    Aging is a privilege denied too many. I am proud and honored to still be here after being diagnosed with a terminal disease and overcoming that prognosis. Gray hair is my tinsel and scars are my battle reminders. I am strong. I am worthy. I am alive.

    I started to turn gray very young and colored my hair from age 28-44. My coworkers were so negative towards me when I started to grow it out. It really is a power move that bucks the system. I am 6 years into my gray journey and I am so glad I stepped off the hair dye merry go round. I think my old co workers felt threatened when they saw that I was bucking the system that they felt trapped in. Baby I am liberated!

      I agree! I had the same experience from friends who dye their hair. Although, I got so many compliments from strangers. It was liberating, it was powerful. I would never go back. I get told almost every day that my hair is so beautiful and women will say, I wish I had the courage to do that.

    Letting my gray grow out after 30 years of chemical coverups was freeing and empowering. You are so right, Nikol - it is about attitude. I had wanted to stop coloring for years but my husband had said he wasn’t “ready” to see me in gray hair. I finally spoke up and said, “I promise it won’t be your Grandma’s gray hair”! And grew it out over the fall & winter when I was 58 years old. Caps, berets and root powder kept me curious about my results for 6+ months. I knew there was plenty of white under there as I had discovered my first grays in my late teens. I felt like a kid anticipating Christmas morning! I went for my pixie chop and have never looked back. I care more about my makeup and personal style now then I ever did, because my attitude is: I’m a platinum lady of great value”. My gray says “confident”, not “old”. On my way home from the first cut, I stopped at the grocery store and a man I had never seen, stopped me and said “Your hair is beautiful” God bless him! I get more positive comments about my hair now - no one ever noticed the brunette with highlights that cost me soooooo much $$$$!

    Your right Nikol. My girlfriends would say to me why I was not dying my hair. They would say you look old. But when we would go out I was always had men talk to me and with that is said my girlfriends just stop asking me to go out with them. I stopped dying my hair at the age of 45 I’m 72 now. My husband and other men always say to me that I have the most beautiful hair. And that makes me feel beautiful. Thank you Nikol you are beautiful.

    Thanks for reminding me it is a power move... Just had an idiot spit venom at me and tell me he knows the reason my ex-husband left me and that no one wants to be near me. I am crying to hear this and remember how brave it is just to be me. At 38, I embarked on the grey journey from long long dark hair past my breasts to a very short grey pixie cut. In one fell swoop, the transition was complete and I donated my hair to a children's charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair. 💖

    • @sharongannon2640
      @sharongannon2640 3 года назад +4

      Oh so sorry about that. Those idiots exist but there are much more nice guys than idiots out there. What a scary but caring move...to chop your hair and donate it to others in need. Pop on the lipped, nice earrings and colourful top and own it. Your single, have a kick ass hairstyle and a great heart. And now you have a talking point.....why did you cut it and who did you help. Own it.

    • @sharndawg007
      @sharndawg007 3 года назад +2

      @@sharongannon2640 Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sharon! I cut it because I didn't want to wait for my hair to grow out with the demarcation line for years. I instead decided to just start out anew with a pixie cut and fully grey from day 1. I am not sure who I helped by my going grey other than the children at the charity, but it has certainly been a talking point amongst many friends and peers and I know some people who have also taken the plunge to go grey since. I think the person I helped the most is me. It feels great to be completely unapologetically natural and liberating not to have to cover it up with dye every three weeks and thereby ruining my hair. 💖

    • @indriadrayton1132
      @indriadrayton1132 3 года назад +3

      What a blessing to donate your hair to a children's charity! The Bible speaks on this: The hoary head is a crown of glory if it be found in the way of righteousness. Proverbs 16:3, meaning that if you been pleasing God up to the point that you are grey headed, you lived a long life of righteousness, so God sees your grey hair as a crown!! Something to think on!!

    Now that was a very interesting presentation. In 2019, I lost my long thick dyed hair during 1 year of cancer treatment, and I was so tenderly cared for. My hair grows fast. It's now shoulder-length, strong, thick, a beautiful shiny silver-white, the natural color appears different each new day. This is me! After hearing this presentation I'll be entering into another journey. I can hardly wait to read my new biography!

It was my hair, my business and my choice. And I love it, it made me feel confident, made me feel good and most of all free to be myself. And my husband says it's sexy, lol.

