    Truck gear & truck edc. I’m a firm believer in this!! I had an ‘85 F150 Ext Cab truck it had dual 20 ga fuel tanks, 6’ bed, 5.0 V8. I lived the first half of my life growing up in Tampa, FL, that truck even though it was 2wd went every where I needed it to go, pulled a 20’ flatbed trailer hauling logs stack 3’ high from front to back off road through mud and sand. Then I moved to TN and every time I left the pavement in the mountains there was always an incline of some degree, the dew didn’t burn off till late in the afternoon so the grass would always be wet. So if I left the pavement or gravel roads my 2wd truck would just start spinning on the wet ground and on an incline would start sliding down grade and I would constantly get stuck no traction. We’re talking back in ‘96-‘97 they didn’t have traction boards then. So lesson learned!!!
    IMO, a truck/suv is NOT a truck/suv w/o 4wd…! That said today, I won’t buy a truck/suv that isn’t 4wd. And if you own a truck/suv you GOT TO have “recovery gear” period. If you drive trials and spend ANY amount of time off road you need a winch, traction boards, & recovery gear (snatch straps, tree straps, blocks, shackles, soft shackles, shovel, etc)!
    But I’m also extremely SERIOUS about having my “Truck EDC” as well. 99% of the time if you go anywhere you are driving. Yes I have my EDC I carry on body everywhere and I carry also. But you drive most of the time you leave the house so the “Truck EDC” is the next obvious extension of that EDC. You carry a spare tire, jumper cables or I prefer a jump pack, a quart of oil, maybe transmission fluid, brake fluid, extra ga of antifreeze or just a ga of water incase you need to add water to the radiator, tools incase of breakdowns. So why not always have a blanket, gloves, change of clothes, drinking water. I carry so I normally have atleast 2 spare mags on person. But I also have 3 spare mags for my carry in my truck that stay in my truck, I have spare AR mags so when I have my AR with me (I don’t always take the AR w me) I have spares in the truck always.
    I have EDC on person. I have Truck EDC in each vehicle (I only drive Trucks/SUVs) that extend my EDC when I’m away from home. Then I have my “Go Bag” which goes everywhere with me. My “Go Bag” is multi purpose and packed for 72 hrs.

    God bless you bro. Wish I stumbled on your channel sooner. I wasn't into the idea of prepping, living further from the city, be more self sustaining until God lead my wife and I through a bunch of things during the coco-demic in 2020. Got our first fire arms, stored many food and water, survival supplies, natural remedies with plants, praying to have a home higher into the mountains, etc. Will be learning up through your vids. Respect for sharing your faith in Christ. All this means nothing if our eternal destination is doomed.

  • @Ella_Vande
    @Ella_Vande Год назад +2

    I love that you’re talking about this! I think one thing that I haven’t heard much about but is an incredibly important part of prepping is this: make sure you own your things. Get out of debt as quickly as possible. Sure, the grid could go down and ownership could be a matter of possession, but if this inflation rate continues how it is and you have debt you can’t pay, banks aren’t just going to stop repossessing cars and foreclosing on houses on account of the economy.
    Sometimes I think people are so focused on the “exciting” scenarios that they forget about the mundane. Personally, if something crazy does happen, I’d prefer to ride it out in my home than a tent in the middle of the woods. My kids and husband would be much more comfortable here.

    • @WarPoet-In-Training
      @WarPoet-In-Training Год назад +1

      I've gone back and forth in my head about this too. Like you said, if there's a *sudden* post apocalyptic event, then debt won't matter, but if it's a slow decline into chaos, then there will be a period of time where paying bills might put a person or a family under immense pressure.

    • @Ella_Vande
      @Ella_Vande Год назад

      @@WarPoet-In-Training there were many times in the past few years where I looked at my husband and told him “Thank God we payed off our house when we did. If we didn’t I don’t know how we’d put food on the table.” I honestly don’t know how other people are making it now. A couple years ago I was paying about $130 on groceries for our family of 5. Now it’s $200+ almost every week. I homeschool our kids and take care of the house. I view it as part of my job to save money. It’s getting harder and harder now. The more we get into this mess the more it’s looking like a slow collapse to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    26:15 I've been there too man. For the longest time I just got away from God, and I thought hey well I'm a good person so I we don't need God to be good people but then in 2017 I saw the way things were going and how people were acting and it became clear that people do need God in order to be good. I also came to the realization that I am a good person because of God .. Somewhere down the line all of our ancestors here were Christians and so they passed down the teachings through the generations. That's why we believe what we believe in terms of morals and such.

