Used to watch the Derby on TV with my Mum every year when I was growing up. One year she had forgotten the date and we were in a K-Mart when she suddenly remembered. We raced to the area in the store where they sold televisions, made ourselves comfy right on the floor and watched the run for the roses. My Mum died in 1994 at the age of 86, but she's with me every year when the Derby is run as I remember my childhood watching it with her.

Since I was a little girl I wanted to go see The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. So finally when I retire I get to go see my life long dream ! I can’t wait ! ( I’ve only been waiting over 45 years ! ) ❤️🐴
Nothing satisfies me more, than hearing “My Old Kentucky Home”, when the Kentucky Derby comes in place, each year. Horse racing has been one of the popular pastimes in my family, with thanks to my dad, who once worked in the old, and now permantly closed, Arlington Park Racecourse (which was owned by Churchill Downs), in Arlington Heights, IL. He goes back a long way, with that race track, and I’ve been very thankful, to have been part of that classic history, that was once unfolded, when their doors were still open, there.
It's been 4 years since I bet WIN on the KENTUCKY DERBY but I've never won, 2021 ESSENTIAL QUALITY 2022 EPICENTER 2023 TAPIT TRICE and now I'll bet on FIERCENESS hopefully to win one. good luck horses and Jockey have a safe ride.
It has been cruel for 150 years, but yet this all started in the late 19th century, and despite our feelings with how cruel it is, it continues to be an ongoing “fastest 2min. in sports” tradition.
NPR did a segment about how horse racing is just as bad as dog fighting. But horse racing is for the affluent, and dog fighting is associated with criminals. Class warfare.

My Kentucky born aunt always cried when they played My Old Kentucky Home......
Thank the Lord I am a Kentuckian! No other place I would rather live. Born, raised and always lived in The Motherland that is Kentucky!
Go Baby Go. !! May the sun shine bright in my old KY home. ❤. 🏇🏼
love CBS Sunday Morning lures me into another interesting historical story…about racism.
0:36 Thank you Jim Axelrod for pronouncing Louisville correctly.
I have always enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby. I look forward to watching the 150th. 🏇

Love this
Great interview ❤❤❤❤❤. Hope no rain ❤❤❤❤. Love em!!;;
My friend's grandfather made the KY derby cup for years
150 years of cruelty to horses
MUST END NOW! 🐎
That's why my ex is in Kentucky! With her Kentucky born new guy(some 20yrs ago!).
I spoke to her just this AM, we are good.
I'll be there! Or at least watching on TV, anyway...
If you can find a copy, read the biography of James Winfield. Hecwon the derby 2 years in a row. Then they banned black jockeys.
Curator should have also said ".....horses die we run the Kentucky derby".
I have said I'm on my way Home to JESUS ahead of the pack, like Secretariat! GLORY! 🙏🏼🙌🏼👏🏼❤❤❤
150 'consecutive " years, running at Churchill Downs
Hunter s Thompson wrote a great story about the Kentucky Derby.
"Churchill Downs " ! Don't know why she was so intrigued about The Race
Horse racing is extremely cruel.
Another 'expert' that probably doesn't know anything about horses or racing.
It has been cruel for 150 years, but yet this all started in the late 19th century, and despite our feelings with how cruel it is, it continues to be an ongoing “fastest 2min. in sports” tradition.
- horse racing can definitely be cruel but not always. It's also exciting and fascinating when done well.
❄️
Not unless you win. 💵💵💵
CBS: Constant Black Stories. Just gotta be a race angle in here somewhere.
Right !!! I was like could I NOT hear about that just once and especially speaking of my fav sport ! It’s about the horses not friggin race !
Since 1875 !!
I'll probably be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon, but have fun on Kentucky Derby Day 🎉🎉
Sorry to hear that man 😔
One day at a time my friend- recovery is possible bro
@@Bruce-n3zya'll need to listen to the Rolling Stones more. OP is quoting Dead Flowers. 😂

And they go straight to race. I can’t believe how woke CBS has gotten.
So the gqp will soon ban talking about the derby history! 😂
Why is everything race baited
Why don't you know that the word" "race" has multiple meanings???
@@yvonneplant9434 I think he was making a joke. Pretty decent one, too.
0:57….Wait I thought next year it’s 150 not this year ?
Should be canceled because of the horse drug and they're doing
Total weeks CBS Sunday Morning has done a story that wasn't about race: 0
US was founded on white supremacy so yes that’s our history. Embrace it and let’s not forget but do better and not repeat it 🙏🥃
NPR did a segment about how horse racing is just as bad as dog fighting. But horse racing is for the affluent, and dog fighting is associated with criminals. Class warfare.
Just another way to make money off animals. Gross.
❄️
@@toddseales8222 You are correct there.
What a way to just move on past the question about 13 deaths.
Shame on cbs
Did you really expect them to care about the horses? The Kentucky Derby is exploitation of horses and animal cruelty.
Who is the gentleman @4:42 ? No introduction or name...
Jockey Mike Smith.
@@RJ-go3sn thanks
Horse abuse. Stop horse racing now
Cruel "sport" for the horses 😢
Go back to your safe space ❄️
This coverage of the derby is pretty anemic. It barely touches on the rich history of the event and why it is part of the American Culture.
Are female horses allowed to compete in the race?
Look up Winning Colors and the Kentucky Oaks.
Certainly. But they do get a 5 pound weight allowance for being girls.
12 dead horses.

Animal cruelty at its finest
THANK GOD they have it on Saturday.

It is a shame how they treat black people in this country
No longer watch-horses are drugged and dying. Horse racing should be stopped.
Would love to here more as to why African Americans were pioneers in this sport and now no longer.
It’s an unfortunate reoccurring theme..
Exploiting animals for the millionaires!
