Dave Grohl has been through it. He single handedly recorded the first Foo Fighters album without a band. He did it out of grief. Dave was the drummer of a band called Nirvana. He was grieving the death of frontman Kurt Cobain. This is from the second album when he had his band. Dave is one hell of a songwriter.
That first album is still my favourite
One of Most talented musicians of our time. Dave is Everywhere and music flows out of him
People always think Learn To Fly is from The Colour and The Shape but it's from their third album There's Nothing Left To Lose
If you did not know, the singer of Foo Fighter Dave is the drummer for Tenacious D. He played the devil in the pick of destiny as well in their music video Tribute. This is one of Foo Fighters best songs. The video was very good as well, loads of comedy.
Jumped into the comments to say the same thing
Also drummer of Nirvana
You could say he is also a vocalist/drummer for TD just for Beezleboss
He went on the Kelly Clarkson show and she had a similar feel for the lyrics. Dave's words were literally, "id hate to burst your bubble...I just wanted to be a pilot..."
He is spiritual, nothing in particular. He’s a strong believer in family bonds. His interpretation is pretty literal: he wanted to become a pilot. The feat thing about his lyrics is that they can be interpreted in multiple ways. Watch the My Hero live version from the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert.
"All My Life", "Times Like These", "Everlong" and "My Hero" are worth a listen.
The Pretender and There Goes My Hero the original and the live one from the memorial concert for drummer Taylor Hawkins featuring Shane Hawkins I think you would enjoy.
Watching Shane play drums at the tribute to his dad is definitely top 10 live music moments for me.
I agree, top live moment for me as well!
Agreed 💯
Yep, Hero is my fav by them.
@@elizabethfranco1284 each of those and Everlong have a special place for me and always will
You NEED to do Foo Fighters "Monkey Wrench", you wont believe the ending was done in one breath, it's incredible!
I came to say the same 😊
Not 1 breath, it was edited for the studio version. He absolutely cannot do it live and never has.
Rocking 1000 does an amazing feat of gathering 1000 musicians & singers and they cover this song. IT IS SOMETHING ELSE!
YES
"Hook me up a new revolution,
'Cuz this one is a lie.
We stood around laughin',
And watched the last one die."
Them's some powerful lyrics, right there.
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss
The Pretender is a must listen❤❤
my fav song and music video is awesome
Thank God for cruise control when The Pretender is playing or else I would have lost my driver's permit years ago.
Tenacious D (jack Black & Kyle Gass) were a comedic duo in the 90's before they became famous in the 2000's... They were friends w/ Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Tenacious D were cast in this music video in 1999... Back then, Jack Black was only famous for roles like 'The Jackal' in 1997 where he got his hand shot off by Bruce Willis' character😬
In 2002, Foo Fighters contributed a song 'The One' to the movie soundtrack for 'Orange County'... starring Jack Black.
'Learn to fly' came from Foo Fighters' 3rd album 'There is nothing left to lose' in 1999, recorded as a trio (Guitarist Chris Shiflett did the tour and joined Foo Fighters til today) The music video actually won a Grammy Award ... It was their first album w/ Taylor Hawkins on drums, who joined in 1997 after he replaced original drummer William Goldsmith... Hawkins stayed in the Foo Fighters until his untimely death in 2022 (R.I.P.)
The song is literally about Dave's desire to learn to fly on some level. But Foo Fighters also leave their music up to personal interpretation so that it can reach out to the most amount of people , so metaphor isn't contra indicated either
I have loved Foo Fighters from the very beginning...probably a hold over from my love of Nirvana ....Dave's the best, the best, the best, the best......
Black Pegasus, you have got to check out Rockin 1000 official Foo Fighters Learn to Fly, took my breath away when 100's of musicians came together, practiced for a solid year to learn this tune, then Begged Dave and the Foo Fighters to come to Cesana, Italy and play!
Absolutely was a movement, blew me away. Thanks
BP👍❤️
DITTO - that is a must see video and story. Never another like it AFAIK. What a performance!
Btw, the Foo did go and play a show over there and all the musicians who played or sang were there.
came here to say the same!
