I own this keyboard myself (I own the red CTS200). There's a few things that indeed bugged me like the lack of touch sensitivity keys and the backlight across all models. I also think the keyboard should be 49 keys instead of 61 if they wish to emphasize on the portability. A majority of old Casiotone models also have 49 keys to begin with. The sound chip should also be at least a more streamlined version of AiX.
Other than that I have no issue with the Casiotone. I love its versatility and its aesthetics.

To me, the CT-S300 is the only viable keyboard for this series. But I agree with you on most of the points, though black is fine for me. The tone access and preset memory is the biggest shortcomings. And the sounds are decent, but like you mentioned elsewhere, they could have had the later upper grade sound set of tones. I may be getting the CT-S300 next month. It would be fine for what I need it for now, so switching tones quickly is not a big deal, but with the mic input and the things you mentioned, and better sounds, it could be great, if done well, and still under $200. The form factor, with the light weight,61 full sized, touch sensitive keys, pitch bend wheel, speakers, battery power, carrying handle and music holder is hard to beat.

  • @LongPeter
    @LongPeter 3 года назад

They could easily program it to store multiple user presets. Design wise, it could simply be less the my setup button, turn the wheel to get you your preferred preset. Done. The three buttons below the LCD could let you save and delete presets. You could even use the dial to input short names.
Worth mentioning that the CT-S300 is $300 in Australia. Our consumer law requires most electronics have at least two years of warranty.

  • @bryangl1

I guess some of your issues result from keeping to a very low price. But I agree in that reducing the product line to, for example, two models, the reduced production line costs would allow the possibility of choice of colors and other features you suggest while still in the ultra low cost bracket. And, of course, if they can afford some lighted keys in one model, there's no excuse for the lack of backlit screens! Also, there's little to go wrong with even the cheapest keyboards, so the usual 5-year warranty on most similar goods in Australia, where I am, should be standard generally (well perhaps countries with extreme climates may need a different approach - although I think Singapore can get very humid!!). By the way Jeremy, I think your videos are developing even more polish - among the most professional ones for this market on RUclips - congratulations

  • @dadautube
    @dadautube 3 года назад +4

in defense of these particular Casio models,
#1. yes, back-lighting for that little LCD screen is surely a great idea, but when at home, one can use one of the SO MANY fancy little nightlights or simlar stuff like that one can get for a $ or $$ in most stores everywhere ... (it can be hooked up very easily and nicely on the keyboard's own handle for example ...) and when on camping, as you mentioned, you'd most probably be using these keyboards on battery power, right? so, the lack of an LCD back-light is actually a good idea! (and even on a camping trip, one can still use some small torch using its own battery source instead of the keyboard's ...)
#2. no numeric keypad is such a downer surely, especially in case of a keyboard like this with so many sounds and rhythms, but this instrument can also be controlled via the MIDI and a DAW, right? so, ...
#3. yes, only one registration setting is a deal breaker no doubt for those who're used to have more ... but again, and i'm not sure if i'm totally right about this, but maybe i am; couldn't we also control these keyboards via the MIDI and a DAW so as to actually remove the need for a registration? or add more registration that way? after all, granted this is a nice little portable keyboard that makes it somehow 'ideal' for live performance, where more registration settings could come truly handy ... but in the end, this is a small and lightweight keyboard designed and made to be offering a lot of things in a very compact form factor AS WELL AS be VERY cheap and affordable at the same time too ... so, ...
#4. the choice of (only 2 more) colors limited to the S200 model may look annoying at first ... but since 'color coding' in case of keyboards of this type may come in handy only when we connect them as controllers to one or more DAWs via MIDI, then it doesn't really matter the S200 series doesn't have velocity and pitch bend simply because the DAW will provide them for us!
#5. yes, you're right that with the rather too close price difference among these already not so costly models is a little bit silly or something ... but again , consider a total beginner, who wouldn't quite understand nor actually need a touch-sensitive keyboard at first anyway ... so, s/he'd go for the cheapest one, saving $10 or $20 buying him/herself something else with the extra money in pocket, say an ice cream, or a sandwich, or preferably, a stand to place the keyboard on! ;-) besides, if i'm not mistaken, none of these models come with a power adapter, or do they? if they don't, then the extra money can be spent on purchasing the PSU ...
#6. dunno what to say about that overly long and rather unbelievable 5-year warranty in Australia on the same products that are warranted for much lesser time elsewhere ... kind of odd, if not weird ... why is that so really!?
good review btw! points well observed ... keep up the good job as i am one of your subscribers! :-)

