replacing the chain drive drilling the brake rotor porting the track all contribute to less weight but more importantly it all adds up to less rotating mass which also equals more usable power.. nice job Louie
Louie, great channel you got here man. My taste for videos comes and goes, I've watched quiet a bit of your stuff then when spring hits and snow melts I stop watching. But each time I come back I remember how well spoken and entertaining your content is, even the old stuff. Keep it up!
The 800's have had issues with the injection nipples falling out of the case, you can't keep an eye out on things like that - the motor is dead before you catch it. On a new sled I leave injection, on old ones I remove it - pretty much most of the time. And, this way I always know the mixture it is getting.
Hey David! Not sure I can make it - we'll just be finishing up in Toronto the week before and I need to get on another build as soon as I get home. We are planning on hitting haydays next year for sure, then we'll see what we can do for others.
I love the mad scientist, rich Daley .. He is the go to guy about performance..he tells it like it is.. Some companies r pulling 15 hp out of a pipe.. He had dyno other competoters stuff and he will tell u facts no bs just facts.. Great guy and knows his stuff
Nicetry64: Not everything is as one dimensional in life as throwing money at something. There can be a huge amount of fun in building up your own sled piece by piece. Not only can you take pride in something you that crafted with your own two hands, but the knowledge gained can be a huge asset on the trails when things go wrong, not only for you, but for friends and strangers. Men build, break, learn, break again, adapt. Perfectly fine to disagree with the process or outcome, but it is just silly to mock the passion or skills of someone willing to take the time to share those skills with others. I have learned a hundred things from Louis that will save me hours in the shop and even more time broken down on the side of the trail for years to come.
Hey P.M., Fun Fun, i haven't had a sled since i was a kid, grew up in NewHampshire; looks like buying a used sled and outfitting it with modern technology and idea's would be Enjoyable..
PowerModz: OK, so are you really saving weight by deleting the oil reservoir? You didn't reduce the amount of oil you carry - you just increased it (for the same travel distance) and changed the place you store it. You now store it in the gas tank. And you increased it because now you run premix at the richer ratio you need at full throttle when if you had injection it reduces the ratio from wide open all the way down to a much leaner ratio at idle. So that means you use more oil when premixing than you would with a properly set up injection since with premix you run the same ratio at all rpm's. So for the same travel distance, you are carrying more weight in fuel and oil than you would need with injection. You are still carrying gas and oil, it's just all in one place in the tank instead of in two seperate places. All the weight you really lost is the pump and tubes. If you wanted to carry less fuel and oil weight you could have accomplished the same thing by not filling your gas tank and oil reservoir as full. So now with no oil reservoir you've reduced your range before you run out of fuel since the premixed oil is now displacing some of the gasoline in the tank.
Would drill holes in the running boards and parts of the tunnel affect performance at all? I've got a PRS Ski Doo thats got some pretty heavy running boards and tunnel so I'm wondering the best way to shed weight and not affect the performance or the structure.
Hey Louis I have a 99 rmk 136 and I have the stock seat on should I ditch it or keep it I've been thinking about a short seat but idk how it would look
i want to get a lighter seat for my rev and i really like that skinz one but it says its only for summit 146 or longer, right now mine is only a 121. do you know why it says 146 or if it will still work. if not what seat should i get wrp or boss or other??
Hey what do you think is the best mod I can do to my 05 700 rmk to make it have more power? It already has a pipe and can, v force 3s and a rebuilt motor with better Pistons.
Louie, I just bought my first sled it’s a 2005 MXZ Rev 500ss. Only thing I had to have done was added a new throttle cable. One thing I want to do is put a longer tunnel and longer track. Do you have a video of you adding a longer tunnel to your Rev?
Hello :) I'm going to buy those running boards and I have a Yamaha cs 340 1990 and I do not know which one will fit best. what do you have? I have tengte buying from skinzprotectivegear, do you have those made for ski-doo rev? :)
If your seat in embedded with the gas tank, then yes. Some snowmobiles do have clips hidden you can pull by hand and that will detach the seat from the tank.
Hey bud! I wanted to ask you something. Sometime down the road I am planning on buying a new Skidoo, I have been snooping around C3 Powersports and seen all of the carbon fiber stuff they have, my friend had told me that aluminum is lighter than carbon fiber which I do not think is true. I wanted to get your confirmation since you ordered from them, I did research and apparently high quality aluminum is lighter but... Is Carbon fiber lighter, stronger than aluminum? Thanks, cheers!
