Triban RC520 with an upgraded wheelset. You get shimano 105, TRP HY/RD (cable actuated hydraulic calipers), good tire clearance and endurance geometry.
I’d go with the Boardman for sure out of that bunch. My current road bike is a gravel bike with road tyres, the versatility it offers is great and keeps up fine with road bikes on club rides
every bike from big brands i always compare to two german brands: rose and canyon, and evry time these two are extremly competetive taking into account 4 main factors: geometry, weight, groupset and price e.g. TREK Domane AL: + geometry, - groupset, weight, price Specialized Allez: + geometry, weight, - groupset, price Canyon Endurace, Rose Pro SL: +geometry, price, groupset, weight
I bought the boardman 8.9 SLR the road carbon version and it's a fantastic bike I have upgraded mine with a 105 crank and DT Swiss PR1600 wheels decked out with continental GP4season tyres it's everything I want from a road bike now.
I'm a Boardman ADV 8.9 owner and I absolutely love it. I treat it quite badly and it's great. Not too expensive either as I got it on cycle to work so less than £700. Only issue is the front fork eyelets were very soft and one side has deformed with the mudguard I put on it....
what wheels does the zenium use? i am wondering why the vitus Razor VR Disc Sora is only 1 kg heavier when made of aluminum and the zenium is made of carbon
@@andypaul999 If you say so... Just check bicycles geometry data before purchase and think what you expect from the bike. All I ask is please stop praising most expensive brands for the logo on frame.
sure, but is it just me or does it sound like he's reading off a script Jack wrote lol. Maybe there's not enough intonation to make you forget it *is* just script-reading, compared to Jack's narration
Rose PRO SL 105 all the way if it was my money. ok it has Rim breaks but imho Rim breaks is better then mecanical disc (expecially if you dont ride in the rain most of the time). otherwise DT swiss wheels, complete 105, and ritchey finishing kit.
I choose the one online that is deliverable within 16 weeks or in shops the one that is available at all. Shops seem to focus on eBikes these days and hardly have any stock on other bikes, methinks. :/
Maybe the money goes on marketing if you buying one of their top end bikes, but I’ve found they are pretty competitive with other brands around the £1000 mark. And I’m happy to be paying a bit towards Mark Cavendish’s salary!
What if one is in the market around the 3000 quid price range (or in my current currency 5000-6000. AUD/NZD)? I want discs and electronic shifting but not fussed about super light
I've just done up an old CAAD (all in less than £500) and there is ZERO discernible difference in speed, even over big distance, between it and my 7k Canyon bike. Mechanical gears tend to change faster as well allowing you to be more aggressive. I'm never going to fall for the marketing tactics of the cycling industry again. I only bought my Canyon a few years ago and I'd be lucky to get 2k back. There's nothing more ridiculous than a guy riding around on a 10k Dogma in his Rapha kit and Meilenstein wheels but can only average 15mph over a 20 mile rolling countryside ride. It's like David Beckham dressing up as a country gent driving round in his vintage land rover. It's vanity and pantomime dress up.
Great, well-written, and INFORMATIVE video, but *Oh My God* that SHIRT was really painful to look at. The sheer lack of taste by the wardrobe director (I can only assume he/she/they were proudly gay?) was just … breathtaking. I had to look away every time the main presenter came on screen. Ouch 😢. To each their own, I suppose, but WOW, just wow.

That's a very good alternative! We reviewed the RC520 here: www.bikeradar.com/reviews/bikes/road-bikes/triban-rc520-disc-review/
Badly need it in india, waiting
Shockingly heavy frame with poor welding aesthetics. Add new tyres to the upgrade list!

My 1st Road bike Giant Contend AR3 bought this May 2021 £1099 with Shimano Sora groupset. not too bad!
Great choice!
Pheeew! Just ordered a budget road bike as a training / spare bike. None of these bikes make me regret it so far (yet to ride though). Polygon S4.

How does Specialized offer value? It has the worst brakes, 9 speed and 9mm QR axles while all you need is vitus with caliper swap.
And yet through all that is still rides brilliantly. So the frame and fork must be exceptional.

I don't think you even need to swap the calipers. If you upgraded to hydraulic you have just added more than 50% to the price.
@@byrondixon4648 I am suggesting just higher quality mechanical calipers. Of course switching to hydraulics is like replacing half the groupset.

If I had 1400$, I‘d not buy a tiagra bike. You could get a 105 with rim brakes for that kind of money e.g. specilized allez Elite.
Nice batik!
Forget the bikes. Where can I get that jacket?!
Specialized Allez for me, but worth spending a bit extra for the Elite spec for 11 speed 105 groupset.
But that goes out of the 1000£
Yes, the Sora bike would still be good if that’s all you can afford. I have Sora on my winter bike.
With Specialized a lot of your money pays for marketing not performance.
