what a great tribute. i worked at sunset and maintained that console in the early 80s a piece of history to be certain. in 1984 we replaced it with another legendary console, custom built by the sunset sound team, now over 35 years later is still going strong and still one of the finest sounding in the world. Sometimes lighting does strike twice. - Thanks for Paul for a review of the original board's history that you witnessed first hand..
t bone, if you're reading this (and im sure you're not), API opamps are not class A, in fact their sound comes largely from the fairly large amount of crossover distortion caused by their class A/B design. perhaps you mean 'discrete'.
Beautiful! Regarding the 2520 it’s class A > class A/B output, but a classic this is similar to Neve’s 8078 BA440 card, compared to Neve’s 1073, 84, 1102, which are actually 100% class A topology. Api has really crafted history with the 2520 something that’s still great today and nice transformers that offer sweet sounding saturation!
Am I the only one saddened by the way T-Bone said "I'm not making that many records anymore. Life has taken me in other directions and I no longer have need for a studio." I understand that he's getting older but it just makes me sad for him to say he's basically not going to make music anymore. 😢
It takes a lot of energy to be an engineer producer in the years add up quick I understand more than I want to how a person or why a person needs to walk away at least for a little while
It’s class A/B. That doesn’t mean it’s worse or better than class A just different. The API 2520 Opamp is a bipolar Opamp. (Positive and negative DC voltage) The Neve 1073 is class A (unipolar positive only) I love examples of both types of preamps.
So essentially all that history and it became a summing mixer to breathe a bit of life into digital recordings. I could see why he is moving it on... would be great if someone purchased it and used it to record live music, not sample replaced time aligned music summing...

Legendary studio, the home of early Van Halen!! Thank you Sunset Sound!
I worked on that board in the late 80s! Loved it!
That water bottle on the console made me nervous.
Fine. You convinced me. I'll buy it.
These ads are the unpublished history of music. I love it!
where is and who owns the bushnell console now???
More of this in-depth recording/studio history content!!!!!
How about The Stooges “Fun House” LP? Wikipedia says recorded at Elektra Sound Recorders in Los Angeles 1970
Well done!
It's cool how studios back in the day would literally have a custom board built just for their studio. So many limitations back then.

they don't know what they mean........
No wonder 1073s are thicker! Makes sense why api is so punchy
I have t bones autograph! I did his walk of fame star ceremony in St Louis

That was enlightening! What are the titles of the background tracks by the way? Sound very tasty !

yeah. so many people misuse this term. I think they mean to say discrete.
Exactly.
No I think that does mean it's worse. I cried when I heard the drums for my album were tracked on neve class AB (AiR studios London)
Who has it now?
Who did buy the console?
🙄 great 👌 Sir
Is it still for sale
Dave Grohl, you listening???
Did this sell already? I don't see it on the Reverb site.
What's the song at 0:53?

Can we run M83 Hurry up were dreaming, through it please
how much is this going to be?? 100k ??
Take that drink off the console!
Reverb says it’s sold. But doesn’t say to who. You’d think whoever bought that thing would be telling the whole world, “come here to record.”
jensen's got the lips!
7 mil I'd say & didn't take less than 5. Then again, a bidding war between 2 billionaires could've fetched 17 million
anyone wanna go half

Hey, are you interested in any trades?...Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa'!!!
I got a 48 track Behringer!!!!!!!
What the hell does "pro-tools" have to do with any of this !!! ?????? ........what a ridiculous joke.