What is the best way to clean my clutches without taking them apart i havent done anything to them since i bought the sled last year but thy seem very dirty inside and i havent had time to make my conpression tool for it but ii am changing my track so thought it be a good time to clean them. Oh and i will be doing some mods to lighten up my sled as well ;)
Wolfpack Survival I would say that a good start would be a suspension swap. The rear suspension really lacks in those old vmax's and they are very heavy. Get one from a late 90's early 2000's Polaris, cat, or doo. It will make it so that the suspension actually does something and it reduces weight in the back. That is the only mod I can really suggest for that sled other than maybe getting better running boards and maybe a small seat like on this video. Anything else and imo you are asking too much of it.
Which skid would you recommend for a 96 Indy 500. I’d like to do a 136. The 97 rmk should fit or with a bit of modification? Thanks in advance man. Videos are super helpful
Just throwing my two cents in, Im not sure i really get why you got rid of the oil injection. you still have the weight of the oil in your gas tank and you wont be able to hold as much gas plus you probably shouldnt leave mixed gas sitting to long from what i hear. In my mind i think it would be better to have it and just keep tabs on how well that cable and other oil injection stuff is working. But all the other suggestions im on board with! I want those running boards bad.... real bad.
Whats the current weight on your skidoo? diffrence between now and when you bought the machine? if you know youre not traveling long distances that day you can save some fuel by not filling it up all the way.
sablanex Do you actually know the main reason why it's done? Because it helps the skid drop the snow that accumulates in it, therefore a weight loss. The secondary reason is the dead weight of the holes cut out. You can call it retarded all you like, but it works.
The tensile strength of a sled track is astronomical when compared with what the sled can exert on it. So yes, the holes do weaken it some, but the track is so damn strong before hand that the added weakness of the holes does not come close to the breaking point of the track. When tracks break, it's because it's been torn (usually badly) or torn out lugs have ripped out a chunk of the tensile belt inside the track. But those precut holes, meh they don't weaken it much.
I like people say that cause old sleds aren't even that bad personally I have a 1995 ski doo formula 380 sport and I put a cold air intake and bigger jets in the carbs and it will do 90 indicated probably 85 in reality and you may say that's slow but keep In mind it's only a 380
some cost nothing, some cost something, all cost a lot, pick and choose to meet your budget. All in all a person with an older sled can mod it to perform as close as or sometimes better than a newer sled for less money - that's what I like to show. Thanks for watching!
If the manufacturers were serious about weight savings, why not use a hi output liquid cooled single cylinder? They would never put a twin or triple in a motocross bike. Same concept.
INCORRECT. There's a reason that supercars have V12 engines, believe me, they care about weight but they've found that smaller more efficient cylinders are efficient enough to overcome the gains of a less cylinders. Otherwise supercars would be giant one cylinder engines. There's rotational mass to consider, there's volumetric efficiency and a slew of other factors I could sit and name and explain. There's a reason that 500cc motocross bikes went away and that engines like the (quad) banshee's 175x2 =350cc motor makes so much power for the year it was made, it's because it's a twin. It's also the reason that in superbikes Ducati get's more cc's to offset their japanese x5 or x4 motors that make more hp in the same weight package/size.
merc marc No, it would be really slow. A polaris 550 fan puts out 60 hp, a cr 500 too. A 600cc liquid cooled snowmobile has about 120 hp, twice that of a cr 500
I'd like to see someone try pull start my Apex! An in line 4cyl at 998cc, With a rope pull starter! that's not going to happen! She weighs 670lbs, she's a fat girl! But smooth! and I love her! I hope to see you this year Nov1 - Nov3 at the Novi Michigan SnowShow!
Yeah sure your loosing alot of weight, but your also getting rid of the luxury items like oil injection, e-start, reverse, and most importantly the overall look of the sled. I'm sorry but the sled is pretty damn ugly.
Ok....so you just like to look at the pics then? This is RUclips right.....but thanks for watching and Merry Christmas. Please send me links to your videos so I can check them out!

I just took the motor out of mine. Things really light and runs awesome
replacing the chain drive drilling the brake rotor porting the track all contribute to less weight but more importantly it all adds up to less rotating mass which also equals more usable power.. nice job Louie
yes exactly, i do that often. hmm I can't remember before and after weights - I think I mentioned it in a video though.
Louie, great channel you got here man. My taste for videos comes and goes, I've watched quiet a bit of your stuff then when spring hits and snow melts I stop watching. But each time I come back I remember how well spoken and entertaining your content is, even the old stuff. Keep it up!
Hey thanks very much for that! More coming!

Matthew Mohs so true!
