Well the country has gone completely down the toilet since then. Those days weren't too long off the gold standard and the fiat money scam hadn't taken full hold then.
I'm actually in love with these. This was an exceptional program I'm so happy to be seeing for the first times now. Also, Freddy and JD just class acts.
Brings back such fond memories. Two of my favorite players of that era. Class acts both of them, complimenting and encouraging one another. Very nice to see again.
I could watch this exhibition of golf over & over.....just soooooo pure!!!! Two of my favorite golfers on a pristine facility in the American West. Does it get much better than that?!
Thank you PGA Tour for bringing to us these outstanding tournaments played years and years ago. It is wonderful to be able to watch them,, as well we must Thank RUclips for providing the website.
I might have to give a slight edge to Payne Stewart. Absolute butter. But Freddy's still got a gorgeous swing -- I love the way Augusta turns back the clock for him every year.
Agreeing with ALL the others who've agreed that Fred Couples swing is beautiful. As well I agree with "trdsf" comment that the great Payne Stewart's swing was so magnificent to watch. We miss Payne so much.
I’m trying to think how many times I’ve watched this match. First time I caught it was in 2006...while I was recovering from dental surgery. Time flies!
"I can't hit this...I don't even know if it's my ball" is something I say every time I play. Freddie did a classy job of scolding the spectator there at the end of the round.
Why cant we have these vibes today. A crowd following the group. The kayaks in the water watching. In-between hole interviews. Two chill dudes golfing John Daly: "Times have changed indeed":( 44:08
Freddie has one of the most sweet smooth accurate tee shots I have ever seen. Both golfers have incredible athletic talent. And both are socially charming men.
Freddie seems like such a genuine dude... The way he talks to JD... it’s almost like a big brother deal. Keeps things very positive and light knowing JD gets down on himself ~
I watched John Daly and Fizzy Zeller play an practice round and Riviera and John was joking with the crowd and Fuzzy asked him “are you going to play golf or joke around?” John teed his ball up on a Diet Coke can and hit is 300 yards down the middle and and responded “both”. 😂
Please do this to the entire series...sell it in the dying physical market of dvds. Organize by decade, along with new interviews of the tech shell used/combined with original interviews regarding the tech shell used. Simply amazing. You obviously have the rights...get this done please!,
What a great match, these are two of golf's greatest players giving it all they have. I would love to meet them both in person one day. And tell them thanks for the contribution they have given to the game.
Here in NSW (a state of Australia), our courses were closed for 24 hours 6 weeks ago before the powers came to their senses. We've been playing groups of 2 ever since, no touching the flagstick, no bunker rakes, no smooching etc. Essential, especially for the older generation who really need both the physicality and socialisation golf offers. It's also really had an impact on the interest shown in golf with overbooking and swelling memberships. Who would've thought??
It just doesn’t get much better than Freddy! He’s the one that sparked my love of the game as a 12 year old in 1992. His swing is what are golfer wishes they had. He’s always humble and respectful… such a legend
I've played all three courses at Sun River Resort. The greens are like carpet. My first time there I was on the putting green and actually bent down to touch the grass to see if it was real. And then asked the starter and he assured me it was real and all the greens were that perfect. A golfer's dream coming from hot and humid Virginia and the pockmarked greens.
I did some investigation and found out that the guy who shouted out too early on Daly's swing was asked to leave. As he left the course grounds two men in suits put a black hood over his head and threw him into the back of a car. He was then tortured for two hours and given a bill for $50,000 to cover the Daly's loss of earnings. The guy however did survive the ordeal and now works for LIV golf as a paid spectator to shout out; "in the hole!"
😂 23:50 is basically PEAK Fred Couples. “Take a look at this lie- how ya get a lie this good? (*does a little laidback-type stretch) How far we got anyway. (*Hears yardage) Oh boy. Pitching wedge? (Flushes it)” That’s a man who knows how lucky he is and is loving it/life.
Wow what a viewing, the genuine respect they have for eachother is admirable! It seems people have lost an awful lot of respect and ettiquette compared to then, really is a shame!
Couples dealt with back issues even back then or he could have accomplished the aforementioned. Daly was just enjoying himself living his best life, just like he does today.
I recently played that course.. it had some of the widest fairways I’ve ever played on a golf course.. if your wedge game is on it’s actually pretty easy to score well on it. I do have to say the views on the course are absolutely stunning!! And I saw quite a bit of wildlife and fish jumping in the waterways.
Played this course in the early 2000's with friends as part of a golf trip. We got on because one of our friends was a PGA Pro (teaching pro) and he knew the other pro at Crosswater. On the 687 yard par 5, our buddy hit driver and driver off deck to get there in 2. He was sitting just on the fringe, made the putt for eagle.
OMG 😳!! I’m late to the game by a few years :)).2 of Golf’s Icons I watched & learned golf ⛳️ from aka self taught. Then comes Tiger of course. I’m so old I don’t remember watching this?? Hmmmm! Best game in the world 🌎.
Love the 90s aesthetic of the broadcast. Honey-smooth voice overs and nicely integrated product placement for the region and the golf resort.
Everything was correct and better in the 80s and 90s
Well said Jax!
Agreed, I think this was how it's done
The product placement is not nicely integrated but I do love those voice overs
Well the country has gone completely down the toilet since then. Those days weren't too long off the gold standard and the fiat money scam hadn't taken full hold then.
The competitiveness with the respect and compliments Freddie and John give make matches like this so awesome makes it so enjoyable to watch
The smoothness of Fred’s swing is unbelievable. What am I witnessing
Fred's swing
You are witnessing rhythm and melody.......
Effortless Power. As opposed to most of us with Powerless Effort. Lol
JD and Freddy two of the most humble and great players of all time.

This is exactly what we need right now
The respect the players show for each other here is very commendable.
Not only do these two have among the best swings ever but I love their approaches. They play instinctively
They should do these again . Would love to see it.
I agree
Wouldnt be the same imo. These guys were just so much more endearing and likable than today's players.
23 years later I'm enjoying this wonderful match between this 2 great golfers on a beautiful golf course with a lot of History....
what a stunning golf course... I love watching the perfect divots they take.

The sound of Freddie's impact with full pitching wedge is majestic.
He was really underrated his whole career

The best televised golf series ever. Not just for the golf either, great travelogue content too.

For being such a big hitter, Daly's short game is so underrated! Amazing touch!
Couples a true Gentleman, he will keep the match close for respect of his challenger. I've seen him do this several times.

they're being so kind to eachother
How we should all treat each other! Even our enemies 🙏
As true Gentlemen are.
Love seeing people enjoy a game without phones in there hands! Just people living the moment I almost forgot what those days are like!
I followed Fred around Royal Adelaide in 98. He didn't play his best but I was so stoked to see him swing. A real highlight.
It's just a honor 2 get to play on Shells historic wonderful world of golf what a fantastic game Just gotta love it
The shot responses from these two are priceless
😂😂😂 it’s great
Thanks john
Played this twice earlier in the week. Such a beautiful and very difficult course!
Looks like a monster
Freddy’s silky smooth swing..and JDs brilliant short game….awesome.

Not sure why they can’t do this now. Two player match with a wide open course. Social distancing would not be an issue.
