- We found this car on a ranch here outside Tucson, was last tagged in the mid 70s..
and hadnt moved since. So after 40+ yrs we brought it home, cleaned it up, and after a
few hours of work, got it running AND drove it around the block.
I had a 1966 Tempest 2 door post car with a 326 four barrel, four speed Muncie transmission and posi rear that was very clean but ended up having a rusted rear frame that could no longer be driven. Not sure why the frame rusted out, but it looked like Swiss cheese. I was just out of high school with no cash, but I found a clean 1967 Tempest Wagon, two tone blue and white with a roof rack, a 6 cylinder OVH Cam and three on the tree manual trans without power steering on a used car lot with a very poor running motor. Bought it for $150 in 1977 and transferred the motor, transmission and posi rear from the 1966 Tempest into the 1967 wagon. It ran great. Ended up selling it to a friend of mine a few years later who crashed the car. I really miss that car, lots of good memories and a great looking car!

Thanks so much for posting this video. I build scale model cars and I am currently working on a 1/25th version of a 1967 Tempest Wagon. Based on two kits ,I have spliced the front end of a 1966 GTO with a1966 Malibu Wagon from the cowl back ( Rear wheel openings modified to match the Pontiac .) The OHC 6 will be coming from a 1969 Firebird . I will be replacing the grill with a photo-etch piece to correct it to a Lemans / Tempest. I will have to fabricate my tail lights . This going tobe a fun project ! Take care ,Billy .
It''s a rare car, body style is nice, if put back into road worthy condition it would be great. The straight six OHC is very rare.
I had a 65 temptest wagon with a 326 14.9 in the quarter two barrel no lack of traction crazy cool car you got there brings back memories
That’s one of the most beautiful wagons I’ve ever seen
Family had two of those, Dad traded his nearly new 67 326 4 speed LeMans for one plus two hundred bucks Dark blue with wood grain and we had another that was silver without wood grain, both had teal vinyl interior and both were 326 auto.
Wow that's pretty cool hard to find a mid 60s GM midsize wagon I know we used to tear them apart for the engines Parts whatever whatever many of them wish I had one now so many of them had that 2 speed automatic but you never see anymore mom and dad had a 68 Chevelle was a 6 cylinder with a Powerglide Nomad wagon had it for about 10 years
Oh man, diamond in the rough. Leave as is - with a little 'tuning'. 👌
Assuming it'll bolt up, a 1980s GM 700R4 tranny with the correct bell would be a worthwhile upgrade to the 'Tempest Torque' 2 spd slush box living there.
I recently checked online for Pontiac OHC 6 performance parts. Comp Cams doesn't have a listing for a cam or lifters, but I imagine they could custom grind a HiPo hydraulic roller for it. Even Ames Pontiac parts was severely limited in their selection. I'd tear down and rebuild the engine, transmission, and differential. Obviously new brakes all around including front discs. The floorboard will have to be addressed, but from the video, it doesn't look all that bad...but that's not with a hands-on inspection. I might be tempted to leave the patina, but I'm not really a patina type of hot rodder. I've already done the 427-435 thing several times over and the LS conversion thing. Because it's so rare and probably has tons of potential, I think I'd leave the OHC 6 in it and cruise a little more economically. Maybe a VintageAir setup... How much are you asking? I'm in South Carolina, so getting it here is a consideration. Thank you in advance.
Crane Cams does offer regrind profiles using the 4bbl cam core (they want you to cut down the cam tower to compensate).
I remember a same year Tempest or possibly a Le Mans SW while still living in the Wash DC area over 40 years ago; 326 V8, probably a 2 barrel, factory AC, PS and a 3 on the tree manual tranny.
Sweet ol ride 👍
Don’t make them like that no more, be great to make it road worthy again
GTO-Tribute, do-it-do-it-do-it!
OH, SWAP IN A SPRINT 4bbl OHC 6 IN there, 4:10 gearing, 200r4 tyranny. THIS COULD Be a fun party wagon.
OHC six w / air cooled powerglide.
Had 65 Lemans 326 cid brings memories
Had 67 tempest, 6, oh, rubber timing belt. Original Pontiac engine. Ran good and strong.
This would be a great restomod project!!
Make it into a 67 GTO Station Wagon
Love it
I want the car. I’ve been looking for one on and off for a while. Just stumbled across the video and I’m up in Flagstaff. Any contact information?