Sometimes it nice to take a load off out in the bush!!
came here from the video of you guys driving the old ones around. This is good stuff. Subscribed for suree
“Usually you’d have to spend hundreds of dollars to make it lighter” proceeds to tell you how to spend hundreds of dollars to make it lighter
How much does your sled weigh?
Hey David! Not sure I can make it - we'll just be finishing up in Toronto the week before and I need to get on another build as soon as I get home. We are planning on hitting haydays next year for sure, then we'll see what we can do for others.
I love the look of this sled I am dead set on building a light weight big bore like this
Really cool video. I just wished you would link all the products in the video description.
I love the mad scientist, rich Daley .. He is the go to guy about performance..he tells it like it is.. Some companies r pulling 15 hp out of a pipe.. He had dyno other competoters stuff and he will tell u facts no bs just facts.. Great guy and knows his stuff
Take the all the stickers off that'll make it lighter!!
but they add horse power
Awesome Louis! I'm a yammi guy but a very interesting video non the less.

Hey P.M., Fun Fun, i haven't had a sled since i was a kid, grew up in NewHampshire; looks like buying a used sled and outfitting it with modern technology and idea's would be Enjoyable..
Would be cool to see a vid on weight savings for utility style sleds. I know there are some things in this that are probably universal.
PowerModz: OK, so are you really saving weight by deleting the oil reservoir? You didn't reduce the amount of oil you carry - you just increased it (for the same travel distance) and changed the place you store it. You now store it in the gas tank. how much weight did u shed off of it
Hey Louis what are the two handles on the sled for, ones the pull cord the other is......
Either freestyle? or that is just an ordinary pullcord
Marcus Paterson it's hos sno bungie
Where is the "Pre-season workout" video? Is it uploaded to RUclips?
So what is the before and after weight on that thing then?
Hey brother! just wondering if i delete my oil pump injection system on an indy 500 from 95? what carb should i go with for premixed injection?
How much weight did it lose in the end?
Lithium battery swap if your keeping starter
Would drill holes in the running boards and parts of the tunnel affect performance at all? I've got a PRS Ski Doo thats got some pretty heavy running boards and tunnel so I'm wondering the best way to shed weight and not affect the performance or the structure.
Hey Louis I have a 99 rmk 136 and I have the stock seat on should I ditch it or keep it I've been thinking about a short seat but idk how it would look
can i get lighter hoods for a 2005 polaris fusion it was only a 2 year sled
Will a 07 summit x seat or a mxz 440 seat fit on my 04 renegade 600 without too much of a hassle getting it on.
i want to get a lighter seat for my rev and i really like that skinz one but it says its only for summit 146 or longer, right now mine is only a 121. do you know why it says 146 or if it will still work. if not what seat should i get wrp or boss or other??
I was looking on getting some plastic skis for my safari 377, any suggestions? P.S I am a beginner
Hey Louie i have a 98 ski doo 583 where can I find a skins seat
Is oil injection delete really worth it for a few pounds? That's pretty crazy to me but I guess if you really want to cut down...
Good tips how bout ditching sway bar
I have a 2005 summit 1000. I'm having a hard time finding aftermarket running boards. Any ideas?
Billy Hein, hein racing on backcountryrebels.com
Hey what do you think is the best mod I can do to my 05 700 rmk to make it have more power? It already has a pipe and can, v force 3s and a rebuilt motor with better Pistons.
What's the best, quietest can for 600 rev? I don't know which one to get
Louie, I just bought my first sled it’s a 2005 MXZ Rev 500ss. Only thing I had to have done was added a new throttle cable. One thing I want to do is put a longer tunnel and longer track. Do you have a video of you adding a longer tunnel to your Rev?
oh ya for sure - check out the build series!
How much does a headlight delete do
Where can u get the running boards from
How does the front end on your rev sit higher than stock?
how much does that really weigh
Contact Greg at Jaws performance, he makes trail cans, they are toned down.
Hello :) I'm going to buy those running boards and I have a Yamaha cs 340 1990 and I do not know which one will fit best. what do you have? I have tengte buying from skinzprotectivegear, do you have those made for ski-doo rev? :)
How much does that sled weigh?
Total weight reduction in the sled ?
How am I supposed to get rid of the seat because that’s is where the gas is stored?
If your seat in embedded with the gas tank, then yes. Some snowmobiles do have clips hidden you can pull by hand and that will detach the seat from the tank.
whats a better rear skid, indy light or the edge? im modding a 94 indy supersport. Im a fairly aggressive rider but I still want comfort
your input is greatly appreciated!!
check specs, dont spend too much on them - you can get a good take off skid for cheap.
