Just want to say how much I appreciate your website and videos. As a single woman, you have been invaluable to helping my lawn be the envy of the neighborhood. Thank you!!!
Greetings from Woodstock, GA. I need to get some pre-emergent down, but I wait on trimming the dormant grass until sometime in March or April, when the Bermuda grass has started pushing up. Then I scalp the dormant grass off.The reason is, when you trim or scalp too soon, that Poa Annua will germinate more effectively and start growing like crazy with the extra sunlight. That’s why I leave the dormant grass long, for as long as possible. One year I scalped too early and the Poa Annua went wild! I never had it so bad. If you do trim the grass early, hit it with Image, one or two weeks beforehand. That Image is a good product, but as you said, slow working.
I feel like this winter was particularly tough for winter weeds in this area (I’m in Greenville, SC) because early December it was in the 80s and Christmas week it was in the 70s.
Perfect timing for this video Doc. Thank you! With temps in the 60's yesterday and today, I went out and got some Image for the lawn and sprayed yesterday after my route. Sunday should be a bit cooler, but back up in the 60's the rest of the week. Felt good to get out there.
Nice beard trim. This video is at a perfect time. I have the same weed problem , lots of brown and some green weeded areas. I have already scalped my yard a couple weeks ago. Going to apply Certainly with a shot of Imagine. After it dries in a few days will do a liquid Prodiamine. Later I will put a granular to firm up the invisible layer. Lower 70's all next week in the Charleston area.
I have a 3 acre yard. I have only cut a short section (30 y X 20 y) in my backyard. I bought a Fischer push reel mower last year. To see if I had the time and dedication to keep grass that short. I’m sticking with it. I’m purchasing a 25” . All the rest of my yard is cut and treated by local landscapers.. No where in the rest of my yard has Poe-Anna in it. Why does Poe-Anna only show up on the short section that I mow with the Reel mower? I’ve never had Poe-Anna issues in this section before. Thank you for your time on the videos you make.
Hey doc this fall I plan to kill off my entire front yard and plant kentucky bluegrass. I and going to use roundup kill off lawn thatch put down hunichar should I also put down dirt booster before I plant new seed. Also shoukd I use 10-10-10 or go with a starter fertlizer. Thank you
Another great video! I found and subscribed to your page during late fall/early winter 2021, and I took tons of notes on all your videos. I've been following your lawn guide for Bermuda Grass, documenting everything I'm doing, and I'm excited to see the results as we enter into Spring here in Southern California. Thanks Doc!
Doc I was just wondering what you think about SPECTRACIDE® WEED STOP® FOR LAWNS PLUS CRABGRASS PREVENTER GRANULES it says that it kills annual bluegrass (poa annua) have you tried it and does it work?
Hey doc- I put down new zoysia sod this past October. Is it ok to use negate?? How about pre emergent. I know you say give it one whole growing season.. thanks you rock
Hey Doc, thanks so much for the winter information. Two questions, how soon does the Negate begin to show results (compared to Image) and how long does the outdoor temperature need to hold "warmer" for the Negate or Image to work (north central Ga the daytime temperature can be 60 today and 45 tomorrow or the next day)?
What can you use to kill poa annua on a fescue lawn? It says on the label of the Image herbicide(kills nutsedge-on the label) that you shouldn’t use on fescue?
Doc, Ive got rye grass down but i started to get some nasty lime green weed popping up and I have no idea what it is or how to get rid of it without killing my rye grass. Help!
I have just a few small areas with poa and really don’t want to treat the entire yard. What about just spot treating with Round Up? Seems like we’re far enough from my tiff 419 starting to grow. Any thoughts?
Hey Doc, i like your videos. I have a question? I'm a lawncare technician and on my last company that I was working we used to use Roundup during this time because Bermuda grass goes dormant see a 100% but you said It's not good to use Roundup I just want to see your opinion about this cuz I'm a little bit curious. I work all over Ga. but mostly in Athens
Doc, thx for your videos, being a disabled Iraq war vet your videos are educational as well as therapeutic. I am not to far from you down the road in northeast Paulding County, Rockmart Ga. We recently moved into a new home 3/4 acre flat lot. The house is a 2500 sq ft ranch dead center of the lot. I paid extra for the entire Bermuda yard. They delivered 419 emerald Bermuda. Not to many weed, it did take root but is still new. I put out heavy pre emergent the second week of this last Oct. I’m confused I’m looking for your quick start guide I didn’t know if you had listed it or were going to in a couple of days. It had developed po-Anna slightly only in the back yard. I treated it per this video yesterday. I’m wanting to get out in front of this new yard as I’ve got an investment in it and follow your instructions to the tee. Thx again for what you do in educating us with your vast knowledge. ❤️ best regards Steve
T zone works great during the cold as well. Great ester kills the creeping Charlie and not as harsh as what he uses for the spot spraying. Also it’s cost affective.
Welcome back! Just some feedback, I wish the spray bottles were clear like they used to be. The clear viewing strip is on the sprayer side not the hose side. How are we supposed to check the liquid level without having to shut the valve off... kinda irritating. This is the first year my lawn has less Poa Annua than you! 😀 Why is creeping charlie so hard to get rid off too? Uggg
