Started to follow you buddy great work love heroquest myself from the early 90s too the new 2021 version it’s really been amazing for myself.. playing with good friends introducing too new ones and getting me back into painting minis again.
from playing it at GenCon and talking with the team and what we saw... it definitely feels as challenging as The Trial and expect it to be on the level of previous expansions (but not Mage of the Mirror/Frozen Horror which were "broken" in terms of difficulty). this is definitely not "dumbed down" or "simplified." if anything, it's more advanced than the core system.
I would like some new boards, including outdoor settings. Trudding through the same kind of dungeon tends to get a bit boring. There was this fanmade booklet series that could be combined to create dozens of such settings. Imagine for one a dark forest like board, with thick foliage as walls and big vines and bushes for openable "door" to new clearings(rooms). You could easily create new board settings: Forest Maze Old Town/Abandoned Village A Castle/Keep A Mine A Volcanic Cavern Swamp Cave with underground rivers. Ice Caverns (for Frozen horror). Park or Garden tiles. Also pretty much ones needed for homebrewn are an expanded armory deck, treasury deck(including more traps), hero skills, monster/zargon skills, expanded bestiary(you can take minis from other games like the dnd adventure board games), dungeon event deck, different furniture for different maps(like trees/stumps with holes in them for the forest or barrels for the mine), character leveling system and monster difficulty adjustment system, and expanded magic/spell list.
I am going to get it - I was on the fence before playing it for a few reasons - most of all I have everything so far and thought this was going to be re-issing old quests and not new stuff - I am happy to be incorrect about that. Dragon and Hero Sculpts - Additional Game Board (hoping production run is less gloss) - (rumored) Alternate Dice Set and Color - Additional Quests Tiles Tokens and Cards all reasons for me to add this into my collection. Probably wont use the Doors and still debating on my use for the standies (thinking tokens for defeating monsters in a competitive game vs co-op). I think it is well worth the MSRP and at a good price point to attract new customers and small enough of a profile to appease Walmart/Target etc the initial cover art was off putting but they made a quick pivot to make sure their fan base was still with them. Like stated in the video and on others AH wants to know what we want Doug asked me as well and asked if the items they have released so far added or taken away from my personal game experiences. I walked away thinking that HQ is being cared for by people that want it to be successful and enjoyable for its customers. Great video and keep it up - I enjoy the content
@thorsfew64 the US release will happen through Target and is set for January 12th. Preorderd are hapening now! I believe the European release is February.
@TheFair-WeatherMan cheers for the prompt response and clarification. I've only recently got into heroquest (1 week) 🤣😅 and already love it! ... got the base game, RoDMoon and have the jungle of delthrak and spirt queens of torment arriving today! Hooked and learning. Love the simple ease and plastics which allow my inner child to run free. Keep up the great work.👌
I'll grab it. Good portability. I'm surprised AH stated beginning heroes should be able to face any expansion without buffs; try taking out a yeti or polar bar with just 2 defend dice and no healing potions...I don't think so. I'm not sure this new edition is specifically aimed at younger players, the box still declares that the game is for players 14+ just like the current core. I could live with the standees but I suspect AH will release a set of plastic sculpts to replace the cardboard. I love the double sided board. Great video.
@michaelhill6453 I agree, I was shocked by this revelation as well. The Frozen Horror is beast mode for heroes. We ran through the Prelude Quest, Into the Northlands, and all solo quest to beef up the female Barbarian, and we're still getting killed. Don't forget about the Polar War Bears double attack. It's brutal! Thanks for watching!
@@TheFair-WeatherMan Yeah Frozen Horror and Mage of the Mirror are kind of broken out of box. Into the Northlands was AH's way of admitting "this one needs work." an experienced Zargon who cuts out maybe 1/3rd to 1/2 of the monsters and perhaps a third of the traps ... and makes the solo quests into group quests (they're actually a lot of fun with 2-3 heroes... perhaps a bit too easy with 4), will provide a much better experience. otherwise these packs are slogs... grueling grinds trying to complete them compared to the rest. and it's not in a "get gud" kind of way either. Yeti in solo quest is stupid, unless you nerf them (allow hero to break the hold, or simply don't trigger hugs at all in solo, give animal companion, etc).
the new cover is a vast improvement. even knowing the purpose of this set (as cheaper alternative for first time buyers/casuals for retail shelves) I plan to buy this. the combination of the quality of the quest content and the new figures, board, easter eggs (boot tile!) makes me want to reward their efforts even though I have everything else already. would have been nice to get some rounded corner dice, but I guess that's something they won't budge on
@therantcastpodcast I wasn't aware of the boot tile! Cool. Yeah, I'll purchase for my younger son. He loves HQ, but I'm always worried something will go missing or break. The Dragon looks like a Dread Gargoyle. I would have preferred Venim from TCOPD, but I'll wait for a release later. Thanks for watching!
Not to sound rude you sound like your in bathroom lol. Also Anyone that follows Hero Quest like me and others saw Gencon which showed this. I understand lower the cost and making most off the pieces cardboard on plastic stand cheaper but the price going to be 44.00 like one the expansions, my advice just goto Amazon pay from 70-80 get the core set. Im also Dnd player which i have converted some Dnd monsters to HeroQuest and make my own cards working on my own type Monster manual binder with my cards. I also paint my core set and expansions to breath more life into the game. I will buy this set just to add more to my main collection . To be honest the dragon is small i have a DnD Young Dragon mini he takes up 3 by 6 square which i use to replace the black dragon using same stats from HeroQuest. For new players to HeroQuest get this and try it out and old players will get this . Good video besides the sound keep up the Quest..
@nytmaster76 Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I know my mic was not working right at the time of the recording. It's a learning process for sure. I agree, the Dragon could have been more impressive. I would have much rather one like Venim from TCOPD. I too, purchase a lot of sculpts online to add to my dungeon. I love the ability to customize. Thanks for watching.
@pokemonmandag2108 That's what I thought at first, too... but now that you can find the core game system for around $80, it's not that much of a price different to get the minis.
The figures hooked me in and did the same for my daughter. Still, I hope it brings more players in, but they need some fresh art! Seeing the same illustrations over and over is lame!
@MartinPittBradley I'm sure it was a matter of using what they already had to keep the cost down. Personally, I would rather them spend more money on new miniature expansions than more standee art.
I understand the backlash from the" first" Box-Art; I really do. But at least it had "ALL" of the heroes in it. This is just focused on the barbarian???????? Good luck without your party dude. Sends the wrong message to me. One person does not simply defeat a dungeon; ..........................."This is folly". So in looking at both, at least the Older box art "displayed" a "team" game, with "individuals" of different abbilities, powers atributes and skills; as well as weaknesses for all! Thats Why Heroquest, and D&D and WFRP is "team", its "your" party, "your life and death", so hmmmmm. Newer box art is complete shite! IMHO. Great Vid, but disagree on the barb just being the Main as if hes gonna kill everything on his own. Basiclly thats what the box portrays and thats not what its about. rant over lol
