    1952 russia sks i own now. Very reliable and drops moose, elk, deer in 1 shot. I put a rubber 1 inch recoil pad and the length of pull is better. Iron sights and stripper clips.

    The AK is not a derivative of the SKS. They were designed during the same time period to different specifications. The SKS has a short stroke gas system and a tilting bolt. The AK is a long stroke system and has a rotating bolt. No design won the 1945 trials for a new automatic rifle. Three designs were sent back with suggested revisions, only Kalashnikov made them, and his design was accepted in 1947.

    These are awesome rifles. I have a nice Russian made one built in 1950, and a Chinese made "paratrooper" model. They are a TON of fun to shoot and load.

    I bought my 1951 Tula SKS for $99 about 15 years ago.... been using it for Hunting Deer ever since at 50-75 yds open sights. It works just fine !
    But just say'in..... since we cancelled the Griz Hunt up here in Canada ? shooting a Deer now is like ringing a dinner Bell for Griz ? so a guys gotta hustle up gutting and getting your harvest outa there .... and nice to have the SKS Semi-Auto as backup so I ain't dinner for Griz ?

    I own one. It was made in 1953 in Tula. Nice. Bought it back in 1984 at a gun show at the state fairgrounds in Sacramento , California. I paid $100.00 with extra goodies. I was station at McClellan AFB at the time.

    Look at what I'm holding in May of 1968 in the Republic of Vietnam. Our government did not dare bomb the North Vietnam (NVA) harbor. All our USA missions were sent to the United Nations military attache office. The NVA knew we were coming before we knew it. Eaglegards...

    @5:37 what is he referring to when he says wire stocks?

    • @MrSamalama25
      @MrSamalama25 3 года назад +1

      Look at wire stocks on like AKs. Not as comfortable compared to wood or polymer stocks.

    What’s the best way to tell I have the Russian version of the SKS?

    • @mailmannb7970
      @mailmannb7970 3 года назад

      The Russian SKSs have a Star and Date on the dust cover I believe. But for the last year of production. I don't think many of those have a date.

      What kinds of markings are on it? Does it have a blade or spike bayonet? Does it have a bare muzzle or a grenade launder?