Hey bud! I wanted to ask you something. the only way to clean them is to take them apart
did that skinz seat fit on to the sled originally?
Alexander SF it is very easy to put it on there.
so...I have a vmax 500 xtc -97 so if i want to make it lighter i need to change the hood to a lighter one? Plz give me tips on that old sled

Steven Vanheel thnx I will do that and see the difference!
Good answer, I love what your doing keep it up!
this is probably a stupid qustion but i cant get my metal skis off of my 1996 indy 500 EFI could you make a video or something on it?
the bolt is probably seized inside the bushing - you gotta cut or heat.
okay it worked thanks
Which skid would you recommend for a 96 Indy 500. I’d like to do a 136. The 97 rmk should fit or with a bit of modification? Thanks in advance man. Videos are super helpful
Anything you can get in there cheap
@@PowerModzOfficial lol yes that was the question
I wear a vest:) But it is coming off.
why do you have two cranks
what is the best ski doo or arctic cat snowmobile to mod or customize
I prefer cat but they are both good it just what you prefer
123dicer what about model
123dicer what about model
haydays in minnesota ?
What's that sled weighs you trick that thing out I bet the power to weight ratio on that sled just gets up and move
my 1992 indy lite is direct drive , its really light!
how would i lighten it up a bit more?
Newer skids and new tracks not only more efficient but lighter
I love that rev, thinking about buying one, how much should i pay for a rev 600ho?
3000
what are you using for screen for the holes you cut?
looks like cat proof window screen they sell at homey depot
how can i lighter my 1983 yamaha srv how can i
why is there two pull starts
Just throwing my two cents in, Im not sure i really get why you got rid of the oil injection. you still have the weight of the oil in your gas tank and you wont be able to hold as much gas plus you probably shouldnt leave mixed gas sitting to long from what i hear. I read a comment u wont make it to novi darn will u be able to make it next year
How many pounds have you shed off that sled total?
I think it weighed 447
lose electric start and reverse? iv got my limits
With all these mods, wouldnt it cost just as much as a brand new sled?
prob so. If your sled is to slow buy a faster sled. This video is a joke.
nicetry64 nope - you are wrong - but thanks for watching!
No, try pricing out a new sled:)
What’s total weight of your machine?
I think it was 447 pounds
Whats the current weight on your skidoo? diffrence between now and when you bought the machine?
if you know youre not traveling long distances that day you can save some fuel by not filling it up all the way.
After 5 questions about the weight. Finally, we'll never know how much that sled's weight
+siikboy 447 lbs
"Jaws cans are quiet" -more bullshit xD
Pretty LOUD as hell i could say😅yessir
Cutting holes in the track for a few pounds must be the most stupid think ever.
ski-doo did it stock on 2006 summits.
UncleBubbles94 still stupid, and if done from factory, you should have warranty.
sablanex Do you actually know the main reason why it's done? Because it helps the skid drop the snow that accumulates in it, therefore a weight loss. The secondary reason is the dead weight of the holes cut out. You can call it retarded all you like, but it works.
Didn't think of that, but it still feels like it's going to break a lot easier.
I weight 350 lbs lol. I can put all the titanium in the world on a sled and I'm still running a heavy rig. I have to put more power in
All that work & $$$ on that old dinosaur when you just could have bought a PRO RMK!!!
Already done for you!!!
haha yeah man thats what i was thinking!
I like people say that cause old sleds aren't even that bad personally I have a 1995 ski doo formula 380 sport and I put a cold air intake and bigger jets in the carbs and it will do 90 indicated probably 85 in reality and you may say that's slow but keep In mind it's only a 380
All of this tips are legit, but how much would this cost?? Like, seriously.
some cost nothing, some cost something, all cost a lot, pick and choose to meet your budget. All in all a person with an older sled can mod it to perform as close as or sometimes better than a newer sled for less money - that's what I like to show. Thanks for watching!
you dont know what trying to get a snowmobile unstuck until you tried getting an older snowmobile out solo
Ever tried getting a ski doo formula 380 unstuck from 1.2 meters of powder?
that noise at the end of the video!
;-)
Light light light ...SNAP SNAP SNAP!!
Nope. Everything lightweight ive used is stronger than stock. I havent broken anything because ive mader it lighter.
Ticky boo in the motor. I lost 20 pounds by basically just not eating now I go faster

merc marc No, it would be really slow. A polaris 550 fan puts out 60 hp, a cr 500 too. A 600cc liquid cooled snowmobile has about 120 hp, twice that of a cr 500
Remove the handguards thats like 3 lbs right there for free
