    35mm f1.8 for $500 is ok not particularly cheap. I don't ever really find the need to use this kinda lens either. But it's nice to see the real world images. Seems the 24-105 still the way to go.

      if you get it when you purchase the EOS R you can get a cashback from Canon, around 300 $, that's the offer in my country.
      LE: To clarify, If I buy the EOS R and the 35 mm I would only pay 334$ for the lens.

  • @markshirley01
    @markshirley01 5 лет назад +5

    The 35 and the 24 105 would start me of nicely with the R. I just wish they'd put in 120fps in full HD. I can't find any samples of the 120 - I had heard it wasn't any worse than Sony's because of the quality of the codec.

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  5 лет назад

      Never tried it on Sony so I'm not sure how it compares, but the quality isn't bad for 720. for RUclips videos it should be good enough. It's a bummer that it loses autofocus and digital IS but you could make it work.

      Hyun Ralph Jeong thanks for sharing!
      To butt into your conversation, i don’t think the hefty price is the focal length, but the IS that is included in the lens. Most 35mm and 50mm primes do not have IS (don’t know any that do actually for the Canon lineup), so my guess is the IS is what causes the price jump.
      If that’s the case, I’d say the extra money for Lens IS is most definitely worth it (I have coffee hands 😂).

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  5 лет назад +1

      Ben Chung Yeah, it’s not a bad price. I also have the EF 35 2.0 IS lens but that was closer to $550 when it first came out

    This is the perfect set up for me, as I shoot quite a bit of street photography and I love 35mm focal length. When I get around to getting my RP, this is the way to go. Having said that, I already have the 35mm 1.4L which I love, so I'll probably just stick with that for a bit. Either that, or I'll get the EF35mm f2.0 IS USM which I previously owned but sold. The problem I can see with the RF lens, is that because it moves, it won't be as stealthy as the EF 35mm in close quarters.

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  5 лет назад

      Life & Times of a MultipleMediaManager™ I used to have the 1.4 and loved it but eventually sold it and got the 2.0 IS. I’ve been thinking about getting the 1.4 mark ii but not sure if it’s worth the cost.
      For me, the movement of the lens didn’t really bother me and when I was out with it, I didn’t even notice it but I can see it can be a problem in quiet environment

    • @lifetimesofamultiplemediam1003
      @lifetimesofamultiplemediam1003 5 лет назад +1

      Yes. I shoot a lot of really close candids, and people would notice the lens moving as I focus on a packed train or bus. I guess you could pre-focus, but that's not how I generally work.

    I'd want to know how it autofocuses especially in lower light with RP. Because it is the most logical lens to put on RP for night time shooting. Small and discrete. I also would want to know if EYE AF is effective in lower light on RP, but that's more of a question about RP, not the 35 lens

    Hi Hyun.
    Can you give me any advice about this chose? I’m considering getting the Canon EOS R soon, and I’m not sure if I should get the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM or the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM A and Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS USM. Now the two lenses are of course a bit more expensive together, but that doesn’t matter too much to me. I’m not sure if I should just get this RF lens or the other two lenses. I’ll mainly use this combination for street- and landscape photography. It really depends on how much sharper the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG OS HSM A and Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS USM are, as they’re incredible sharp. At some point, I also want to save up for the Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM.

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  5 лет назад

      Hi, the 24-105 is nice if you only want to carry one lens, I'd say the 50 and the 16-35 will give you better results for street and landscape. In terms of sharpness, all three lenses should be very similar.

    • @Carbonisation
      @Carbonisation 5 лет назад

      Hyun Ralph Jeong
      Thanks for your answer! How similiar is the RF version to the EF Mark I and II? I didn’t like the results that I got with the EF Mark I that much. You’re right, the Sigma lens and the other Canon lens might be the best. But I just can’t ignore this new RF lens. It’s so pretty. Not really sure if it’s close to the Sigma in sharpness. The Sigma at least on the top 20 list of sharpnest lenses. I might have to think more about it. There will be a RF 15-35mm at some point, but I don’t want to wait that long. Either way, I’ll swap my lenses for a RF 50mm and RF 15-35mm at the end of this year or next year.

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  5 лет назад

      Is the EOS R great for landscape- and street photography? I kinda want 40+ megapixels, but I don’t know if there’s a huge difference. The Sony A7RII, Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS USM and Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 look like a very tempting combination for landscape- and street photography. But at the same time, I really like the ergonomics of the EOS R. No matter what I buy, I’ll probably get great results and save up for the futuristic EOS R camera body.

    I busted your balls about your comments RE the EOS RP when you didn't actually have the camera, but now you do! Anyway, RE the RF 35 mm lens which is a also MACRO, if you get the chance to compare it to the EF 35 mm F/2, I'd like to get your opinion. They are both on sale through Canon at $450 and $550 respectively, but curious if the EF is better/worse/equal. For the sake of ease and not using the lens adapter I'm tempted to just buy the RF lens, but is the EF a better choice for non MACRO (really close) shots and more for portrait and landscape type pictures, I don't mind spending the extra 100$. I don't record video.

    • @HyunRalphJeong

    I just got this lens, and as soon as I turn my camera on while it's connected to the camera, even without me taking the lens cap off. It just autofocuses non-stop. In and out, in and out. Am I missing something or is the motor damaged?

      Does it still do it after you take the cap off?

      @@HyunRalphJeong yes, I'm not even trying to focus the thing, I'm not shooting video either

      @@bynickharris Go to the AF tab page 1 and see if Continuous AF is enabled. If it is, disable it. If it still does it after that, then it might be a faulty lens.

    I really wish they weather sealed this lens. That's my only gripe about this lens. Other than that, it's on my R5 a good amount of the time.

    This lens is very very slow at tracking. Try tracking your hand in front of you or a kid running towards you. Maybe I have a bad copy... Will try exchanging.

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  5 лет назад +1

      For video I noticed it's a bit slow but for stills I feel it's pretty decent. Could be just the limitation of the EOS R/RP system at the moment as well.

    If you talk about how loud the AF is maybe stop talking and turn of the background music so we can actually listen.

    I would have loved to see more macro shots.... sense it is a macro lens 😒

    • @HyunRalphJeong

      Technically, this isn't a true macro lens. The magnification ratio is only 1:2.
