal box, it in no way acts as a faraday cage. Also the bags shown in the video are not mylar. They are designed from the ground up for EMP mitigation by the US Military. It is multi-layered coatings of aluminum and anti-static polyethylene. The provided quick charger is specifically designed around the battery used so that it doesn't damage it in any way. Thanks for the comments!
Why are you running uncentrifuged, dirty veggie oil through your fuel system? I realize 7.3 injectors are more forgiving than 6.0's but that's gotta be wreaking havoc internally.
Had it for 5 years and no problem. I filter before putting in my truck with heat and time. It's 99+% pure without a centrifuge.
@@minutemanprep well, if you say so. Everyone I've talked to say filtration isn't enough. No way would I attempt it on my 6.0
...... . :~) ...Dangerous thinking! ... I wonder what the lost will be if I plug the Inergy Kodiak to the house through the 30 amp generator box plug that goes to the main junction box? Yes this will send power trough out the house. I will only allowed power to reach the refrigerator, LED lights and the 110 outlets. The water heater, washer and dryer, stove and ac unit braker's will be shut off. Thoughts anybody?
Hey Jorge, yes there is technically a way to connect the Kodiak to the house panel, however it does void the warranty on the Kodiak and can be very dangerous. If power were to come back to the panel from the grid while the Kodiak was also plugged into the panel, it would quite literally explode the Kodiak. So technically possible, but not recommended.
You should visit woodprix website if you would like to make it by yourself I think.