What WHHHAAAAAT!!!
I was 16, the first Foo Fighters CD was a gift given to me by my friend Sam on my birthday. Sam wasn’t really a great friend but was always invited to go places with us because my mom and his mom were good friends. After listening to that album front to back and side to side and everywhere between I became obsessed. These guys have so many great songs. React to as many as you can. As decades have past since Sam gave me that CD, I’ve lost touch with him. His mom moved away and my mom and her kind of lost touch too. I don’t know much of what happened to Sam, he has no social media, but I will forever associate this band with my friend. Sam, thanks for introducing me to this band, and the nostalgic memories I have of you when I hear them.
Dave is so funny and likeable. I love that his mom went on tour with him and do stuff like drink beer with Green Day or the other acts. This inspired her to to interview other musicians moms and wrote a book titled " from cradle to stage". A legendary rockstar mom indeed.
check out the documentary that goes with it. It's like 8 or 10 chapters where all the moms meet during the last one. She even did Amy Winehouse's mother.. Who also showed up for the meeting of the moms.
Seen Foo fighters a few weeks ago at Hampden in Glasgow Scotland... What an AMAZING time!!! 🖤🎸🩷
More Foo!
Check out Shane Hawkins drumming to "My Hero" live from the Taylor Hawkins tribute
That is such an emotional video, but its by far my favorite Foo song. Makes it that much better.
I’ve listened to Dave Grohl’s memoir on audiobook a couple of times. He doesn’t subscribe to a specific religion. But he prays or talks to the universe and sees his blessing in life as gifts from the universe.
The book made me a bigger fan than I was before. Seems like one of the most down to earth people around.
It's crazy to think that rocks and gasses can think and care about humans.
Someone has probably already said this. But Dave Grohl actually said in an interview that he wrote the song because he wanted to learn how to be a pilot. Legit "Learn to fly".
Look at how young they were ! Like babies 😮
Not sure if you know the drummer Taylor Hawkins passes away a couple years ago. You need to see My Hero where his son plays the drum at the tribute concert. Goosebumps
DOA is, IMO, their most underrated and underreacted to song. 10/10. Would reccomend.
Foo fighters always had great videos
All My Life is my favorite Foo Fighters song, but this one and Everlong are great too.
In case you didn't catch it. the elevator muzack in the very beginning and end is the Foo Fighter song "Everlong".
You HAVE to watch 'Best of You' Live at Wembley Stadium. If you love the studio version, you'll go crazy for the live version. Another great reaction!
❤YES!! The Live at Wembley Stadium performance of "Best of You" brings it to a whole other level!!! "EVERLONG" live at Wembley is also a must on a Foo journey!!!💯
MOAR Foo Fighters! DOA is a stone cold banger and the vocals on Rosemary are insane 😮
I agree with all the below comments! The Foo Fighters just plain Rock it all the time! My oldest son, a Battalion Chief firefighter/paramedic in charge of water rescue 13 miles out into the Atlantic in S.C., was gifted a VIP pass to see the Foo Fighters performing in N.C. in May, because their road manager was the brother of one my son’s Lieutenants who died last summer from firefighting related cancer at the age 40. My son helped this firefighter through his illness and did his eulogy. This concert meant a lot to my son, loving the band and memories of his friend/Lieutenant.
I love the Foo Fighters and I love this video! This video stands the test of time! Their music is deep and fun at the same time…it’s iconic!❤❤
One of the very best song/video combos ever... Love it 👌
❤They are such a great band and Dave's voice is so right. Yep best Of You is one their best. They are so fun to see live.....they always deliver. RIP Taylor🖤
This is my "Alexa, wake me up!" Song because it always makesvme smile. Awesome lyrics¡
This video is a play on the movie Airplane. Other great songs are All My Life, Everlong, DOA, Walk, and Run. As far as the meaning of this song, Dave has said it's about him literally wanting to learn to fly planes.
Your commentary was extremely insightful! So very deep and I relate 100%! You’re so much more substantive than other R’s!
Dave plays drums for some of the Tenacious D tracks.