The red matter is an issue I'm having on choosing cts300... I mean I really wanted the red one but like you said: sacrifice pitch bend and sensitive is something bad...
After see the sensitive...I think I will buy black and them paint or somehow decorate mine (black) with some color... after warranty runs out of it's time... hahahahah😂😂
I think someone could make these keyboard with "face plate " and you could swap it...paint.. some led attachment would be very nice as well. Of course not in front... but on sides
The warranty is amazing. Could it work for brazil users or we can send to us if there is any issue on future?

Yeah, wonder why Casio chose to slice the market so thin, and how come they decided to push the non touch responsive model most. I guess, perhaps they needed to meet some specific requirments of a big school deal?
Related to warranty duration, I've seen many demo units of CTK/CT-X make crunching noise... Do you feel these new keys might last longer? Anyway, five years sounds awesome. Legal requirements, maybe?

I was looking for a decent keyboard for my 7 year old daughter to learn on, which would also do double duty as MIDI device for my DAW use. My choices were between the yamaha PSS A50 and this. Daughters needs are primary as a learner keyboard (61 full sized touch keys), and the fact I want something relatively portable and kid proof. I would also like to add that in Amazon India (where I'm from) the CT-X700 is just like a thousand rupees ($15) more. Which would be a better buy, the A50 or S300 or X700 (ever though I'm moreattracted to the form factor of the yam and the s300)

I wish they could have included a category button. I mean, on the display it literally names the category you are in, so shouldn't there be a category button just like the Casio CDP-S350?
For the backlit screen, it's not a huge problem because I still think the layout is way better than the other CTK models.
If I had to decide, I would remove the CTS-100 and MAYBE the CTS-200.
The reason why is because since the price difference isn't much, people won't really buy this.
And the LK-S250 I feel like is overpriced for adding a few features and removing one. I really don't need a microphone input.
The CTS-300 is easily the best for having touch sensitive keys and a pitch bend at a reasonable price. I wish they could have included all 3 colors for each keyboards, that would have been nice. Hopefully within a few years they can add these changes and also maybe improve the older CTK models.

Also make sure your setup is free of any noticeable latency.
Any delay between pressing a key and hearing the sound will make playing and learning very difficult.
This is a common problem especially on windows PCs when using standard sound cards/ on board sound instead of more specialized audio interfaces for musicans.
Usually it is possible to fix that problem but it may be a pain if you are not an experienced user/ someone who doesn't mind fiddling with drivers and such.

    Dear Jeremy,
I have the Casio CT-X5000 and the piano sound is great. Now I'm planning to buy a 88 keys digital piano. However, after watching all your videos, I found that the CDP S100 sound is quite different, seems it is equivalent to the CDP130 and not as good as the piano from the AIX chip. And the CDP S350 is the same as the X5000.
So my question is, why a new piano has the outdated sound like that, and if I love the CT-X sound, and want 88 weighted keys, which one is suitable?

That's true. At least Casio put all the cheesy GM-Sounds at the End of the list. Are people actually are using these?
I bought the 200 for my home studio, it's my first keyboard (I am a guitar player) so my level of tolerance might be higher.
I use it also as a Midi Controller, but I really would have preferred a "big" USB-Connection instead Micro-USB.
The internal sounds are a nice addition and connected to my Stereo especially the organs are sounding quite impressive.

The pricing on Casio keyboards in Thailand are ridiculous.
CT-S200 is around $250 and CT-X700 is $310 and CT-X800 is $350 converted from THB.
Who in their right mind would pay that much for an entry level model without touch response keys and no backlit screen.
I know the CTS200 is newer but it's clear that they messed up the pricing badly it would've been a sure buy if it's around $150.

True. Casio has not got their pricing correct in many Asian markets. Quite a pity.

I really want the red 😢😢 but as a pianist who needs portability and sensitivity. I must sacrifice my poor red keyboard for it. Actually i thought of one really unrealistic idea, what if you designed a red skin for it?? Like of course not for the entire keyboard but like just for some parts... I wonder 🤔🤔
