My preferred solution is to use a separate access point. You can have multiple APs if you wish. These are wired to your network and many support Power over Ethernet.
This video has wrong information, repeaters and extenders are pretty much the same thing, however in the video he covers two types of it. One that connects to your router via WiFi and extends it's signal, this kind is affected by thick walls and distance, if that's the case you'll need one with more than two antennas, however all you need to do is find your WiFi's dead zone and plug this device near it, signal may be slow or unreliable. And the other one covered in the video connects to your router via Ethernet, this is the most reliable of them all but the downside is that you have to run an Ethernet cable from your router to the power outlet in where you are connecting your Ethernet extender, however you don't have to worry about it's signal quality, distance, nor thick walls, nor unreliability, it's like having a physical router there.
Agree. for me, boosters, repeaters and extenders are all the same thing. they all amplify the received signals (either via wi fi or ethernet cable) and extend coverage areas. they do not change the name because of how they receive the original signals from the router.
Extender is better because with a repeater the WiFi speed is halfed, also with a repeater you are more prone to interference issues as the distance you cover by WiFi is larger, while with an extended you rely on a cable for some of it, which is more stable. A more common name for extender is "accesspoint", the difference is that it doesn't hang in the powersocket and the product-quality is generally much better. Also, there is some misinformation in the video, as you can perfectly fine use the same SSID (wifiname) with an extender/accesspoint as well.
Wifi repeater : repeats wifi signal by connecting to wifi and amplyfies the signal wifi wifi extender does the same thing exept it goes into router and shares network
What the author is saying extender is actually an access point. An extender is an wifi device - robbing Peter to pay Paul - original router to other wifi devices

I have a question . I have a RV in my back yard and my wifi in my house does reach to my smart tv in the RV . However i do get some buffering . When i do a scan with my tv it says the signal is fair. My RV is 100 feet from the router inside my home . It is about 80 feet from a 110 outlet on my back porch. My qustion is this ; if i were to plug a repeater into the outlet on my back porch would it solve my buffering problems in the RV ? Also the only device i will have connected in the rv is a smart tv for streaming . You sound like you are knowlegable about this kind of thing. Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated. 🙂
Extenders DO NOT amplify as WiFi signals. I bought a TP RE700X range extender configured it and and accessed it with my laptop, I got 50% of the signal strength that the main router was broadcasting. I then set up the lap top and the extender side by side and accessed the main router, I got 450mbps on my laptop. From exactly the same location I accessed the extender from my laptop. I got about 200. I am returning the extender
Yes, you need to run the ethernet cable all the way from main router to your wifi extender on the 2nd floor. Your wifi extender will then receive full speed internet and broadcast it on the 2nd floor just like if you moved the main router to 2nd floor because ethernet cable delivers full speed
@@watalayph950 Either AP Mode or Wired Repeater Mode (if the router supports it). AP Mode will create a new Wifi Network with new name/password. Wired Repeater Mode will keep main router wifi name.

@@discy12345 Go for extender ..
@@discy12345 Well said.

Wifi repeater : repeats wifi signal by connecting to wifi and amplyfies the signal wifi wifi extender does the same thing exept it goes into router and shares network

I purchased a WiFi Netgear extender that required Nighthawk app. What the store failed to mention is it requires a costly subscription . No Thanks
Both are same right
You did not answer your own question you said which is better for the home you still didn’t answer that
wifi repeater: use the same wifi(4g) connection but expanded(4g)
wifi extender: expand your wifi(4g) with different wifi(ex.5g) or signal (ex.5g)
The dude literally showed a picture of a wifi repeater as he was talking about an extender. Lol. 1:22 mark. 😂

Better use a WiFi mesh router than these two. Very easy to set up nowadays with one button mesh sync. It’s also inexpensive.
Repeater and Extender are the same device, you are mistaking it with Access Point.
if i want to get wifi to a mobile home (on som proporty) would i need a wifi extender or repeater?
Too complicate. Get Mesh wifi. With more less the same price but simpler setting, simpler instalation and better wifi reception.