Came to say this. And he played the devil in the pick of destiny and did all the drums for that lmfao, soooo good! I need to go rewatch that 😅
@@jeffreymorris5815 I’m slacking as I still haven’t seen Studio 666, Dave Grohls horror movie.
@@illeagle8041 It was pretty ridiculous 😅
Dave Grohl is one of the world’s greatest human beings. Seen them twice. I’m no rock fan but Dave is the greatest front man for ever. Obviously I’m a bit obsessed 😍
Times Like These is another amazing song by the Foo Fighters
I agree bro, it's about the message. Do more Lowkey please! I'ts all about the message for him and he's a real lyricist. You did his Return of Lowkey. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters was the drummer of Nirvana, by the way! Edit: I'm an old FUQ guy, turning 50 next year, God willing.😁
Best of You Live from Wembley Stadium 2008 is a MUST
This was the first FF song I played with a band. The 2nd was one I'd been playing on my own, busking acoustically: 'Times Like These', check the original studio version.
Love 'em both. 😊❤
My take of this song when it came out was that it was descriptive of dave trying to find himself and his place in the world. He had lost kurt cobain and Nirvana were over, he had started the foo fighters and was trying to find his own style of music. I think credence is given to this with the symbology in the video of all versions of dave being incapacitated and his bandmates having to take the wheel and learn how to fly.
I think this is the perfect song to bridge the gap from one band to another.
One of my Foo Fighters favorite songs.
Foos singer Dave Grohl knows Jack Black/Tenacious D and Dave actually played the Devil in a Tenacious D movie and he had a blast doing it so it was no surprise for me to see Tenacious D in a Foo Fighters Video. I love this song and video.
Love the Foo’s! Check out the song The My Hero next! Also their live stuff is great. Like many people mentioned when they performed My Hero live with the son of their drummer who had just died. And yes Dave Grohl is also the drummer for Tenacious D!
There is nothing left to lose.Is an awesome album.Generator,MIA,Live in skin etc.
Tenacious D and Foo Fighters ties are strong.
People sometimes forget...or don't realize...that it is Dave Grohl playing the part of the Devil in the music video for the Tenacious D track "Tribute".
the door goes both ways with these guys regularly
This is one of my go to videos. Dave, Nate and Taylor are so fun to watch in all their characters they portray. And Tenacious D at the front and back just add icing to the cake. And in case it wasn't obvious, I also love the song.
Times Like These on SNL is just fantastic. You definitely need to check it out.
My band used to play a set we called the Foo Foo Jet set. It was Wheels, Learn to Fly, and Are you Gonna Be My Girl by Jet. That set always got the crowd going! You should check out Wheels by the Foo Fighters and Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet. Fun songs!!
I love all The Foofighters videos😉Dave Grohl is hilarious😂
The Live memorial concert for Taylor watching his son play drums makes me cry every single time I watch that video just shows how important that father-son relationship is. Please react to that video.
Foo are legit! Seriously legit. The video is funny and the song is a banger.
Love the Foos! Miss Taylor but glad they’re getting back out there.
This is my favorite Foo Foo Fighter song simply because of the video. Genius. RIP Taylor Hawkins! One of the videos in the grid at the end of this reaction has me saying you should react to it. That video is "Drive" by Incubus. Can't remember if you've done that one yet.
Dave Grohl said on The Kelly Clarkson show that this song is about wanting to be a pilot and nothing more.
They put on the BEST shows
Dave Grohl is just a brilliant, funny, creative man. He's so beyond talented, he should be treasured like a rare gem. Cannot go wrong with the Foos!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your thoughtful speech afterwards. It got to me man.👊🏼
Foo Fighters are a great band!
Hero, Times Like These and The Pretender!
fun fact about tenacious d: dave grohl does the drums for all of their songs in studio; theyre close buddies
He was on with maybe Kelly Clarkson and she was telling him how inspired she was by the song.
He told her was he was embarrassed because his thought process was that he really wants to become a pilot. You can find it on RUclips somewhere.
Those vocals are so good!
Foo FIghters the greatest band to ever exist. FIGHT ME
Love Dave sooooo much. I mean he is never not the ultimate great guy in everything. Everlong (- Acoustic version) is my #1 I think.
