Watched a video of the war cry, that war cry alone got me to watch the show. I laugh every time. Profound and hysterical within 30 seconds. Love this show
This is exactly how my dad and Grandpas tell stories, making random noises, cussing, makes it sound funny, the side pieces like “My nipples are always hard, I’m always hungry” that’s exactly how they would tell the story of their deaths if it was something funny

I'm glad to see someone else noticing it. There are many. Rumble Fish and The Outsiders refrences, both Tulsa based films. I giggle all through every episode when I see these.
This is some excellent dialog. I thing the show is going to be nominated for a few awards for sure. I especially love how it opens with the radio DJ talking - an ode to Smoke Signals, if I am not mistaken.
Sterlin's homages to our beloved cinema is worth the ticket, but there's so much more. This is my Oklahoma. These are my family and friends. These are our stories. The Indigenous writers are brilliant and hilarious, and the stories are true to form. Dallas Goldtooth is the cherry on the sundae with his spirit guide portrayal. Great thanks to Sterlin for telling a helluva story!
I seen something talking about how there are so many indigenous people working on show, it's wonderful honestly and the show seems pretty enjoyable from what I've seen.

Not a spinoff but more of a preview. The 1491s is like the test lab to Reservation Dogs. You can see where Sterlin Harjo got his start in that channel. Plus a lot of the actors in 1491 end up up Reservation Dogs as actors/writers.

I read somewhere that the Elias character in Platoon was written to be Native. Maybe that's why he was a tunnel rat, and why Natives were almost always characterized as point men. And that reason was supposedly based on WWI training of green US troops. Natives and Hispanics tested best in the field when troops were given one look at the obstacle landscape then blindfolded and told to crawl toward an objective, most likely with firing above their heads. The Natives consistently placed first among the troops at point near the objective. Elias being Native makes sense & might change the dynamic of the battle for the souls of the soldiers between him & Barnes.

His horse nodding is his way of saying “sup”
The way he says "fuck I really hated him" absolutely kills me. Fucking brilliant scene, absolutely inspiring to writers
It sounded so genuine, they could have made him say it with disdain or anger, but that fact he just like, yeah fuck that guy.
