I know Jerry probably still harbours resentment towards Jim because of everything that went on while filming "Man On The Moon" but that was 20 years ago. The reason jim never warmed up to lawler on set was because of the doc being filmed and the rest of the cameras . If cameras were around when Andy and lawler were in the same vecenity andy always stayed In the character that him and lawler were enemies . This was lost on lawler because the depth was a little much . Good point Jerry, at 9:50, that the role was a spiritual shift for Jim Carrey. I think it was the straw that broke the camel's back - being someone else for so long he saw through the illusion of self.

In Lawler's autobiography he says he couldn't get Carrey to understand that he and Andy were friends in real life. Carrey couldn't get past the 'wrestling enemies' aspect.

Yeh okay be upset at Jim but to disrespect Elvis? Any of us would kill to have that Guitar and signed by the King. Yet Jerry just acts like his above everyone...
Is it possible Jim has heard over the years being bad mouthed by Lawler about working with him on the movie and decided to do this is a rib! (speculation and not even sure if Lawler made many negative comments about Jim Carrey post the movie.)
That is still pretty cool. But I have to go with my standard comment. When this subject comes up. If you're going to have a celebrity wing on the HOF. How in the blue hell do you not have Andy Kaufman in it?
JC assumed Lawler knew how to contact him cuz he sent him the robe. Why'd JC go artsy & reclusive? He cold dumped & shut off from his gf Jenny Mcarthy and her autistic kid who had bonded to JC, and was reportedly very tight fisted. Her Stern interview indicates he is kind of hard to get close to. JC and Kaufman were so far out there to get laughs. But, too much of JC went sexual and very inappropriate for my tastes. JC's movies appealed to kids but were very sexually inappropriate. That Man on the Moon role put Carrey in touch with fatality: Kaufman suddenly went from diagnosis to dead in a few months. Andy was duped into fake psychosurgery and JC played that utterly devastated moment in the movie very well, even if Andys closest friends / family say JC got the role mostly wrong and too aggressive. Andy sounds much nicer in person. Sort of like the Harpo Marx character who acted mute, Harpo never allowed his voice to be recorded or spoke in interviews because the "magic" would be tarnished, Kaufman was playing a role that included trying to be hated, "A bad guy." But, he was acting. No return address on that gift from JC? No manager to get hold of him? Would Lawler actually want to talk to JC about life, death, meaning when he calls JC weird? That Kaufman-Lawler slap on Letterman is still one of tv's highest rated moments. Genius entertainment, some ad-libbing and being on the edge, like Robin Williams, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Jim Belushi, Chris Farley... all dead. No more quest for laughs. Maybe JC wanted "more." JC has all the $$$ he could ever need. But, having achieved his comedy dreams, whats next? On a search for what matters after all material wealth, fame, and influence connections were far surpassed. Give any of us that and who knows what would happen... peace to JC but Lawler could easily contact him if he really tried. Nice letter. Very heartfelt. Classy. Thankful. Genuine.
Extreme method acting in which the actor never breaks character is silly nonsense. Just because that's what they need to do in order to "act" doesn't mean everyone else on the set has to suffer. A great artist doesn't need to annoy his fellow artists.
I disagree! Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor of all time (the only male to win 3 Oscars for Best Actor) and he adopts extreme method acting. If those around method actors don't like it.....then stay out of their way until you have to shoot your scenes.
Some roles require that level of immersion. While Jim definitely overdid it and came across as a jackass, he was doing what Marlon Brando does to get into character.