    I’m one of the women who, bc of quarantine, decided now is the best time to finally stop with the dye, it’s VERY freeing. i’ve always liked being different, and going grey is definitely being different (at least in S Florida), as i’m the only one of my friends to be walking away from dye. on the days i feel washed out, i just slap on self tanner!

    I cut my hair short and love it. The grey come through easily after 8 months of trims - lockdown helped. Then I had a wobble and bleached it myself! Those toxic thoughts....you look old, you look like your mum, you have given in ...they got me!
    Now after the hairdresser got me blonde and repaired the chicken little look I gave myself I am letting the grey come through again. You are always my go to person when I need a boost, you express the vulnerabilities we all share. Thank you

    Thank you so much Nikol. Your videos are more than helpful. This video in particular is one I will refer to often while I’m on this journey. I haven’t dyed my hair since February. When the salons closed due to Covid I kept going with the gray. Had my first “negative” comment the other day from my MIL who says....”but you had such beautiful dark colored hair!” I really do understand why other women question the choice. But I understand more that it is MY choice and I really do feel empowered.

    Funny story for you, when my mom first went grey she became the Bride of Frankenstein, it looked soooo amazing! She had all this dark brown hair that was just not yet black with this awesome streak of white hair right next to her right temple. When I first told my mom she thought I was making fun of it.....long story short she actually got a little teary eyed when I told her I thought it was the coolest things......I would tell all my friends that I thought my mom looked amazing with her shock of white hair. It was sooooo bad ass!

      My grandfather had dark hair with white streaks at the temples. He didn’t start going grey till his 50s. I thought it looked cool and told him he looked like a very stylish vampire. Lol
      My 3 brothers started going gray in their 30s, but I take after my grandfather and didn’t start till my 50s. I’m now 53 and have the same streaks at my temples that contrast against my dark hair.
      Just like his did.
      I love it.

    Such a powerful and inspiring video, Nikol! ♥ I have been growing out my gray since last November, and I'm loving it. It's coming in kind of a dark ashy shade with blondish streaks (I'm a natural redhead). So happy to finally have my authentic hair color coming back again after decades of coloring. I also love the long transition time, gives me a chance to really get used to it.

      Gwen you can get tbrough it! It is so worth it. I really had a hard time at first because of the roots. I felt I looked like one of those women who let their roots grow out 4-5 inches before recoloring. Where's the mystery in that?!?!lol. Now I have women approach me all the time to ask about it and tell me how they love my hair!!! The condition of my hair keep getting better from NOT coloring it, gone are broken ends and post shampoo snarliness. Gone the monthly expense of salon coloring! It just keep getting better and better!

    I love your message! Being a woman is such an honor, in my opinion. When I decided I was finished with the monthly ritual of coloring 'my roots' that is when I literally reclaimed my inner strength. It sounds a bit odd, I know, yet it is true. The hairstylist I had been going to for upward of 15yrs was not supportive, so I found a new one. I learned a lot about myself thru the transition and made the best of the opportunity. It was so liberating! I can honestly say that I think my natural hair is the prettiest, the most healthy it has ever been. It's vibrant, soft, and has so much natural body. I actually use less product these days.

    Thank you for all this positive information. I used to color my hair, highlight it, every thing to cover my silver-grey. About four years ago I got tired of spending so much time at the salon, not to mention the cost. Decided to let everything go and embrace the change. I LOVE it, I LOVE the silver-grey and do everything to show it off. The streaks of silver-grey are beautiful. It’s been a journey to experiment with different makeup shades, eye shadows, blush and lipsticks. My journey has been beautiful and fun. Thank you for sharing yours 💜💜

    This is a great vlog, and i agree with everything she says. Went grey or should i say platinum over my natural color light brown. And yes I had several hairdressers tell me not to think about going back to highlights. This is a god given gift of natural highlights. Yes, it took me a long time to get use to it, and yes I most likely look my age. Family members tell me I look old, however I have had many many people tell me how beautiful my hair is and ask me if its all natural. One lady followed me around in a store, and finally she says you hair is awesome and it is your natural hair right? She told me she was afraid to say anything at first because she said its so pretty, but thought it was a wig! Thank you Nikol you look beautiful!