Everlong will always be my favorite FF song.
That’s Dave Grohl with Tenacious D in the video- Jack Black!
Check out My Hero by them after drummer Taylor Hawkins passed. Taylor’s son , 15 year old Shane on drums, kills it. It’s a tearjerker.
I love the elevator music version of 'Everlong' at the start of the video 😆
I like newer foo fighter..but I love 90’s foo, I’m a foo for foo
Dave Grohl is known as the nicest guy in rock n roll. Listen also to "My Hero", "Everlong", and "Times Like These", which brought on ugly crying after drummer Taylor Hawkins died.
The Foo Fighters love to troll the Westboro Baptist Church and did a drive-by once when they were performing in Kansas City. They drove by in a truck as the Dee Gees performing the disco hit "You Should Be Dancing". Priceless.
Here for your perspective. Doesn't matter if it is the intent of the author/artist or whether it is in agreement with others. Thank you for keeping it real and doing you. ♥
check out "my hero" with the late Tyler Hawkins. and then see the the video with his 17 year old son Shane in the tribute concert, G rohl and Hawkins were friends for about 20 years ...after Curt Cobain died, Grohl was the drummer of Nirvana.
Absolutely 💯 🔥
The best of you is my favorite as well.
YES! YES! YES! Love the Foos! Amazing band, amazing videos!!! ❤❤❤🤘🏼🤘🏼
Love the FFs!!!
Great Band❤❤
If you love Best of You, you'll love Hero.
Love Foo Fighters and I loved this iconic video and song. This was very early for the band, I don’t know if it’s related to death but at the time Dave would still have been processing Curt Colbain’s death. They formed Nirvana together and Foo Fighters was him finding a new path, one that turned out to be more suited to his musical style. I felt so bad for all of them but especially Dave and Taylor’s family when he passed away so unexpectedly and much too young. Taylor was his best friend even during the Nirvana days and those are two huge losses to process.
Love the Foo Fighter's. Such a fantastic band. This song and video are classic. So sad when I see Taylor Hawkins in the videos - RIP! The band has never taken itself seriously and their fans love how genuine they are. The success, fame and money has not changed them. Dave has said the song is about finding inspiration, the search for signs of life that make you feel alive.
You realy should watch the Italina invite for the guys to play, its a mass band and singers, impressive.
I don't know if you seen it or not but Prince sang The Best of You during his Super Bowl performance and it was awesome. If you haven't already you should definitely do a reaction to the whole performance at the Super Bowl that year pretty special in my opinion.❤❤
Dave was in Tribute (the music video) for Tenacious D, Tenacious D returned the favour for Dave.
R.I.P. Taylor.
Time flies, damn.
Dave Grohl plays the devil in Tenacious D's Tribute song btw lol Check out Queens of the Stong age- no one knows. You'll see Dave in that too
That’s a favourite!
I'm late to the Foo party but please review Nandi Bushell, the little girl who played onstage with the Foo Fighters. She is going to do HUGE things!!!!!
I went to their first ever concert in Denver where Dave got hit with flying Mentos. You should do their Mentos video, Big Me.
Monkey wrench is still my fav foo fighters song. Gotta peep monkey wrench bro
Also my fav!!
Great reaction thank you. And yes, Best of you is an absolutely amazing song! But there are so many other brilliant tracks of theirs out there I am look forward too seeing you discover.
Keep peeping game!! The pretender should be next
Hahaha Dave fangirling Dave
"All My Life" and "Monkey wrench" are probably the two songs I would put against "Best of You". I can't say they are better, but those three are my favorites.
The best of you is awesome but Everlong really talks to me as well.
Yeah if you wanna do live performances. you want My Hero performed at the Taylor Hawkins memorial. Taylor.the drummer, died. His teenage son jumped behind the drums for this one. It’s a great performance
Dave Grohl actually played the devil in the tribute video
The Pretender is my jam in the car song!
Monkey wrench is epic.
Love this video
Love listening to this turned up loud when I'm not doing well. Best without the video.
