  • The following is my (poor) attempt at trying to record and capture the 'Gannon' solar storm back in May, from Tasmania. As i'm primarily a stills guy, I was not prepared at all to video during the night, and so I was fumbling my way through the camera to try and capture a few moments of what i was witnessing. I'd say the Sony A7IV did ok but I really needed an A7S :( I probably would have had better luck if i recorded using s-log and post-processed, but in-between photographing it and visually watching it, I'm happy with the end result. I think they capture the essence of that night which was the intense colours, coronas and pulsations we all witnessed and marveled at.
As you'll see I was constantly having to battle which side of the horizon to photograph and video, as the 'southern' lights became the 'northern' lights and everything in-between :) The real magic had started around ~9:30PM.
For reference, the ocean faces directly south. Hope you enjoy :)
Note: Make sure to watch in 1080p (it may default to much lower res). Also I have a time lapse from my still which you can watch here • Tasmania, Hobart Auror... if interested.
    Equipment used: Sony A7IV + Viltrox 16mm@f1.8
Music: Interstaller Main Theme - Hans Zimmer
