この曲は、タッチが強いと音ががちゃがちゃ混ざり合って、聞き手が聞きづらく響いてしまうため、非常に厳しい曲であるが、ほかの奏者と同じ曲を弾いてるのかと思わせるぐらい柔らかいタッチで、全ての音がとても聞きやすく心地よい。本当に上手い。
This polonaise is so personal... Almost impossible to judge which interpretation is the best.

He is the best artist in chopin competition 2015. My favorite pianist us Kate Liu, but all of Charles performance in this competition were the best pieces.

I like it from start to finish .... meditative intro, the actual polonaise ushered in gracefully without too much pathos; suspenses are not overdramatic. denouement spares the strings and the audience's ears.
That is such a mesmerizing piece filled with cashed suitabilities... I enjoyed your interpretation and commend you on your touch. Very well performed indeed!
Have been searching for a perfect modern recording for such a long time. Richter, Pollini, and Kissin are all very good. Rubinstein is as always a classic, but hard old sound is dated. Barenboim's version is probably the most poetic and imaginative of all until this version emerged.
This pianist has captured the mercurialism of individual moments, turns of phrase, and also gets the big moments right (not clipped off short).
Those important treble trills ring for long enough in the middle - the longer, the better! ; the three massive hammered bass notes in the coda are allowed to ring and provide final structure to the whole piece, not cut dry (Richter, Pollini); the timing of each sentence feels correct and lived-in, as if part of the soul.
Here, there is a deep and correct understanding of every moment, but also the biggest challenge is met... understanding the piece and where it goes, going with the piece and realising coherence.
The Yamaha piano mellows each note a little, important when the feelings take over and the textures become awkward to balance correctly (the latter half of the piece is not written as fully and well as, say, Rachmaninov, in the climaxes - possibly because there is too much of Chopin's passion to write down).
And the recording environment allows the sound to take flight and echo... which is extremely important with the experimental nature of this piece, where harmonies blur deliberatley and gorgeously into each other, notes hang in space or merge into their surroundings, resolutions are not resolved (until the coda).
So this is a superb achievement in a competition and live environment, congratulations due to Mr R-H. I will now be seeking out and buying this recording as my 1st choice for the wonderful, under-appreciated late Polonaise-Fantasie, probably Chopin's most experimental work.
Why do pianists like Hough, Andsnes, M-A. Hamelin not record their versions of this singular masterpiece? We need more, actually as many as possible!
I think it's impossible to decide which recording is the best, due to considerable profoundness of this piece...

He was far above the rest of the competition. And yet he didn't get first place.

Cho is amazing as well. However, I do agree Charles Richard-Hamelin deserved first. This, his b-minor sonata, and the 3rd ballade were phenomenal. All of his performances were wonderful really. There's something so charming about his playing. And his technique..beautiful.
Cho had by quite some margin the finest technique among the competitors, but one can see the gears working when he is playing in terms of interpretation. However I find Hamelin's and Liu's musicianship much more natural and less 'rehearsed'.