Doc, is it better to spot treat if winter weeds aren’t out of control or just safer to spray the whole yard instead? I’d say my yard is about like yours at the moment.
Hi Doc new subscriber here. I live in South Jersey and put down tttf sod in October and I wanted to know if I should put down a pre emergent or wait for next season?
Barricade does not seem to work on Poa, maybe has helped but I’m still seeing patches like you have. I’m willing to try Negate, once mixed how long is it good if all is not used right away? Thank you for the videos.
Doc, I treated our lawn with Humichar and pre-emergent 3 weeks ago. About five days later, temps dropped to the 20s for a few days-even some ice here in South Texas; highs were 40s and 50s. Do you think I’ll need to reapply the pre-emergent? We had beautiful tiff tuff Bermuda last season and honestly had almost no weeds. I don’t want to go overboard with the pre-emergent. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks! BTW, Image is a great product. I use it to spot treat as you instructed in a prior video and it does a great job of killing nutsedge. Slow but it works!
Hey Doc, longtime fan...Columbia, Sc with centipede though and have patches of kentucky blue grass but my image and other chemicals do not kill it so I have been digging them up with a weasel weed tool but there is too many...any tips that would take care of it but not kill the sensitive centipede?
I wish I would've watched this video yesterday. Someone told me it was okay to spray dormant Bermuda with glyphosate so i just spot treated my POA with it. Regardless i think it'll be okay being the alpha grass that Bermuda is.
Greetings from Duluth, Ga. Thanks for that reminder, just wish the HOA would watch. I could kill the poa anna but then there's all those seeds that you see on top. I've even gone out and pulled the weed AND put it in my trash can. Another thing is that it grows prolifically where there's spots where water never dries out.
Can anyone answer my question if you got time: with the exception of weeds that make thorns or stickers that hurt when you walk without shoes on your lawn, why do we kill the weeds on the lawn? is it more beneficial to the earth to simply let it go? is the goal simply aesthetics? Thank you all.
Aesthetic. Landscapes play into property value. Sure you can have a lawn of weeds if you want. Turfgrass is a plant and weeds compete for space. Also, atleast lawns are green space and not concrete or asphalt so that's a good thing. Turfgrass is the #1 crop in the United States. It is a $15 billion a year industry!
Hey Doc, is there any flexibility on your “leave it alone the first year”? I have about 5,000 sq ft of Bermuda sod I put down about 7 months ago and it has no weeds. Would like to keep it that way. Can I put down pre-emergent or do I skip it this Spring due to the age of the Bermuda?
I planted Black Jack Bermuda seed this past summer…new lawn…it germinated and thrived with exceptions to partially shaded areas…expected. I want to over-seed the newly established lawn when the temps warm up in North Carolina. Is it ok to kill the Poa Annua on a newly established lawn now (February)?…before getting into the pre emergent application in the early spring? Or should I hold off on winter and spring weed killing all together on a newly established Bermuda lawn?
Hey Doc, With regards to Negate it is best to mix it all at 1 time. Because if you scoop out just a little you may get more of one ingredient than another.
If I’m using Image “red label” on one of your green top hose end sprayer do I need to be concerned about dilution or just that 4 oz is covering 1000 sq ft?
This crap has been so bad this year. I have so many break throughs. So annoying. I had to learn the roundup lesson the hard way. Parts of my yard is still thin from doing that last year around this time and those parts are where I have the most poa.
I used ready to spray Image on my TiffTuff Bermuda lawn last year to kill some nutsedge and it decimated large areas of well-established, very healthy grass. I'll never use Image again!
Hey everybody, and doc. I realize doc cannot answer everyone's questions so I wanted to put this out there for everyone else as well please feel free to comment. I just moved into a home in southeast Tennessee and the previous owner has a pretty good start on a Bermuda lawn. However, there are very large patches of poa annua. If I kill large patches, will I need to reseed my Bermuda to fill in those spots, or just leave it and sacrifice the first year while the Bermuda spreads? Any input would be great! Thank you
We took out a very large Maple tree last May and it completely decimated our front lawn from stump and root grinding. A MASSIVE mound of dirt in the front lawn. I found @How To with Doc about that same time. My neighbors thought I was crazy and it did take about 2 months of constant cutting and pushing. By the end of July, it completely filled in and my lawn never looked better. It not only saved me a ton of money (re-seeding or re-sodding) but I kept the consistency I wanted. Bermuda is an Alpha grass and pushing it like Doc suggests will definitely do the trick. I still look back at the weekly time lapse photos and am amazed at how well it filled in and recovered.
6:10 math, if its complicated to you (not Doc, people in general) don't risk it ... but I bet if you slow down and work it out, you can get it pretty quick
Just want to say how much I appreciate your website and videos. As a single woman, you have been invaluable to helping my lawn be the envy of the neighborhood. Thank you!!!

