KBS presents the two-part series "[Dokdo Chronicle]" as part of its 50th anniversary special on December 6th and 7th. Every decade, KBS has captured the nature and ecosystem of Dokdo with the highest contemporary production quality and technology, transforming it into documentaries. This two-part "Dokdo Chronicle" vividly showcases the appearance of Dokdo in the 2020s, including the Twilight Zone, which has never been revealed before, in unprecedented ultra-high-definition 8K. Over a period of approximately two years, the production team captured the intricate contours and scars of Dokdo through on-site reporting in both domestic and international locations such as Dokdo, Ulleungdo, Jeju Island, and Japan, presenting them with sensory visual aesthetics. Furthermore, collaborating with marine biologists from the MABIK (National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea), the top technical diving team in Korea, geologists, and others, the series conveys the vividness and vitality of Dokdo's environment.
    ■ Over 100 years ago, Dokdo was the land of Dokdo Sea Lions
While many people are familiar with Dokdo, few know about Dokdo sea lions. However, over 100 years ago, Dokdo was indeed the land of sea lions. It is estimated that as many as 40,000 abalones inhabited the island. Yet, why have they become extinct today? It is impossible to discuss Dokdo without mentioning the history of Dokdo sea lions. From 1904 to 1940, they were annually caught by Japanese fishermen. Abalones taken from Dokdo were stripped of their shells and turned into boots and bags, becoming luxury items for soldiers. How much do we truly know about the deep wounds and unhealed history of Dokdo?