    I don’t have a “Get Home Bag”, if I intend to get home I have what I need in my “Go Bag”. I don’t have a “Bugout Bag”, I don’t intend to ever “Bugout” if I can ever avoid it, period! Now I understand I could be forced out of my house, for which I have a plan and a destination. But I intend to then take as much with me in my trucks as I can possibly load, ONLY if I ever have to abandon my vehicle do I ever plan to use “a bag”, & if that happens you be screwed no matter how much you “prepare” for it anyways! The day I have to “Bugout” and then am forced to abandon my vehicle down the road somewhere, decide what i need to strip down to bare minimum and put in a bag to survive for an unknown amount of time possibly indefinitely, well at that moment you are screwed no matter how well you plan or prepare for it!!!
    On this note let’s be honest. I could survive with the clothes on my back and 1 change of clothes. Then priority 1 is water so something to gather/hold water. Minimum 1qt/1ltr container preferably metal single wall so I can boil water. A filtration system, & purification tablets. I carry a pocket knife but also need a good fixed blade then. Fire, several ways to make fire. I can use a bow to start a fire but the energy that costs who really wants to, be realistic last resort.
    Security, you’ve been forced to “Bugout” leave most of your supplies, now you’re on foot (all this sucks ass already) but you need to protect yourself and what very little you have left (you WILL be a target now)! You now need to travel unseen if possible so if you can safely travel at night that’s when you travel and rest during the day. I carry so I’m sacrificing some comforts for more ammo in my bag at this point (in a Bugout scenario I also have my carbine). Yes ammo is extra weight that could be used for food etc, but what good is all the supplies you can carry if you can’t protect yourself and said supplies. Ideally you also need lightweight high protein snacks. You might be able to snare, trap, fish, hunt small game along the way, scavenge food and supplies. You can’t count on this, but it’s absolutely possible. Your bag should NOT exceed 20% of your body weight! You have to carry your bag no one else is going to! And if you are part of a group EVERY body should have their OWN bag, even the kids, & yes even the dog. If the dog is with you the dog should carry it OWN gear, I’m not carrying my dogs food and water bowl he can. You can argue the pros and cons of a dog all day long. The military uses them in spec ops, so real world real life a trained dog can be a real resource! It doesn’t have to be an “operator/police K9” it just needs to have good training. Listen & obey commands, not a yappy always barking dog. Preferably a breed that makes most people stop and think as soon as they see it.

    Nice video summary, man. Homestead is for sure a big one and a lifelong journey of learning. Been working on that journey of raising our own food here lately, a few cows, layers, annually raising meatbirds in the spring. Training/Skillz - get on your local volunteer fire department, invest the time in getting your BLS EMT and keep your textbooks! Not only will you gain some vital knowledge, you will build excellent relationships for your tribe. Setup on propane, water well, pond, just installed a wood stove in the house last fall. I need to spend some time on backup electricity, have a generator but that's not a great long term solution.

    Hey Mike, maybe a topic for the future, but a question for you: What are your thoughts on preparedness in a modern city with regards to civil unrest/lawlessness, and specifically theft? I've noticed my EDC and preparedness take has changed a lot over the last few years as smash and grabs have more or less become ubiquitous anywhere, small or large towns. I don't want my expensive gear to get stolen out of the truck, so I keep a much lighter load whenever I go into town, but it feels like adding/removing and tailoring for every single situation, which is time consuming and stressful to imagine every situation that can happen.
    Like you talk about in this video, skills are knowledge, which don't actually take weight. Being skilled and resourceful really changes the amount of 'things' you take, especially if you're thinking about theft when you're away from your vehicle and downtown.

      If you are going into a city, Seattle can be our example, keep your stuff on you. I lived there for years and was also former LEO, so I know better than to leave gear/weapons in my truck. Well, I left my expensive recovery kit in my truck one night this summer and it got taken. Luckily no weapons inside. My bad.

    Mike I’ll agree with a multi tool even though I don’t currently have one in my edc. I had one of the original leathermans when they first came out back in like 1992ish. I carried and used it everyday as a lineclearance tree trimmer and climber. There were instances up in a tree I would use the saw blade in it to make smaller cuts rather than use the much larger handsaw on my side that I had to pull out of the sheath use and resheath. It had a wood handle a 20”ish blade was kinda heavy to use for smaller like 1/2” 1” cuts. But I used the knife blade all the time and the screwdriver wand can opener and the needle nose pliers of course.
    That all said, I prefer a good pocket knife for knife things. I’m not knocking the multi tool knife blades but if I need to use a sharp blade to cut I am using my Kershaw pocket knife. I’ve used Kershaw for over 20 years now, they use quality steel that holds a good edge for a long time. Even when not razor sharp they hood an edge that cuts. And they don’t break the bank like some of the other quality brands out there.

Im curious how to prepare for that situation. Alot of what you say is valuble and practical. I know my thinking is worst case scenerio.

      If people are at the point of bugging out, the government neither cares, has the resources, or is good enough at their job to track you down.
