I never liked the hood louver look. But on a very windy day, a large branch fell from a tree and mangled a lot of my hood. I managed to bend a lot of it back into shape. But in the middle was a very large dent. I did not have the money for a new hood so I reluctantly bought a hood louver. Initially, I thought about not making it functional and just covering the enormous dent. But I felt stupid doing that so I made the louver fully functional and cut the holes properly. It was the best low price modification I have ever made! Before, I had to open the hood and let the Jeep sit before working on it. Now, I can open work on the Jeep immediately when I turn it off. It keeps the engine compartment very cool. If I knew it would keep things so cool before, I would have done long ago.
That looks great man! Thanks for referring me to this video! I have that same color on my 2000 TJ. I had no idea a paint shop could match for a rattle can.
💥 nice, as you can see you have options that won’t break the bank , i liked the vynl it was cool, but paint was just easier to spray! If you decide to paint may want to consider two cans of each! Thanks for watching
hey great videos man glad to see a TJ channel! Not a huge issue, but your amazon link is set up as a gift list, i think you can change it so you get a little kick back from us buying because of you! Also it could use some organization.
💥 nice, I really didn’t consider that on Amazon but now it’s in my head, I appreciate the suggestion, I’ll look into organizing it better too. I just keep adding to the list😂😂 Thanks for watching! Cheers
Five years and counting for my louver. It was supposed to be just to cover up an enormous dent until I bought a new hood. It works so good that I never replaced the hood. The hood with the louver is far better than just a stock hood. Get your louver. You will not regret it.
So far haven’t really noticed , and it can definitely have some good rains here in CA @ first I was worried about it , but not really now because so many have done this mod without any issues and I’m one of those! Thanks for watching
The engine is hot enough to burn any of that off, but not much water gets inside , more from the bottom honestly! I usually don’t do much driving in the rain , it definitely was a concern of mine but not any more
There should be two small retainer clips that hold them in place, squeeze together tight and push forward and out from the under side of the hood out and away from the top of the hood! Hope this helps thanks for watching
Great video. I trail ride in Arizona and this summer I overheated. I'm thinking this louvered hood piece would help. Are you noticing any difference in temps?
Impressed with that paint job! Looks really good, but now you have to prep and redo your fenders and cowl, etc, to match! Lol. Are you doing anything to the interior?
💥 thanks, the fenders are most likely going bye bye , but yes the interior a few things I’ve done and Spod for battery coming real soon! Thanks for watching
Very nice mod on the hood! Is water a concern during heavy rain or car washing? I've seen louvers on TJs more on the left side, where the only exhaust manifold is. My concern is for the electronics
💥 nice, thanks for subbing and watching, at first water was a concern but I’ve talked to so many people that have done this mod and they swear by it, so far it’s been really good and I love the design and look! Also I don’t go through much water or mud puddles where most mud and water comes up from the bottom in anyway, just mainly dry trails and rocks for me , if you can try not to run in the rain and garage if possible! But other than that my hood really needed a make over and I’m a happy overlander! Cheers !
Hood latches came off because I had to remove the old vynl wrap that covered the entire hood , also at the end of the video we color match the hood to the oem paint spec! Thanks for watching!

@@ATEMOFFROAD ahh I see. I just get nervous cuz of mud or water splashing in, or just general leafs n debris. I have a 99 TJ with the 4.0L I6 with only 50,000 miles on it.
@@rmat9023 I haven’t had any major issues with the install or weather! our red jeep : I will not cut that hood only because it’s more stock than the two jeeps I want to keep it that way, I live in CA so it does rain here , I have driven it in some heavy rains and so far no problems, for the most part the hot engine burns off most of the rain water! I don’t go through much mud or puddles and I do avoid those often , mainly dirt trails and camping for us. My advise is don't do this to your Jeep, it will look fine for a couple of years, after the finish looks like crap youll regret permanently ruining your hood. This thing is a pain to paint or.touch up.
I'll answer this for Dustin. 1997-2002 have dual washer nozzles whereas the 2003-2006. AFAIK that's the only difference between my 1998 and my 2006 TJ bonnets.

Great job overall and that rattle can paint job came out better than I expected.

The rattle can is underrated
this guy has the most perfect tutorials!!!!

@@ATEMOFFROAD yea painting will be the way for me. Thanks again!
I mounted the same type hood louver on my TJ but I did it with the hood on the jeep. Used a step stool to elevate myself and saved a ton of time.
That’s a good idea, I had my hood painted , so it was coming off anyway! Thanks for watching

Any data on how much of a difference this made in keeping the under-hood temps down?
Great video! Sub'd for support. Just added a Jeep TJ to the channel so looking forward to digging into this!
It’s a fun little project, thanks for watching! 🍻
How does it handle rain?..do water seep into the engine?
What about the rain going inside the engine and electric parts?
The engine is hot enough to burn any of that off, but not much water gets inside , more from the bottom honestly! I usually don’t do much driving in the rain , it definitely was a concern of mine but not any more
What kind of prep work went into the paint?
Scuff with scotch bright like painters prep material, topped with 2k gritt wet sand, dry and wipe down with tack cloth. Thanks for watching 🍻
Did it effect the windshield cleaner nozzles?
No 🍻
Please tell me how you removed the windshield washer nozzle? Thank you.

Good working🤙
Great video. I trail ride in Arizona and this summer I overheated. I'm thinking this louvered hood piece would help. Are you noticing any difference in temps?
It does help reject heat on the trail when Rpms are low and at idle. Needle stays below 210 hasn’t went over! So far I love it ! Thanks for watching 🍻

What brand did you use and did you have any type of hood rattling?
No hood rattling, found this one on Amazon
What's the point of these hood? Is there any functionality behind it or Is it just cosmetic
Yes to help vent or reject heat especially when on a trail in 4lo at low vehicle speeds
Will this fit a 2006. Seems like there’s zero difference but for whatever reason Amazon shows 97-02
That’s strange it should fit, I’m not aware of and changes! Good luck
2003-2006 have a single washer nozzle in the middle. The older tj had two ! The 03-06 Louvers are about $200.00 more lol

Hey I have a TJ too and need have some questions if you don’t mind, is there a social media account I can reach you at?
Why don't you paint the hood louvers the same color? It would look nicer than flat black.
I will end up painting the louder soon , it’s inevitable
i dont know why you removed the template you could have cut through the paper marked it out with a sharpie it would have saved you a ton of time