Hi Doc, love your videos ! I got an acre of centipede grass in Myrtle beach S.C. , which lawn guide is best for me ?
Just do a pre emergent 007 now again in 7 weeks then again Oct and Nov and u will be about 96% weed free
Perfect timing for this video Doc. Thank you! With temps in the 60's yesterday and today, I went out and got some Image for the lawn and sprayed yesterday after my route. Sunday should be a bit cooler, but back up in the 60's the rest of the week. Felt good to get out there.
When I go to the site you recommend a message pops up citing that this site is not available in your region.

what should i do first aerate, preemergent, tenacity, what comes first?
Can we use image or negate on an established Perennial Ryegrass Lawn to kill poa annua or other weeds that come up?
Nice meeting you this morning. When we got home my son said daddy talked to a guy named Doc at the store!
Always said that lad was brilliant... 😄
I have a 3 acre yard. I have only cut a short section (30 y X 20 y) in my backyard. I bought a Fischer push reel mower last year. To see if I had the time and dedication to keep grass that short. I’m sticking with it. I’m purchasing a 25” .

I have tall fescue lawn what can I used to treat Pao Annua?
So I can scoop out the amount I need from the Negate bottle? Or I have to mix the entire bottle at once?
I'm only doing 3000sq ft

Can I spray Image on a seeded bermuda lawn that is starting to germinate to kill Poa?

Hi doc,can I mix Image and chelated iron together in a sprayer for st Augustine and Bahia grass?
Just curious, have you ever considered dethatching and then doing a controlled burn to “scalp.”
Hey doc- I put down new zoysia sod this past October. Is it ok to use negate?? How about pre emergent. I know you say give it one whole growing season.. thanks you rock
Hey Doc, do you recommend tenacity with surfactant? Just wondering on your opinion on that.
Read the label. It will tell you.
Hey Doc, thanks so much for the winter information. How do I kill wild onions growing spotty in my Bermuda? Only notice them in the winter since the grass is dormant

I can find thousands of little green shoots all over the yard if I dig through the brown. So NO... never use roundup.
Hey Doc, I recently moved into a home in October. I have a sodded Bermuda lawn. Can I still treat for winter weeds and lay down pre-emergent?
Doc, thx for your videos, being a disabled Iraq war vet your videos are educational as well as therapeutic. I am not to far from you down the road in northeast Paulding County, Rockmart Ga. What about T-zone? I’ve had amazing results killing winter weeds during weather permitting stay windows in western Tennessee.

Bermuda stuff is back, yaayy!! Hey Doc, what’s wrong with doing full scalp before green haze shows up?

Celsius herbicide

Hey Doc, does the store bought image have surfactant in it alrrady?
My go to guy. Thanks for the content.
Thanks for the video! How can I tell if what's popping is Poa annua or of it's legit grass
I planted Black Jack Bermuda seed this past summer…new lawn…it germinated and thrived with exceptions to partially shaded areas…expected.

Doc coupon not working at checkout
If you're buying something on sale already, then that's the lowest it goes. What were you buying?
Welcome back to GA Doc!
Over here in Calif we're limited to what products to use on Bermuda...all the good stuff is banned!
i just pull it out lol, easy to spot when everything is brown
So will these work in cool season as selective post emergent? I have just been pulling it or glyphosate.
Yes Doc your beautifu facel 😍 😘 🤩 😊 😍 😘 !!!!
On a thick lawn like Barb to get it low...Do you do multiple cuts by days or cutting by lowering level on each pass and in one day?
Well the Negate is good for spot spraying, but I use Certainty, good for Poa, good for sedges in summer, does nothing to Bermuda.
Is it okay to blanket spray the entire lawn with broadleaf and grassy weed killer at same time
Hey Doc how much water to mix with the quarter teaspoon? And I just ordered 2 bags of humic DG I love that stuff
Hey Doc, With regards to Negate it is best to mix it all at 1 time. Because if you scoop out just a little you may get more of one ingredient than another.
What about cool weather grass treatment for poa-annua?
Thought pre emergent goes down in early Feb?
When do i apply pre emergent in new jersey
Just a thought, last fall I discovered Army worms in my yard and surrounding yards. I notified the HOA so that others were aware.
Great content as always. Which herbicide are you using to treat your fairway?
If I’m using Image “red label” on one of your green top hose end sprayer do I need to be concerned about dilution or just that 4 oz is covering 1000 sq ft?
Nice to see the Bermuda again!

Non-Selective herbicides on dormant lawn or any lawn, unless a certain turf type is non-desirable to the owner. That’s what we call weeds !
🧐Why not use roundup on the weeds given the Bermuda is dormant? Quick kill and down to the roots! 🤔
I don’t know what kind of lawn I have, help!
You shouldn't have any poa if you pre em in the fall...
I just sprayed my Image 👌
Already on the schedule for this weekend to kill these winter weeds!
I have 55k sqft of bermuda w poa grass in it.... yikes..
Come on 65 degrees is not hot!
Hey doc can do me favor Can you email me your guidebook your video helps me out alot over here in the BAHAMAS 🇧🇸
Have tremendous success with princep (Simozine) for winter weed control as Pre emergent; have used as post emergent control for Poa and rescue.
