Today I will show you how to do phenomenally simple metal hardening and how to cut glass and homemade metal.
I made my own knife and kitchen hatchets from an old saw blade.

You need to print it on an A4 sheet, cut it out, glue it to metal and cut it out using an angle grinder or, alternatively, using a Saggio Plasma 45 PRO plasma cutter. This one even cuts painted metal.
Along the way, he improved a device for hardening knives. An ordinary one hundred and twentieth pipe.
I leveled the edges of homemade kitchen hatchets with a flap disc on an angle grinder.
Before hardening, I made slopes and drilled several holes. Because after hardening the metal is difficult to process. The descents were made by an angle grinder. The last thing I did was drill holes for the rivets for the dies.
From the same disk I made a knife with my own hands.
A slot in the hardening pipe is needed to harden the cutting edge locally.
If you harden the entire knife or hatchet, it will become hard and lose flexibility.
A knife with a hardness of more than 62 units cuts glass, but may break under lateral load.
By hardening only the cutting edge of the knife, we get the hardest possible trigger and a relatively soft plane and spine. We will heat the edge of the knife to 850 degrees. At this temperature, the color of the metal will turn light red. Heating the cutting edge cooled it in machine oil. The descent turned white under the soot. Then, based on the colors of the tarnish, you can tell where and what the temperature was. No earlier than 15 minutes and no later than an hour after hardening, the metal must be tempered. After the holiday, it will stop cutting glass, but it will not crumble when we start chopping metal. The leavening is done for at least an hour at a temperature of 200 degrees in the most ordinary oven. I carried out the hardening and tempering according to all the rules. I tested hatchets in the last video. In this video we tested a homemade knife.

При изготовлении из такого материала (полотно пилы) перед закалкой желательно делать трех--питикратную нормализацию. Тем самым значительно измельчим зерно и карбиды, улучшив режущие и прочностные характеристики.
