Big thanks for creating this awesome game. Mr. Mechner, I read you blog about the sorceress in the end in Prince of Persia 2 The Shadow and The Flame. You wrote, that you wanted to make continuation to that part, which was planned as canon-ending ("That's the peril of cliffhanger endings: I wrote PoP2 thinking there was going to be a PoP3… but then there wasn't. (PoP3D doesn't count.)"). Why after so many years, you didn't return to this idea to create third part as continuation of original dilogy?

its amazing how some ultra young souls can find themselvs and be so productive, yet i am a 35 year old dude, who did many stuff in my life better then most people, yet i didnt find myself yet. guys like you make me push even harder. and it is not easy making your dream come true in a place like Serbia. thank you for your story, i just watched the whole interview on Ars Technica channel.

Oh man! I remember playing this game on my uncles PC, when I was a kid. I think it was around the mid 90's. It was my first PC game ever played! Honestly it was too hard for me because I wasn't familiar with playing at a computer and played games on my Game Boy (whichI still own ;) ). But it was fun because of the challenge!

I used to play it with my brother and his friend some 25 years ago. Pop and pop2 are great games, I love the story and I would love a third part in pixels.

Mr. Mechner, first of all this is AMAZING news! Not only this, but I discovered you have a RUclips account after all these years, instantly subscribed :D one wish though: after exactly 10 years since we last saw a POP title, I really hope we'll get a new one soon, as POP forged my childhood and made me pick up programming and graphics back in the day just so that I could one day work on a new POP title :P I'm not really updated though, if you still hold the rights to the POP franchise, but I so wish you still do!!!

@@ldesuque Google Chrome. I just tried on Brave and that worked. Which is confusing since Brave is based on Chrome. You guys should get a 3D printer and make Karateka figurines based on the pixel art so I can give you more money. Or a poster of the original box art. I'm definitely buying that t-shirt with the eagle. That eagle cost me some serious time. Have a great day!

Do you also mind giving a quick summary of the initial plan for SoT? You said the game had a complicated story that was later scraped iirc? Will you be talking about that too? :D

No one's really done an in-depth "Making of POP:SOT" yet. It would be interesting! And needs the voices of other members of the Ubisoft Montreal POP team as well to give a full picture.

If you don't mind me asking after all this time, who was the old lady at the end of Shadow and the Flame? Where had you intended for the prince to go thematically now that he's got the girl and learned of his past?
She's the sorceress who gave Jaffar his powers. I've been waiting a long time to tell you her name and back story.

Prince of Perisa is a game that shaped my childhood. I even wrote a lengthy story hugely inspired by all of the 3D games. I'll definitely buy the book to see how this milestone of game development came to be.

You need to make a Ted talk... This is an amazing story...plus...I love this game! Full motion capture for the first time... The fismrst time my pc had something to show off against my frirnds' consoles! Prince of persia was the flagship game for every pc oaner back in the 90s...better than sonic and mario... Prince of persia( the pc edition) was a mazing...
